For Endometriosis Awareness Month, the IPA On.. Talent Matters Podcast discusses this condition. Host Antonia Stearn is joined by Rebecca Hill, Associate at Over The Bloody Moon, the world's largest collective of menopause, andropause and menstrual health experts, and Emmy Greener, People and Culture Manager at Mediaplus UK. Despite endometriosis affecting 1 in 10 women, awareness surrounding it is still very poor. The condition causes cells similar to the lining of the womb to grow elsewhere in the body, with varying symptoms like debilitating pain, fatigue, low mood, heavy periods and pain when you go to the toilet amongst others. Antonia, Rebecca and Emmy explore the perception of pain, medical misogyny, the lack of research into women's health issues, and the worrying stat that diagnosis time for endometriosis is still 8 years and 10 months on average. This debilitating condition can have severe impacts on the retention of staff and wellbeing. Emmy also discusses her company's menstrual health policies, which aim to create a more equitable workplace while Rebecca shares her personal journey with endometriosis.

Endometriosis Awareness takes place across the globe during the month of March with a mission to raise awareness of a condition that affects an estimated 200 million people, about 1 in 10 women, worldwide. Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition where tissue, similar to the endometrial tissue that lines of the uterus, grows outside of the uterus.Addressing endometriosis early on is important for minimizing symptoms and potential complications, including fertility challenges. In some cases, endometriosis contributes to full-fledged infertility, or the inability to conceive within a year of trying (or six months, if the couple is over forty years of age).Endometriosis doesn't directly or automatically cause infertility, but it can make it harder for you to conceive. If endometriotic tissue forms on your ovaries or fallopian tubes, it can keep eggs from reaching the uterus, interfering with conception. Endometriosis can also affect fertility by triggering inflammation that may harm sperm or eggs, keeping them from moving freely. Close to an estimated 40% of women with infertility also have endometriosis.Keep in mind that fertility issues affect all sexes. About 1/3  of fertility issues stem from male factor conditions, 1/3 from female factor issues, and 1/3 from both. For this reason, it's important to consider the health needs of both partners, if you're experiencing fertility challenges. The pain of endometriosis can be devastatingly debilitating and it is the leading cause of fertility challenges in women as it carries a huge personal and societal burden.  This week, we continue the conversation about "endo" and surgical intervention FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A PERSON LIVING WITH AN ENDOMETRIOSIS DIAGNOSIS.About our guest:Tiffany Davis Nazaire, MSN, RN-BC is from Birmingham, AL and has lived in Baltimore, MD for thirteen years.  She holds a Bachelors degree in Nursing from Auburn University (War Eagle!), a Masters degree in Nursing Informatics, and holds three additional board certifications. By educating ourselves on the warning signs, we can begin to fight for a definitive diagnosis. Today's guest has an endo story that, unfortunately, many can relate to. Endometriosis Awareness takes place across the globe during the month of March with a mission to raise awareness of a condition that affects an estimated 200 million people, about 1 in 10 women, worldwide. Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition where tissue, similar to the endometrial tissue that lines of the uterus, grows outside of the uterus.Laparoscopic surgery is the only definitive way to determine whether or not endometriosis is present in a person's body. A doctor might recommend surgery if a person has severe pain that medication does not relieve. With surgery, a skilled surgeon, specializing in endometriosis, can not only find the endometriotic tissue, but also take out all or some of the affected tissue; however this is not a cure because, eventually, endometriosis and pain will return.Doctors typically recommend trying conservative treatment approaches first, opting for surgery only if initial treatments fail. In any case, there are some things to take into consideration, including whether one wants to get pregnant later. You might not be able to have children after certain surgical endometriosis interventions. The chosen approach depends on how severe one's signs and symptoms are and whether one eventually hopes to conceive. Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition where tissue, similar to the endometrial tissue that lines of the uterus, grows outside of the uterus. On average, endometriosis can take anywhere from 4–11 years before diagnosis occurs. Compared with white women, Black women are less likely to be diagnosed with endometriosis. Between misdiagnoses, assumptions that we're  hypochondriacs/drama queens/drug seekers, and additional erroneous assumptions that can go as far as suggesting that symptoms must be from an untreated sexually transmitted infection (or a 'botched abortion gone wrong')— often times, medical professionals don't demonstrate real interest in determining what was causes the symptoms of someone living with an endometriosis diagnosis. Some providers STILL  hold on to antiquated views about endometriosis mainly affecting people of European descent and racist tropes that Black people don't experience pain the same way white people do. We MUST check our providers' racial, gender, and cultural biases to ensure health access and equity for ALL PEOPLE. Equally crucial? Follow through. Hold physicians accountable by reporting their prejudices and racism as it can very well cost someone her life. The pain of endometriosis can be devastatingly debilitating and it is the leading cause of fertility challenges in women as it carries a huge personal and societal burden.  This week, we continue the conversation about "endo" and pain perception FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A PERSON LIVING WITH AN ENDOMETRIOSIS DIAGNOSIS.About our guest:Tiffany Davis Nazaire, MSN, RN-BC is from Birmingham, AL and has lived in Baltimore, MD for thirteen years.  She holds a Bachelors degree in Nursing from Auburn University (War Eagle!), a Masters degree in Nursing Informatics, and holds three additional board certifications. Endometriosis Awareness takes place across the globe during the month of March with a mission to raise awareness of a condition that affects an estimated 200 million people, about 1 in 10 women, worldwide. Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition where tissue, similar to the endometrial tissue that lines of the uterus, grows outside of the uterus. How does one navigate talking to family, friends, and loved ones about an endometriosis diagnosis? Endo can often create challenges that are quite often misunderstood by those closest to the affected person. Isolation can ensue especially when one doesn't have the necessary support system. The dynamics of having an endometriosis diagnosis can also affect relationships including casual sexual partners AND spouses. Living with an endometriosis diagnosis can create challenges for couples that often lead to disastrous misunderstandings. And lastly, work. How do you navigate work relationships and responsibilities during a flare? Do you take vacation? Short-term disability? Should you tell your co-workers and supervisor that you have endometriosis and explain to them what that potentially means each month? When you require a physician's note for that emergency room visit or recent hospitalization, how do you explain the chronic nature of the condition? The pain of endometriosis can be devastatingly debilitating and it is the leading cause of fertility challenges in women as it carries a huge personal and societal burden.  This week, we continue the conversation about "endo" and relationships all FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A PERSON LIVING WITH AN ENDOMETRIOSIS DIAGNOSIS.About our guest:Tiffany Davis Nazaire, MSN, RN-BC is from Birmingham, AL and has lived in Baltimore, MD for thirteen years.  She holds a Bachelors degree in Nursing from Auburn University (War Eagle!), a Masters degree in Nursing Informatics, and holds three additional board certifications. After an emotionally painful 3.5 years of trying to get pregnant, Daniella and her husband were finally blessed with a beautiful baby boy. However, the road to get there was not an easy one. For years, Daniella learned the true meaning behind the saying, “comparison is the thief of joy” as she watched those around her get pregnant while also posting their pregnancy announcements and pictures of their growing families on social media. “What's wrong with me? Why isn't my body doing what it's supposed to do?” were questions Daniella ruminated over for years. Then one day, Daniella receives a phone call she never thought she'd get. “Infertile, stage 4, endometriosis” was all she heard. In this episode, Daniella gets vulnerable and shares everything about her pregnancy journey from infertility, to loss, to IVF, to finally having a successful pregnancy. Daniella and her husband are a loving, supportive, and communicative team that never lost hope and continued going after the life they so desperately wanted. Close to an estimated 40% of women with infertility also have endometriosis. Keep in mind that fertility issues affect all sexes. WINE!Endometriosis Awareness takes place across the globe during the month of March with a mission to raise awareness of a condition that affects an estimated 200 million people, about 1 in 10 women, worldwide. WINE!Endometriosis Awareness takes place across the globe during the month of March with a mission to raise awareness of a condition that affects an estimated 200 million people, about 1 in 10 women, worldwide. Hello Endosisters~ On Today's episode of The Thought Spot I answer some of your questions on my latest Endometriosis Awareness video I posted on my TikTok. Since Endometriosis continues to be understudied both in the general public and within the medical profession, it's so important for Endometriosis Survivors to open up about their journey with this chronic illness to help other women and girls out there who may feel lost & left in the dark, feel less alone with more of a sense of direction + clarity. I know that being able to listen to other women speak about their endometriosis symptoms and how they pursued treatment has not only provided me with a sense of direction with what to do, how to speak about my symptoms, and who to seek help from--but it also provided me with an essential component to the mental & emotional processing of this chronic illness. Cause we all know it is very intense to live with Endometriosis! I hope to continue to share my journey and provide any answers to any women out there who may be lost. Be curious, be discerning, and don't give up! Peace & love, Irene ·Connect with me·

Ahh Endometriosis, is something we heara about so much, yet it's super hard to diagnose. Gabriella battled with painful symptoms since her early 20's - sharp pain from her lower back down to her heels, sometimes so bad she would be lying on the waiting room floor begging for pain relief. After eight years of moving from doctor to doctor, she was diagnosed with endometriosis, which is something that is still soooooo hard (and expensive) to manage. After surgery, they found endo inside her left ovary, bowel, left abdomen, lower pelvic region, and all around the sciatic nerve. And some said it was all in her heard (urgh). Endometriosis affects one in 9 women and those who identify as gender diverse. It's a condition where tissue similar to what lines the uterus, grows in other areas of the body, especially the pelvis. These cells grow and form lesions or patches that bleed and leak fluid in response to your hormones when you're on your period, which leads to inflammation and scarring. If you think you have endo, book an appointment with a health care specialist before self-diagnosing.For some informative links on Endometriosis:https://www.endometriosisaustralia.org/about-endohttps://www.jeanhailes.org.au/health-a-z/endometriosis/symptoms-causes

Some of the things to think about include:Where are you in your life right now? Are you living your purpose? Are you walking in your truth? What do you stand for? What are your morals and values? Your intention should make you want to jump out of bed with excitement. It should make you feel... How do you set an intention?Frame it in a present and positive tense. Avoid using negative words when setting an intention. Avoid phrases and words such as I should, I want, I need, or I hope.Focus on the things you want instead of focusing on the things that you do not want.Set a time limit on the intention that you are setting.Revisit the intention and check in with yourself.Alter your intentions to reflect where you are on your journey.  How is setting an intention more beneficial than setting a goal? If you aren't aware it is endometriosis awareness month. Mary Lou Ballweg, President and Executive Director of the Endometriosis Association and founder of Endometriosis Awareness Month in March discusses the endometriosis diagnosis journey, the mission behind the Alliance for Endometriosis. and the importance of encouraging open and productive conversations about endometriosis Mary Lou Ballweg is President and Executive Director of the Endometriosis Association, an organization she co-founded in 1980 after being bedridden with endometriosis and related illnesses. The non-profit organization provides support and information for families affected by endometriosis, educates the public and medical community about the disease, and promotes and conducts research. The Endometriosis Association was the first organization in the world to address the support and education needs of women with endometriosis (endo) and to carry out ongoing research. It maintains its international headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A. The Association has affiliates, members, Advisors, and funded scientific projects worldwide. Ms. Ballweg is credited with being the person most singly responsible for calling attention to endometriosis. Besides founding and leading the Association for 39 years, she has overseen publication of four books (Overcoming Endometriosis in its 10th printing; The Endometriosis Sourcebook, in its 7th printing; Endometriosis: The Complete Reference for Taking Charge of Your Health in its 5th printing and on Kindle; and the Spanish language version of The Endometriosis Sourcebook, entitled Endometriosis: El Libro de Consulta); production of three educational videotapes, an extensive body of literature on the disease (in fact, the first lay literature available), development and execution of two million-dollar-plus educational awareness campaigns, four public service announcement campaigns and numerous articles and chapters in journals, magazines, newsletters and medical textbooks. She is also editor of the Association's popular newsletter. She has coordinated the Association's international activities, including development of affiliates worldwide and literature in 31 languages. Together with Karen Lamb, Ph.D., she established the first research registry in the world on endo in 1980; the Association's updated registry is maintained at the NIH where Ballweg collaborates on studies and established a joint fellowship. Utilizing the research registries and her contact with thousands of women with endo, Ballweg led the field in understanding the importance of pain in endo; endo as an immune disease and its relationship to autoimmune diseases, as well as certain cancers; synergistic and holistic treatments, particularly immune-based treatments; and endo as an environmental disease (with potential for prevention). She has raised millions of dollars for the endo movement. In 1992 she discovered a major link in the cause of endometriosis (hormonally and immune-active chemicals, including dioxin), research that has now been replicated many times, prompted numerous additional research studies, and received attention in leading scientific journals. Building on this work, a dedicated research program was established at Dartmouth Medical School in 1994. In 1998Vanderbilt University School of Medicine entered into a long-term partnership with the Endometriosis Association and committed to creating a research facility dedicated to finding the cause, new treatments, and a cure for endometriosis.
