It's been exactly one year since UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was murdered in Manhattan. And 27-year-old Luigi Mangione is back in a New York courtroom today, as attention turns to his interactions with the police officers who arrested him at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, five days into the manhunt. The FBI has arrested a man in connection with two pipe bombs that were planted outside the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee headquarters the night before the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in 2021. Military officials showed lawmakers video of a second strike on an alleged Venezuelan drug boat behind closed doors on Capitol Hill on Thursday, and testified that there was no order from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to kill everyone on board, multiple lawmakers said. Exactly one year after the killing of United "Healthcare" CEO Brian Thompson, the PG crew looks back on one year of Luigi Mangione. They recap what's happened in the case so far, shout out Luigi's biggest supporters, and give updates on what's happening in Luigi's trio of court dates this week. At issue is the evidence police collected from Luigi's backpack upon his arrest in Altoona, PA, which the defense is moving to have excluded because the police did not read him his Miranda rights as required by law. The crew also announces an exciting new project from the December 4th Legal Committee, namely, a book! Depose: Luigi Mangione and the Right to Health, due out this coming May from Ill Will Editions, examines the public reaction to Luigi Mangione's alleged crime, placing it within the great western tradition of tyrannicide (the killing of a tyrant) and laying out a roadmap for how Americans could use this as a jumping off point to create a mass movement to guarantee everyone the right to health, once and for all. The lion's share of the royalties will be split between the Luigi Mangione Legal Defense Fund and other health justice projects. The gospel is for people like Jacob. And people like us.
In May of 2023, Crystal was sitting at a traffic light, near a well-known landmark in Pennsylvania, when she had a Sasquatch sighting. The landmark is called Horseshoe Curve. Horseshoe Curve is a winding series of curves, bridges, and tunnels that a railroad track winds through and over, near Altoona, Pennsylvania. Crystal had been in that area numerous times, going for hikes and doing various other things. Never, though, had she ever seen anything out of the ordinary. Never had she seen anything that wasn't supposed to exist. Join us this week as we continue our sermon series on Genesis with chapter 26 verse 34 through chapter 27 verse 40. Genesis 27 reads more like a “not top 10” blooper reel than a highlight of faith. Every main character fails. Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, and Esau. It's a story of lies, favoritism, manipulation, deception, and broken trust. And yet God's plan still prevails. When everyone is working against God's will, He brings about exactly what He promised. God works even through failure, and His purposes never fail.

Join us again this week as we continue our series in Genesis with a sermon on chapter 26 verses 1-33. Genesis 26 is the only chapter in the Bible where Isaac is the main character, and here we find many parallels between him and his father Abraham. Famine, fear, conflict, and covenant. Isaac walks a road that feels all too familiar. Yet God's faithfulness to Abraham is reaffirmed in Isaac's journey. And not because Isaac is perfect, but because God's promises are.
Join us again this week as we continue our series on Genesis, continuing with chapter 25 verses 19-34. This week we meet Jacob and Esau. Two brothers who show us what happens when we despise the promises of God.Esau gives away his birthright for a bowl of stew. Jacob seizes it through manipulation. This story is about the contrast between shortsightedness and faith, self-reliance and grace, human failure and God's sovereign plan. We've all been like Esau. We've all been like Jacob. But the good news is, Jesus shares his birthright with those who believe.

Were it not for the famous Lizzie Borden murder trial taking place five hundred miles away in Fall River, Massachusetts, the story of the phantom train of Cambria County might have become well-known outside of Carrolltown. This tiny borough sits twenty miles west of Altoona, and, in 1892, became a stop on the newly-formed Cambria & Clearfied Railroad. The focal point of this rail line was a tunnel constructed through Strittmatter Hill, just south of Carrolltown. And it was near this spot where one of the strangest unexplained events in Pennsylvania history took place.

Join us as we launch into our newest sermon series on Genesis, continuing where we left off with chapter 23, verses 1-20. In this chapter, Abraham faces the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Sarah. And while this chapter may seem like a random, obscure negotiation for land, it's actually one of the most profound acts of faith in the Old Testament. Abraham puts faith in God's promises, trusting in a future he can't see yet, but one he knows will come to pass because he has seen what God has already done.Abraham only owned a cave and a field, but he lived like heaven was his true homeland. We're called to do the same.
