Tré Seals founded Vocal Type in 2016 in order to address how the lack of diversity of race, ethnicity, and gender in type has led to a lack of diversity in thought systems, ideas, and creations. Each typeface Vocal Type produces highlights a piece of history, from the Women's Suffrage Movement in Argentina to the Civil Rights Movement in America. Through Vocal Type, Tré seeks to introduce diverse perspectives from design communities that still have a small voice in the design industry. JamraPatel is a studio creating innovative typeface systems for use in under-served communities around the world. Run by Mark Jamra and Neil Patel, JamraPatel uses research and historical knowledge to create useful designs that are respectful of the needs and cultures of specific language communities. Ben Kiel and Jesse Ragan launched their digital type foundry XYZ Type in 2017 to craft typefaces and lettering for major brands, cultural institutions, and publications. XYZ Type draws original typefaces and logotypes from scratch, and often make their custom client commissions available for retail sale.
