    What about the aftermath

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 14, 2021 57:06

This week we are back to talk about the aftermath of coming out. If you listened last time, you know we come from a very religious background, so this wasn't easy. Erika and Kaeli both share about this past week- the week after coming out. They share about their expectations before coming out, the reality that hit this past week and their thoughts on it all. We want to thank everyone who messaged us with your positive and affirming messages. You definitely made this week so much better than it might have been. You made a difference. Stay with us as over the next few weeks we dive farther into the responses that we got and our thoughts, LGBTQ2IA+ and religion and the parent side of things, and we will probably think of more along the way. Again- we will NOT tolerate any hate or harmful speech here on any of our socials, including private messages. This is a safe space for the LGBTQ2IA+ community. This is a space to celebrate, affirm and show some true love! ❤️

This episode is also in celebration of Pride Month, and we will be doing a series the whole month of June on what it like to be LGBTQ+ and very religious. Please Note: We will NOT tolerate any hate or harmful speech on any of our socials and this includes “hate the sin, love the sinner”. What about, Difficult Women?

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 12, 2021 58:25

In this episode we introduce our 3 part series for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. We start the series by talking about as women, we are set up for a zero sum game. If you dress up, wear make-up, even wear a skirt, you are trying to get attention and trying too hard, yet if you wear sweats, a hat and no make-up, you aren't taking care of yourself. If you wear a short skirt or a low cut shirt, you are a slut, but if you wear sweats and sweatshirt then you are a slob. If a guy makes a mistake, it's laughed off, however, if a woman makes a mistake, she's dumb. When a guy gets in a car accident, it's chalked up to learning or laughed off, however, if a woman gets in an accident, “all women” are bad drivers. The problem with this “game”, is that everyone loses. We talk about these paradoxes and more. In the end we ask that everyone goes away thinking about how we each show up and how we would like to show up. We each need to accept, and do our own work, asking the question, how is this serving me? Thank you for listening. What about sin...

In this episode we talk about sin. Rachelle is a pastor's kid from evangelical Christian background, and Erika, Kaeli, and Gillian were brought up in evangelical Christian churches as well. We have a conversation about the paradoxes of sin and teachings about it in the church. One example is how “we are born sinners”, yet “we are created in God's image”. Hmmm.... Another example is that, “God will never leave you nor forsake you”, yet “we can create a divide with God through our sin”. Interesting.... We talk about these and more. And... what could it look like if we could actually be encouraged to have a personal relationship with God? In this episode we chat about endometriosis- wait, what is that? Listen in to hear about living with endometriosis; an invisible illness and how you can help- it's probably not what you think. Globally, there is an estimated 1 in 10 women who live with endometriosis. This number is most likely much higher because the diagnosis is so difficult. It takes an average about 7 years to be diagnosed. For Rachelle, it was over 30. There is no cure. Of the 5 girls in our family, 3 are already diagnosed. The symptoms of Endometriosis include painful periods, painful ovulation, pain during or after sexual intercourse, heavy bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, fatigue, and infertility, and can impact on general physical, mental, and social well being. In this episode, Rachelle and Erika talk about the parent's side of living with a child with a rare disease and illnesses. If you missed it, you will want to go back and listen to episode 5 where Erika opens up and shares a small piece of her story. Rachelle has lived with invisible illnesses her whole life and now helps her kids to navigate life with them. She shares some of the ups and downs of life with 5 kids and kids with challenges. Some of the struggles can hit hard, especially when dealing with specialists, family and friends. Rachelle also chats about some things they would change and how she would do things very differently now. Erika also shares her perspective and they have a conversation about navigating those challenges as a child and now as an adult. One of the most important things they want you to know is to trust your gut. You are the parent and you know your child the best. You will have to make some hard choices and ultimately, do what is best for you, your child and your family. Each situation is so different and that is ok. Celebrating Women for International Women's Day

We love celebrating women and all we do. Today we celebrate International Women's Day as we talk about things that we as women do all the time and most of time without even thinking. Have you ever not gone for a walk alone at night because it wouldn't be safe for you as a woman? Have you ever been followed, stared at and was totally scared, then told that either, he must like you, or you just made that up? Have you ever gone for a walk or run during the day and were constantly checking behind you or what about crossing the street when coming up to someone? Or how about not helping someone out who may need it, out of fear? Us too. We want to celebrate all we do and encourage us to continue looking out for each other. We also want to put out a call to men to be aware of these things we talk about and then choose to be apart of a solution. The theme of International Women's Day is #ChooseToChallenge and that is what we want to do with our podcast today. We have a special episode today where Erika tells some of her story, living with the rare disease, Uveitis, and invisible illnesses. Erika was diagnosed when she was 8 and is now 21, so has been dealing with this for almost 13 years. She talks vulnerably about growing up an illness no one could see, how it was dealing with people who couldn't understand and some that wouldn't, and shares how it had affected her. Her purpose for doing this is two fold, one, to let others like her they aren't alone and two, to let those who cannot understand, know that you don't have to, just be there for them. We hope that you find whatever you need for you in this episode. Also stay tuned, because in a couple weeks, Rachelle will be sharing from the parent side.
