Episode 154 : The Sara Show Part 2! Nick welcomes Sara back to the podcast due to Alex's extended hiatus. Sara kicks us off by talking about her trip to Chicago for a work conference. Lots of Zombie Dust and touristy stuff on down time made Sara explore the local beer distributors to bring home stuff. She told us the story of Spin, the ping pong place. Chewiee makes an entrance and can't stop sniffing the microphone. Sara brought home 18th Street, Hop Butcher, and Half Acre beers. They were all especially good. After the Chicago rundown, we talked about Eleventh Hour's anniversary on Saturday and raved about the BYS anniversary stouts. Nick gives an open invitation to anyone who wants to cohost the Weekly Re-Cap while we try to nail down a new permanent cohost. Nick tells the story of visiting Trace Brewing with Alex while Sara was out of town, to celebrate Pittsburgh Coffee Week! Sara tells of her love of Oktoberfest and the festbier, while we talk about the beer we're drinking. Nick struggles with the word and the aroma of the terpenes of Blockbuster Night Pt 1. Nick talks about his Tavour box for Barrel and Flow fest. Nick is excited about the reveal of the top podcast in Pittsburgh by Pgh City Paper (hint: We didn't win.) We pump up the DG anniversary which they share with Allegheny City Brewing. Then, we run down the Three Rivers Beer Week put on by none other than the Pittsburgh Brewers Guild. After we run down the #TRBW we talk about our early opinions on Midnight Mass. Sara wants KDrama friends and is very excited about Squid Game. We then talk about the comments of the week, thanks to @halloweenisforever Brian for suggesting some horror movies to watch. We go down the spooky rabbit hole and talk about a lot of pop culture TV. Nick saved some cans from Barrel and Flow and rates his favorite of the 5 in front of him. We wrap quickly with a shout to Fueled By Hops and our affiliate code (theweeklyrecap for 20% off!) This week, I sit down with Michael Cottle to talk all about bicycles and beer. Michael is a service tech at Dirty Harry's. He has been around bicycles his entire life. I thought it would be super interesting to hear about the COVID biking craze from someone who is seeing it first hand. We talk about where Michaels love of bikes started, growing up in the racing world, his trip from Florida to Pennsylvania, Dirty Harry's, and his love for beer. When he's not wrenching on your bike, you can find him brewing beer at Allegheny City Brewing. This episode was super cool because this is the first outside episode I have done. We road our bikes and met at the Point and sat and had a great conversation. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening. Al Grasso of Allegheny City Brewing joins the Drinking Partners and talks about the brewery’s early days. As they sip on a Fairwaters pilsner, Mr. Grasso speaks on the defining pillars of the brewery: great beer, great service, and a great atmosphere. From an explanation into the significance of their name to the importance of their water’s mineral content, Mr. Grasso gives a thorough and interesting telling of how Allegheny City Brewing operates. Next, the trio samples a newly released and unnamed stout featuring Nancy B’s cookies. Ed and Day offer some suggestions for names as Al talks about how difficult it is name beers. Up next is a plum-flavored sour, which leads to a conversation about . . . grocery stores. The closing minutes are loose and amusing with plenty to laugh about as Ed and Day give advice you might not have known you wanted. "It represents community, partnership, collaboration."  In Pittsburgh's northside district, Al Grasso and his partners are not only building a craft brewery and tap house, they are building a community in a neighborhood not far from where they grew up.   It is, in many ways, a classic Pittsburgh story.  Kids grow up, they leave, they return and they stay for the long haul.   The founders of Allegheny City Brewing are doing the hard work, making connections with and between patrons that will endure long term.   Before we go there, this is a quick reminder that if you want to get on my mailing list, for updates about future podcast episodes, essays, or live events, just text CREATOR to 66866, and you will start to receive updates via email.  Good storytelling doesn’t happen without your support.  Please take a moment, go to my patreon site: www.patreon/bryantuk and help support the podcast.
