A member of the Nazi Party, he is best known as the commandant of two German concentration camps of the SS Death's Head unit. In April 1900, at the age of fifteen, he volunteered for the navy and fought in the First World War, serving aboard the SMS Moltke. In 1912 he married August Dibbern with whom he had two children, a boy and a girl. In 1930 he was discharged as a lieutenant and then worked first as an office clerk in Kiel and later as a sales representative in Hamburg.Baranowski joined the National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazi Party) in 1930. The following year he signed up for the SS (SS #24009). His first appointment was as the leader of the 4th SS Standarte in Hamburg-Altona. In March 1936 Himmler appointed him commandant of the Lichtenburg concentration camp. However, he was soon removed, demoted and sent as a Lagerführer (compound leader) at Dachau concentration camp.However, in 1938 he was promoted to Schutzhaftlagerführer at Dachau concentration camp. He served as the commandant (SS-Oberführer) of Sachsenhausen concentration camp from May 1938 until September 1939. He died at Aue in 1940.He was noted to be especially sadistic. However, Rudolf Höss, commandant at Auschwitz, described Baranowski as: very strict and hard, but of a scrupulous sense of fair play and fanatical sense of duty. As a very old SS leader and National Socialist he became my role model. I constantly saw in him a grander reflection of myself. He also had movements where his good nature, his soft heart revealed themselves, and yet he was hard and uncompromisingly strict in all matters of duty. Traditionally, corticosteroid injections have been the mainstay treatment. However, concerns over side effects like tendon rupture, cartilage damage, and systemic hyperglycemia have prompted exploration of alternatives. A recent narrative review by Kiel et al. (2024) highlights ketorolac—a parenteral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)—as a promising substitute for corticosteroids in musculoskeletal injections. Subacromial Ketorolac Injections for Shoulder Pain Subacromial bursitis and impingement syndrome are common causes of shoulder pain and disability. Several randomized controlled trials have shown that subacromial ketorolac injections provide pain relief and functional improvement comparable to corticosteroids: Goyal et al. demonstrated significant reductions in pain scores after subacromial injection of 60 mg ketorolac versus 40 mg methylprednisolone, with no difference in outcomes between groups. Taheri et al. found similar short-term pain relief at 1 and 3 months with either ketorolac or corticosteroid subacromial injections. Kim et al. reported equivalent clinical improvement in rotator cuff syndrome patients receiving ketorolac or triamcinolone injections. Min et al. noted ketorolac led to better forward flexion and patient satisfaction at 4 weeks compared to corticosteroids. These studies support ketorolac as an effective agent for subacromial injection, offering an alternative for patients where corticosteroid use is limited. Intra-articular Ketorolac Injections for Adhesive Capsulitis and Osteoarthritis Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) and osteoarthritis of the hip, knee, and carpometacarpal joint are often treated with intra-articular corticosteroids. År 1721 grundade den danske prästen Hans Egede en ny bosättning.Nordens nationer fick sin nuvarande utformning under Napoleonkrigen i början av 1800-talet. Under 1900-talet utvecklades flera modeller för självstyre i Norden, grundade på historiska, geografiska och kulturella särdrag. Världens största ö blev en integrerad del av Danmark 1953 och fick självstyre först 1979.I detta avsnitt av podden Historia Nu samtalar programledaren Urban Lindstedt med Jan Sundberg, professor emeritus i allmän statslära vid Helsingfors universitet, om Grönlands historia, dess koloniala arv och den långsamma men betydelsefulla vägen mot självstyre. In dieser Episode sprechen wir mit Katrin Birr, der geschäftsführenden Gesellschafterin der Gebrüder Friedrich GmbH & Co. KG, einer Werft in Kiel. Katrin ist die vierte Generation in ihrer Familie, die in diesem Betrieb arbeitet, der sich seit seiner Gründung durch ihren Urgroßvater kontinuierlich weiterentwickelt hat. In der Folge erfahren wir von der aktuellen Lage der Werft, die sich besonders mit der Umrüstung und Wartung von öffentlichen Einsatzschiffen befasst. Durch den wachsenden Druck zur CO2-Neutralität in der Schifffahrt stehen hierbei viele Herausforderungen im Raum. Wir diskutieren die Trends in der Schifffahrt, insbesondere welche Herausforderungen und Chancen sich aus der Notwendigkeit ergeben, die Schiffe nachhaltiger zu gestalten. Katrin betont die Bedeutung der Regulierungen auf europäischer Ebene, die besagen, dass alles, was die Gewässer befahren kann, bis 2045 klimaneutral sein muss. Dies betrifft insbesondere die Wartungsintervalle und die Instandhaltungsstrategien, die herkömmlichen Hochseeschiffen Anwendung finden.
