In Shat Talk Episode 003 I spoke with award-winning bassist and composer Matt Ulery who has just released his seventh record, Festival, on Woolgathering Records. Known for his sweeping lyricism, unconventional phrase structures, and expressionistic emotionalism, Ulery’s music is informed by the entire spectrum of jazz, classical, rock, pop, and folk – specifically American, South American, Balkan, and other European folk styles. Matt and I definitely talked some shat as we discussed his compositional process, the importance of developing one's inner musical voice, working as both a writer and sideman, and his continuing collaboration with Grammy Award winners Eighth Blackbird. Bajista y cantante, Ksawery Wójcinski se multiplica en "The soul", disco en el que a solas y de forma superpuesta, toca también piano y guitarra. La cantante Grazyna Auguscik se pone al frente de su orquesta para afrontar un ambicioso proyecto "Inspired by Lutoslawski". La música y el folclore que inspiraron a uno de los compositores clave del siglo XX polaco inspiran ahora un proyecto que combina formación camerística, folclórica y jazzística. La nómina de trompetistas polacos es amplia. Entre las nuevas hornadas surgen nombres como los de Wojciech Jachna, que en Sundial comparte trío con el pianista Grzegorz Tarwid y el baterista Albert Karch. También en trío, aunque con el contrabajista Nils Bo Davidsen y el baterista Anders Mogensen, se presenta el trompetista Tomasz Dabrowski en "Radical moves".Avalado por músicos como Maria Schneider, el pianista Nikola Kolodziejczyk se pone al frente de su orquesta, una combinación de extensa big band más cuarteto de cuerdas, en "Chord nation". Jazz In Chicago's Dan Melnick Interviews Grazyna Auguscik. Her Orkestar Universale, featuring special guests Paulinho Garcia and Goran Ivanovic performed at the Millennium Park World Class Jazz Made in Chicago, the past summer. Grazyna Auguscik’s pristine vocals have long been a perfect match for the delicate phrasings of Brazilian musician Paulinho Garcia’s guitar. Polish-born Auguscik has been exploring the music of many countries throughout her career. This concert brought virtuoso Polish accordionist Jarek Bester together with Auguscik, Garcia and Yugoslavian guitarist Goran Ivanovic to perform original compositions using native instruments from three continents.
