    Jen Miner has struggled with a range of health conditions: depression, insomnia, PCOS, fibroids, IBS, GERD, and carcinoid tumors in her colon, to name just a few. Her doctors' solutions? Medication and invasive treatments. They tried antidepressants (two varieties), Xanax to help with anxiety, Klonopin to help with sleep, Imitrex and Vicodin for migraines, and regular colonoscopies — all layered on top of each other. Eventually, after being told to undergo hormone replacement therapy to treat uterine fibroids, Jen decided enough was enough. She refused the therapy, and instead started focusing on the foundations of her health from a holistic perspective. What happened next? Things actually started to get better, and eventually she found herself medication-free. "To say that my quality of life dramatically changed, this was an understatement," Jen says in the premiere episode of Thrive With Us. Jen likens the process to finding pollutants or toxins in a stream. "Would you just build a water filtration plant or your property line, or would you want to walk upstream and figure out what's actually happening there?" Jen asks. "Then you'd want to know, well, how do I fix that? What do I do about it? Which would be the most cost-effective building the water filtration plant or figuring out what's causing the problem." The most important step involves discovering the root of your health problems. Then you can tackle that cause. In this episode of the podcast, Jen talks us through four different body types and their relationship to health problems: adrenal, ovarian, thyroid, and liver. Various symptoms — such as fatigue, nausea, and hair loss — can all relate to hormone imbalances based on these body types. She also discusses how to make a real holistic lifestyle change, which involves being proactive, auditing your own belief systems, and committing 100% to the process of improving your health. "We want that permanent change ... not just a short-term investment," Jen says.
