At 16, George spent a summer assisting stunt coordinator Greg Powell at Pinewood Studios, and his life has been dedicated to stunts ever since. We later learn how new technologies and advances in visual effects have assisted the stunt department in safely executing elaborate stunts, and George reflects on the department's modern pivot away from its historically machismo culture. On March 21, Meta's Threads entered the fediverse. This means that people on other ActivityPub-powered platforms, like Mastodon, can follow federated Threads profiles and see, like, reply to, and repost posts from the fediverse. (Eventually, you'll be able to follow other fediverse accounts from Threads, too.) It's still early days, but Threads' entry shows the ecosystem coming together at a larger scale, starting with the promise of interoperability. Threads' presence in the fediverse has been the elephant in the room since it was announced in July 2023. Now that it's actually happening, there is as much skepticism as excitement. Why is Threads doing this? How is the team working with the community? How are they thinking about moderation, monetization and privacy in these early days and going forward? In this episode of Dot Social, Flipboard CEO Mike McCue talks to two key leaders tasked with building the Threads experience: Rachel Lambert, Director of Product Management, and Peter Cottle, Software Engineer. Both are long-time Meta employees with a genuine care for open-source software and communities, as well as trust and safety. In fact, Rachel launched the Oversight Board, which helps Meta be accountable for trust and safety decisions across its social apps. Highlights of this conversation:• Meta's motivations• How foundational is the fediverse for Threads (vs. it being a “feature”)• Deciding to use ActivityPub instead of another protocol• Threads' roadmap and next step• Addressing community concerns around seriousness of investment, moderation, monetization and more• Future of interoperability within Meta

Health education is lacking in most school systems, to the extent that most high school graduates can't name 10 muscles in their own bodies. Anatomical learning has historically been seen as boring, complex, and difficult to make relevant. Today, things have changed, thanks to 3D software, inexpensive models, and cadaver dissections freely available around the world. On this week's podcast, you'll meet an online educator reaching millions monthly with anatomy and physiology videos using real human cadavers. You'll learn: How cadavers are donated and used ethically (or not) in science The anomalous nature of all of our bodies Why real human bodies are still an invaluable resource in learning How to use LLMs / AI to advance your learning Links Institute of Human Anatomy Dissection Room on Youtube Substack ABOUT OUR GUEST Justin Cottle is the Lab Director at the Institute of Human Anatomy, a private human cadaver lab located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Human dignity doesn't end when suffering begins—but today more than ever our culture peddles the lie that it's better to choose death than to suffer. Jesus has something better for us. Christ calls us to love every image bearer with His committed, sacrificial, persevering, and selfless love—even when those we care for can contribute absolutely nothing. As a palliative care doctor of over 30 years, Dr. Margaret Cottle has both witnessed and practiced this Christlike love that dignifies every human being from beginning to end. She shares how Christ transforms our experience of suffering, grief, death, and sacrificial love. Listen to be encouraged and inspired by the robust, Christian understanding of human dignity and the glorious responsibility we have to humbly give and receive care. Our hands. How often do you think about your hands and all they do for you each and everyday? We put them to work the moment we get out of bed until we turn the lights off at night. Our hands grab, wave, lift, hold, caress..and in addition, our wrists and arms allow us to practice for example, the Long Stretch series on the Reformer, or the Pull Up on the Wunda chair. Did you know that the forearm alone has over twenty muscles? Though crucial to everyday activities, our hands don't get all that much attention. Joe understood this and invented devices to help strengthen fingers, hands and wrists. The Hands-Tens-O-meter and the Bean Bag roll up device can be found in many Pilates studios, and who knows what else Joe Pilates would have invented had he lived longer.About Darien Gold ~ https://www.dariengold.comMusic credits ~ AKA JohnnyInstagram: @theotherjohnmayerEmail: mayerranchrecordings@gmail.comAbout Institute of Human Anatomy ~-https://instituteofhumananatomy.com
I cannot wait for yall to hear this episode! What was just a normal drive through Midway, like Britt and I always do, ended with me seeing a sign I never noticed before to not having one of the most coolest interviews with some of the coolest people.Cascade Academy is a residential treatment center that specializes in treating anxiety in teenage girls during some of their most critical years, between the ages of 13 and 18.This interview will be one that I never forget and that's thanks to the whole Cascade Academy Team but especially to Caleb (one of the Founders), LeaKae (Director of Admissions) and Bekah (CEO, Clinical Mental Health Counselor) who I sit down with today. We talk about how Cascade Academy was started, how it looks like and then also a little bit of what the girls go through and how they are helped. This can be a very touchy subject, but one thing I hope you get from this interview is that there always is a way. If you are suffering with anything debilitating in your life, just know there are so many resources. If you or anyone you know is a teenage girl who struggles with crippling anxiety, definitely check out Cascade Academy or even if you would like to support their efforts be sure to go to:https://cascadeacademy.com/Maybe you are suffereing with Anxiety, OCD, Depression but you arent an adolescent any more, something that I loved in this episode is the message that, if you think there is something wrong, there's no harm in getting it checked out.Research therapists in your area use DOPL, the state of Utah's website that verifies individuals with occupational or professional licenses.https://secure.utah.gov/llv/search/index.htmlYou can even check out online services such as Betterhelp, which is an entire website with real, licensed therapists who connect with you all online vs. in office.https://www.betterhelp.com/Above all, just know this world is a better place with you in it, I too have my own issues with anxiety, specifically 'Mom Anxiety' and if there's one thing I got from this episode, it's okay to admit that and it's okay to admit I need help with that. Not only to help myself but to help my family. We're in this together, y'all! Insta: @munchandminglepodcastE-mail: munchandminglepodcast@gmail.com

As midterm election results continue to trickle in, one thing is clear: There's no predicting American voters. After an unexpected showing for Democrats in tight races across the country, Jane Coaston speaks with the Times editorial board member Michelle Cottle and the Opinion columnist Ross Douthat to recap what happened at the polls. Together they discuss how the Democrats won “the expectations game,” who had the worst night (Donald Trump) and what the clouded results reveal about the bigger story of American democracy. “What we are looking at is an electorate that is feeling unsettled, and neither party made the case that they were going to provide the strength, stability, normalcy to create a wave election,” Cottle says.(A full transcript of the episode will be available on the Times website.)
American politics has an age problem. At least, that's what voters think. According to a new New York Times/Siena College poll, 33 percent of Democrats who want a different candidate for president in 2024 pointed to Joe Biden's age as a motivating factor. But a nearly equal percentage say they aren't keen to have Biden for a second term because of his job performance — or lack thereof. Could the answer to appease voters be that Democrats just need some young blood?
