The Tim Conway Jr Show Hour 1 (7.29) Everyone’s back from vacation, especially Tim Conway Jr., who just returned from his TravelStore Alaska cruise with 144 lucky fans who were apparently the coolest, best-behaved group he’s ever sailed with. Timmy was thrilled to land last night and hit his two favorite spots: Del Taco and Home Depot. Tim and four buddies missed out on an $800 million lottery win while he was at sea — the lucky ticket was sold at a Wawa in Bradenton, Florida. Summer travel is packing every plane seat full, though tech glitches and severe storms grounded flights across the country, including the entire American Airlines fleet. Crozier schools everyone on the difference between the Special Olympics and Paralympics. Timmy takes it as a compliment that his show keeps drivers awake, while Studio City sees a rise in break-ins by masked men, possibly linked to recent burglaries south of the 101. LAPD needs about 1,000 more officers, but the city isn’t exactly rushing to help. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of When She Serves, Krista Fox sits down with veteran missionary Leona Karni, whose more than four decades on the mission field have taken her from Israel to Thailand to Liberia and beyond. Leona shares her testimony from the beginning — a childhood altar call at age nine, a season of rebellion and drug use as a hitchhiking Buddhist in 1970s California, and the moment God spoke audibly into her apartment and set her on a path back to Him.Leona also opens up about the year she spent studying Hebrew Scripture with her Israeli husband to determine for herself whether Jesus was the Messiah, and the surprising verse in Exodus that God used to settle the question for good. From there, the conversation follows her calling into full-time missions: a prophetic word spoken over her at a roadside rest stop in Louisiana, a jaw-dropping story of buying a house with a single dollar and no income, and eleven and a half years serving trafficked and at-risk children in Thailand. Now in her 80s and living in Bradenton, Florida, Leona is still stepping out in faith — currently working to launch a Bible school in the Peruvian jungle and to build a network of women across South America who intercede for pastors and churches. She and Krista talk candidly about discerning God's voice, pushing through seasons of doubt, and why being "used of the Lord" is still, after all these years, the greatest joy of her life.Leona's childhood introduction to the gospel and her years walking away from faithComing to Christ after studying Hebrew Scripture to test whether Jesus was the MessiahA prophetic word delivered by a stranger at a roadside rest stopThe remarkable story of buying a house in Chestertown, Maryland with a one-dollar down paymentEleven and a half years on the mission field in Thailand working with children vulnerable to traffickingCurrent work in Bradenton, Florida, including plans for a Bible school in the Peruvian jungleAdvice for discerning God's call and pressing on through seasons of doubtLeona is the author of several books available on Amazon, including Chosen in Love, which tells the story of her inward journey from anger to the freedom of God's love as she ministered around the world.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were able to come away with a 6-1 win against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, earning a series split on the road.Jared Jones made his seventh start since coming off the injured list, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Carmen Mlodzinski came in and pitched three shutout innings, picking up his fifth win of the season. That gave way for Gregory Soto and Mason Montgomery to pitch the eighth and ninth, respectively. They didn't allow a hit or a walk, and combined to strike out four batters.Bucs On Deck is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Esmerlyn Valdez stayed hot, going 2-4 with a triple and three RBI. Nick Gonzales went 3-5 with two RBI, and Endy Rodriguez hit his fifth home run of the season. The Pirates now head to Washington for a three-game weekend series against the Nationals. Mitch Keller, Braxton Ashcraft, and Bubba Chandler are the three projected starters this weekend. Sammy Stafura continued to be hot at the plate, picking up four hits, including a double and a home run, in Greensboro's 23-10 win over Bowling Green on Thursday.Acquired from the Cincinnati Reds in the Ke'Bryan Hayes trade, Stafura has reached base in 21 straight games going back to the start of May. He's also recorded four straight multi-hit games and has homered in four of his last five. Despite a slow start while rehabbing with Bradenton, Stafura has his OPS up over .800 thanks to his recent play.Seth Hernandez made his first start of July, getting roughed up a bit at home against Bowling Green. In 3.2 innings pitched, Hernandez allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out seven. While he walked just one, he missed his spots on some of his pitches, which also led to the home run that eventually chased him from the game.Despite the outing, Hernandez still sports a 2.59 ERA this season, with 107 strikeouts over 66 innings pitched. He also picked off two baserunners, while also nearly notching a third. * RHP Enrique Quintana assigned to DSL Pirates Gold from DSL Pirates BlackTop Exit Velocity* Esmerlyn Valdez - PIT - 112.7 mph - Triple* Jhostynxon Garcia - IND - 110.8 mph - Double* Brandon Lowe - PIT - 109.8 mph - Lineout* Brandon Lowe - PIT - 106.6 mph - Single* Esmerlyn Valdez - PIT - 106.3 mph - Single* Ronny Simon - IND - 106.3 mph - DoubleTop Pitch Velocity* Jared Jones - PIT - 100.3 mph* Jared Jones - PIT - 100.2 mph* Jared Jones - PIT - 100.2 mph* Jared Jones - PIT - 100 mph* Jared Jones - PIT - 100 mphMost Whiffs* Seth Hernandez - GBO - 14* Jared Jones - PIT - 11* Noah Davis - IND - 11* Irwin Ramirez - BRD - 7* Dominic Perachi - ALT - 7* Joshua Loeschorn - ALT - 7* Carlson Reed - GBO - 7Support the site by becoming a paid member and get access to all of our premium content, including our top prospect list with complete player write-ups and video breakdowns, which come out weekly. It will also give access to my player feature articles from on-site trips. We have monthly and yearly plans available, with the latter costing an average of $4.16/month.Indianapolis Indians - 4 vs Omaha Storm Chasers - 2GamedayTop Hitter - Nick Cimillo: 1-3, R, 3 RBI, HRTop Pitcher - Mike Clevinger: 2 IP, KAltoona Curve - 10 vs Portland Sea Dogs - 3GamedayTop Hitter - Duce Gourson: 3-4, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB, HR, 3 SBTop Pitcher - Landon Tomkins: 2.2 IP, H, BB, 2 KGreensboro Grasshoppers - 23 vs Bowling Green Hot Rods - 10GamedayTop Hitter - Sammy Stafura: 4-6, 4 R, 4 RBI, 2B, HRTop Pitcher - Carlson Reed: 2 IP, 2 H, BB, 5 KBradenton Marauders - 6 vs Daytona Tortugas - 11GamedayTop Hitter - Antonio Pimentel: 2-5, R, RBI, 2B, 3BTop Pitcher - Noah Takacs: 0.2 IP, HFCL Pirates - 1 vs FCL Braves - 4GamedayTop Hitter - Darell Morel: 1-2, BB, 2 SBTop Pitcher - Dioris Martinez: 2 IP, 3 KDSL Pirates Black - SuspendedDSL Pirates Gold - 3 vs DSL Brewers - 9GamedayTop Hitter - Limanol Payero: 2-2, R, RBI, HRTop Pitcher - Yoslaniel Hernandez: 3 IP, H, ER, 5 BB, 2 K Get full access to Bucs On Deck at bucsondeck.substack.com/subscribe

EPISODE 729 - Melania Murphy - Bound by Love, Not Tradition - Empowering Women Through Married Name ChoicesIn this episode, Melania Murphy joins the show to explore how married name choices can be a powerful act of identity, equality, and intention in modern relationships. Based in Bradenton, Florida, Melania shares how her own family background—growing up in a household with multiple last names—helped spark her curiosity about why women so often drop their names when they marry. With a background in journalism and applied behavioral science, she digs into the history and social forces behind the tradition of women taking their husband's surname, tracing it back to coverture laws in England and the way those norms spread through British colonies into the United States.Melania explains how many people still default to the man's name long after the legal restrictions that once enforced it have been dismantled, and she contrasts this with practices in other countries such as Canada, France, Greece, and Japan, where laws or cultural shifts either limit or reshape married‑name choices. She emphasizes that in the U.S., couples actually have far more options than tradition suggests, including keeping both names, hyphenating, creating a new family name, or even having the husband take the wife's name. Using a framework she calls “SELF”—Significance, Empowerment, Legacy, and Freedom—she invites women to reflect on what their name means to them, how it connects to their ancestry, and how they want to model choice and equality for the next generation.A key takeaway for listeners is that changing or keeping a name should not be an automatic gesture, but an intentional conversation between partners. Melania encourages couples to look beneath surface‑level expectations, examine why a particular name feels important, and consider how their choice will shape their children's sense of identity. She also highlights that names are not permanent markers and that many people, including women after divorce, choose entirely new names to reflect who they have become. By normalizing a wider range of married‑name choices and inviting men to read her work as well, Melania hopes to move cultures toward a future where name decisions are grounded in equality, not inherited power structures. The conversation around identity, marriage, and women's autonomy is growing — and I'm honored to be part of it.Through articles, podcast interviews, and media features, I've had the opportunity to share insights from Bound by Love, Not Tradition and discuss the deeper cultural and personal implications of married name choices. What should you do with your last name at marriage? If you're unsure, you're not alone. In fact, 80% of American women still take their husband's name—even though the law no longer requires it.Whether you're a first- or second-time bride, a relative of a bride, or simply curious, this book gives you a fresh, empowering take on a decision that's both deeply personal and culturally complex.Author Melania Joy Murphy blends history, personal stories, and expert insight to help you explore all your options—keeping your name, changing it, hyphenating, blending, or asking him to take yours.Through her SELF framework—Significance, Empowerment, Legacy, and Freedom—you'll learn how to navigate your decision with confidence and compassion by exploring questions like:What is the significance of your name in your life and personal story?Do you feel empowered to put yourself first and ask for what you want? What legacy do you wish to create with your name? Can you enjoy the freedom to choose what feels right for you? This isn't just about paperwork. It's about identity, relationships, and claiming the space you deserve in your marriage and in society. No shame. No judgment. Artificial intelligence can generate outlines, summaries, illustrations, and sermon-like content in seconds. But should preachers use it? And if so, how?In this episode of the Expositors Collective podcast, Mike Neglia hosts a live panel discussion with Bob Franquiz, Pilgrim Benham, Ryan Marr, and Alan Stoddard on AI, ChatGPT, pastoral integrity, and the future of sermon preparation.Rather than simply asking whether AI can save time, the panel presses into deeper questions. What happens to the preacher when the work of sermon preparation is delegated to a machine? Can technology glorify God, or can it train us to depend less on prayer, study, Scripture, and the Holy Spirit? Where might AI serve as a limited tool, and where does it become a dangerous substitute?Pilgrim Benham reflects on the moral weight of technology and warns against treating tools as spiritually neutral. Ryan Marr offers a thoughtful, contrarian perspective on the formative effects of AI in the life of the preacher. Bob Franquiz speaks to the limits of ChatGPT, reminding listeners that AI can generate words quickly, but it cannot pastor people, carry a burden, or replace the preacher's communion with God in the text. Mike Neglia also suggests a narrow and cautious way AI might be used after a sermon draft is mostly complete, as a tool for clarification rather than creation. The central concern of this conversation is not fear of technology, but faithfulness in ministry. Preachers are called to study, pray, think, shepherd, and proclaim. AI may assist with certain tasks, but it cannot replace the spiritual and pastoral work of preaching. This conversation was recorded at an Expositors Collective preacher training event in St Petersburg, Florida. As a sidebar, the panel also ends with discussion on mentoring relationships, spotting future leaders, "overpreparing" early in ministry, the value of reading while you are young, and the difficult question every preacher faces: how do you know when a sermon is actually done?Featured guestsBob Franquiz is the Founding and Senior Pastor of Calvary Fellowship in Miramar, Florida. On this episode of Bucs On Deck, Jim and Anthony Murphy break down Jhostynxon “The Password” Garcia, one of the most intriguing outfielders in the Pittsburgh Pirates system. Garcia came over from the Boston Red Sox in the Johan Oviedo trade and has already shown why the Pirates were interested. He brings real raw power, the ability to play all three outfield spots, legitimate center-field defense, and enough athleticism to be more than a one-dimensional corner bat. The big question is whether the chase and swing-and-miss concerns will limit his ceiling, or if his power and defensive floor can make him a real piece for Pittsburgh. After a slow start, a back injury, a strong rehab stint in Bradenton, and a huge return to Indianapolis, Garcia is starting to look like someone who could push for a role sooner rather than later. Murf Gray has been one of the hottest hitters in the Pirates' minor league system, and on this week's Bucs On Deck, Jim and Anthony Murphy break down what makes his early pro performance so interesting. Gray, a competitive balance pick in last year's draft, is already showing an intriguing offensive profile in Bradenton with power, hard contact, strong bat-to-ball skills, and the type of production that could push him quickly through the system. But the biggest question may be on the defensive side: can he stick at third base, or does a potential move to first base change how we view his prospect ceiling? Jim and Murph dive into Gray's bat, his contact quality, his defensive outlook, and whether he could become a top-10 prospect in the Pirates system if everything clicks. Alex Stumpf breaks down where Jones fits, why his fastball/slider combo still gives the Pirates a different look, and how his return could impact Carmen Mlodzinski's role. Could Mlodzinski move back to the bullpen? Should the Pirates use an opener with him? Is a six-man rotation realistic? And how much should Pittsburgh value starting pitching depth while leaning on one of the most talented rotations of the Ben Cherington era? In this role he helps train and disciple the next generation of pastors, missionaries, and Bible teachers, investing in students who are preparing for lives of faithful ministry and service. In this session from the Expositors Collective training event in St Petersburg, Florida, Pilgrim speaks about the vital role of preaching mentorships. Whether these relationships are formal or informal, personal or within a group, he encourages preachers to intentionally invite feedback, guidance, and coaching from more experienced voices. Growth in preaching rarely happens in isolation. It happens when humility meets community, and when preachers are willing to learn from those who have walked the road before them.Pilgrim also highlights the biblical pattern of ministry multiplication. Paul's instruction to Timothy reminds us that faithful teaching is meant to be passed on from one generation to the next:“You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also" Upcoming Training WeekendMay 15th-16th, 2026 at Reliance Church in Temecula, CaliforniaTake advantage of early bird pricing until April 26th – only $120 per person!Register Today! The Expositors Collective is a network of pastors, leaders, and laypeople which exists to equip, encourage, and mentor the next generation of Christ-centered preachers. What to expect:In this interactive training weekend, attendees will hear insightful lectures, participate in Q&A panels, meet in small groups with a seasoned mentor, build ongoing relationships, and participate in a studying/teaching practicum.Who should attend:Christ-following men and women of all ages, ministry experience, and church backgrounds who are students of Scripture and desire to grow as teachers of the Word. Send a textStep into a hidden studio in western Pennsylvania and a sunlit shrine in Bradenton as we sit down with Pirates legend Steve Blass for a ride through memory, ritual, and the stories that make baseball feel like home. Steve opens up about retirement with Karen, the sanity of walking a quiet golf course, and the strict joy of a 4:30 happy hour that turns every day into a small celebration. The conversation moves with the ease of an old friend call—Jeopardy at 7:30, classic sitcom reruns, and an honest, can't-look-away take on Tiger King—before we step into his museum of moments. The memorabilia tour is a time machine. We see Steve vaulting Freddie Patek, co-managing a fantasy camp win with Bob Walk, and a row of gleaming Ford Thunderbirds circling the Forbes Field track in 1967. He brings out rare Pittsburgh artifacts from a traveling baseball school with Honus Wagner and Wilbur Cooper, proof that the game's roots run deep and loud. We laugh at Eddie Feigner's King and His Court showmanship and share the kind of clubhouse humor that still rings true. Then the stories deepen. Steve remembers Willie Stargell's grace, a dugout snapshot at Three Rivers, and an Oval Office visit with President Nixon after Roberto Clemente's death to support the dream of Ciudad Deportiva. He reflects on how Clemente's vision could have reshaped Puerto Rico for generations. Finally, we stand on the dugout roof for the last day at Three Rivers, a World Series ring catching the light as thousands sing Take Me Out to the Ball Game. It's a portrait of baseball as community: history preserved in photos, laughter, and a city's voice lifted together. If you love Pirates history, Roberto Clemente's legacy, and the human side of a World Series pitcher, this one's for you.
