The Communication abilities in Children with Genetic Conditions study collected parent-reported data on communication ability from 113 families and direct speech and language data from 33 children. Data collection has now closed and research reports are in preparation for the three most successfully recruited conditions; KBG syndrome, SYNGAP1-related disorder, and differences in MED13L. While the study was initially open to a wider group of single-gene conditions, it was only possible to recruit full data sets and large enough samples to produce high quality research reports for these three conditions. While not all of the data collected from families will be included in the research publications, all of the data provided by families has been extremely valuable to the study. Where permission has been given, anonymised data will serve as valuable pilot data to support future funding applications for research on relevant gene conditions. We thank all families for their valued time and participation in the project. Further updates will share our research reports as they become available. With best wishes, Harriet and the Communication abilities in Children with Genetic Conditions study team.” PRESS JJ in MD https://www.linkedin.com/posts/curesyngap1_syngap1-curesyngap1-activity-7331703029949267969-7AeK/ Stories #34 with Jo Ashline https://curesyngap1.org/podcasts/syngap1-stories/ Warriors Santiago, Axel and Issac! https://curesyngap1.org/syngap-warriors/ Cafe SYNGAP1 with Dina from NY https://curesyngap1.org/podcasts/cafe-syngap1/dina/ NL45 https://mailchi.mp/curesyngap1.org/make-a-splash-for-syngap1-awareness-45 FUNDRAISING Sprint Blog is Epic https://curesyngap1.org/blog/sprint4syngap-raises-over-200k-for-syngap1-in-5th-annual-fundraiser/ MDBR just happened Four team members raised $15,795 so far. In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 15), hosts Payal Nanavati and Savanna Williams talk to Jen Mika about best practices that providers should keep in mind to combat elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. This podcast episode features the following speakers: Jen Mika is a counsel in Crowell's DC office and is considered a leading authority on Elder Law in the District of Columbia. Jen was the District of Columbia's first prosecutor solely focused on investigating and prosecuting financial exploitation of elders and vulnerable adults.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, is recognized on June 15th annually, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs uses this opportunity to highlight the challenges faced by older persons around us, and to renew our commitment to ensuring accessible health care, and support for their well-being. This day of recognition was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations, in 2006 and remains an important observance to remind us that we need to protect our older generations from abuse and neglect. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, supports the United Nations International Plan of Action that acknowledges the significance of elder abuse as a public health and human rights issue. By shining a spotlight on this form of abuse, we are encouraged as a nation to take action and support justice for older persons. As we make the commitment to take responsibility to prevent the abuse of older persons, we can lend a hand to those in need, be their voice when they need it, and take actions to protect them.

Listen to today's podcast... So today is Heat Awareness Day and it feels like the coldest spring that we have had in a while. Soon however, the sun will be shining down and we will spend days either playing or working outside in the heat. Heat exhaustion and dehydration due to heat are some of the leading weather-related killers in the United States and Canada. Extreme heat is defined as at least 2-3 days of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius. In extreme heat, evaporation is slowed, and the body must work extra hard to maintain a normal temperature. This can lead to death by overworking the human body. Remember that extreme heat can occur quickly and without warning and that older adults, children, and those who are ill are at greater risk from the impact extreme heat. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today's Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Heat Awareness Day: When we are under an EXTREME HEAT WARNING: Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Find air conditioning when possible. Know places in your community where you can go to get cool. Keep your home cool by covering the windows and using fans. Avoid strenuous activities. Watch for the signs of heat illness, such as HEAT CRAMPS, HEAT EXHAUSTION and HEAT STROKE The summer heat is welcomed after a long cold winter, but as the slogan goes, Be Aware and Stay Safe in the Heat. Send us a textThe 15th March 2025 marks International long covid awareness day, this year is also the five year milestone of the pandemic. For many it will also be reaching their personal 5th year of living with long covid. Kerry and I wanted to mark this milestone with a very organic chat about where we are now, what we would like people to know and understand. We reflect on our personal journey's, the millions of people (of all ages) whose lives have been affected and changed. The losses and the gains in the form of a large and supportive community, we discuss how in the darkness and uncertainty the ME community reached out to let us know we are not alone. We discuss lack of understanding, the continued challenges however we also wanted to celebrate the amazing professors, scientists, consultants, doctors, advocates, charities and support groups, and our families and friends that are by our sides. We discuss the impact chronic conditions have on those we love. We celebrate and thank everyone who stands in solidarity and while this is not an anniversary or something any of us wanted, it is an opportunity to shout louder, have our voices heard and make sure none of us feel alone. #solidarity #onedayatatime My Links:Long Covid clinic -Dr Binita Kane & Julie Taylor; Email: info@thelongcovidclinic.co.uk for more information Episode sponsor; Turnto - This is a brilliant app, a one stop shop to support anyone living with, caring for or supporting and additionally professionals working with people living with Long Covid and or MECFS - please mention The Long Covid podcast n the "how did you hear about us" section, thank you https://turnto.ai/download?utm_source=link&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=livinglongcovidpodcastLinktree:https://linktr.ee/joulestXhttps://twitter.com/julieTa58407536Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/livingwithlongcovid/Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/julie_livingwithlongcovidPlanners:https://amzn.eu/d/9v9MP4vReturn to work planner:https://amzn.eu/d/1QVK8zn Well being planner:https://amzn.eu/d/a1Safxc

Ep. 63 National Law Enforcement Suicide Awareness Day 9/26 – revisiting my interview from Sept. 2021 with Inspector Steve Hough co-creator of Blue H.E.L.P.To mark the four-year anniversary of my podcast I'm taking a look back and reposting a few episodes from the early days with content and issues that remain relevant today. This is about the tragedy of officer suicide, not just the loss of life, but how that loss of life is regarded. We are all keenly aware of the devastating frequency with which we see reports of yet another officer who has taken his or her own life. For many of you, these losses are not news reports – they are personal and painful. As I said when I aired this interview in 2021, I want to draw attention to this issue and the support that does exist to prevent suicide and do what small part I can to honor those we have lost. So, for National Law Enforcement Suicide Awareness Day on Sept. 26, I'm reposting this interview with Inspector Steve Hough who along with Karen Solomon and Dr. Jeffrey McGill founded Blue H.E.L.P., a non-profit organization committed to honoring the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers who have been lost to suicide and to supporting their families and loved ones. It is the only organization in the country that collects LE suicide data. Blue H.E.L.P. also works to de-stigmatize mental health and job stress issues and connects officers to wellness and treatment programs. Blue H.E.L.P. is the organization that in 2020 designated Sept. 26 as National Law Enforcement Suicide Awareness Day. At Blue H.E.L.P.'s website https://bluehelp.org/ you can find important information on services; stories of family members who have lost their LEO to suicide; the Honor Wall recognizing the service of those officers; and information on what you can do for National Law Enforcement Suicide Awareness Day.Blue Help is part of First Help which extends the same honor and services to all first responders and military veterans lost to suicide. This month, First Help unveiled Heroes Memorial Park in Rockwall, Texas which features the monument they are creating on which the names of all first responders and military veterans lost to suicide will be etched. Here is a link with more information:https://1sthelp.org/memorial-park/And one programming note, this originally aired as I said in 2021 when we were in the midst of the pandemic; Covid for that period was taking more lives than we were losing to suicide. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Ikpanwosa Ero live from Canada. Born in Nigeria, is classified as a black female with the condition of albinism. This genetic mutation results in melanin deficiency and phenotypical characteristics often associated with people classified as White - pale skin and hair. Ero is an attorney by training and the first United Nations Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism. Gus was literally front row to hear her speak earlier this year at the University of Washington. She detailed the importance of words and even shared an anecdote about her being accused of wielding “white privilege” because of her melanin deficiency. International Albinism Awareness Day was just last month, so we'll ask how she advocated on that day. We'll also inquire about her definition of Racism and if she's noted White people's fascination with albino tigers, albino porcupines, albino skunks and all the mutant critters of the world.
