"I'M GOING TO GET SICK." Long before the days of Blade, X-Men, and Spider-Man, Marvel films were borderline nonexistent. Only a handful got made, and none on the theatrical level of endeavors such as Superman: The Movie or Batman 1989. One such endeavor was the Yugoslavian-produced venture based on Marvel's Star Spangled Man with a Plan. The film has become subject to jest and ridicule over the years, and it's time to kick the dead horse yet again. So, come join Brian, Alec, Trey, and Darby as they take a look at Albert Pyun's CAPTAIN AMERICA!

Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com    My best Ty… he can tell me anything.. .meaning he can call me fat, slow, a jerk… and its all good. I get it. But If I tell my wife or any of the women in my life something as simple as “you look a little frumpy…” it's hell to pay.  So what gives…       A Yugoslavian proverb states: tell the truth and run.  Men internally have a better coping mechanism to deal with their guy friends when they get heckled or picked on. They simply joke back, or subtly admit to it… hey Garth quit being such a cry baby, you wuss. And I would shrug and go yea… I am kinda being a little girl about this.   My best friend last month face timed me so I could do some online personal training for him. I took my shirt off to show him how to move the cable across his body and how to activate the proper pictorial muscles… long story short he called me the next day (he lives a day away) and said I look big as ever, but I've got a bigger belly than he has ever seen on me… now believe it or not, I do have reasons why that is - and its not fat. But long story short I was not mad, chippy or did I give it any thought… I just laughed and said yea its my life now. I think I even joked back and said “but at least im still ugly”.  Rabbit trail…  If mom is on high alert, you will grow up on high alert, anxiety, depression, self doubt, condemnation etc… it will be what you eat daily and you will later on in life continue to feed on it.    Trauma can be ignored… or better said “can be normal” if you see it as an outside stimulus that you get to choose how to respond to.    Ever hear someone screaming at someone and their phone rings and they turn into a totally different person? They are choosing (on their own) how to respond to that stress or trauma. They are choosing to make that issue they are yelling at something they feel like they control. Or better yet, they feel like they can control it by a negative response. People will say well I couldn't help it he made me angry… no not really - you chose to get angry over it.    How did Jesus handle pain, regret, stress, anger… etc… well he ignored it… by that I mean he turned to what was in control / or should I say who was in control. - the Father, his father, our father. God the Father. We say oh yea of course… but we don't do that until it is our last option. We do not ignore it (burying it and not talking about it is not ignoring it… it will show up in our life somehow, eating, drinking, shopping, outbursts etc…)  we chew and brew on it, we combust over it, we overreact to it, we anger over it. But if we went to who was in charge knowing full well that he wants the absolute best for us… we can bring it to him and ignore it from there on. In the garden of Gethsemane he is under a ton of stress, but no one knows… he does not tell anyone or act out. He goes to the father and when his prayer time is over, he heads out to face the executioner.  Again, its not that we don't feel it, we just choose not to react to it, we go to the father.  You may say, yeah but what about when Jesus got angry and tipped over the tables and chased out the tax collectors and people in the temple. Well, he did not react, he responded. He knew his fathers heart and he chose to show his Fathers displeasure. He angered and sinned not as scripture says. Whats the difference for us? We do not go to the father first. God might indeed tell us to get angry in a Godly way - but only if we go to him first and not just react angrily. There is a lot of nuance here but I know you get it.    There is another world out there, and its in this one. Paul Elard I would ask which one does your mind live in.

Millennials Are Killing Capitalism
Another Look at Losurdo's Stalin Featuring Henry Hakamäki, Salvatore Engel-Di Mauro, David Peat, and Ben Stahnke

Millennials Are Killing Capitalism

In July of 2023, we published a conversation on the Iskra Books translation of Domenico Losurdo's Stalin: History and Critique of a Black Legend with Henry Hakamäki and Salvatore Engel-Di Mauro (book/listen to part 1 here). We found the book really fascinating and had lots of questions, so we were only able to cover about half of our questions in our first conversation. This conversation is essentially the part 2 of that conversation, in which Henry and Salvatore are joined by Iskra editors David Peat and Ben Stankhe. Of course by the time we got around to recording this episode in late October, we were three weeks into Israel's genocidal counterinsurgency campaign against Palestinians, after the heroic uprising known as Al-Aqsa Flood. Obviously, I didn't intend to delay the release of this episode for almost a year, but at the time I kept telling myself there would eventually be a ceasefire and a new normal would be established. One year later that hasn't happened yet, and doesn't necessarily seem and closer than it was a year ago. All that is really by way of an apology to Ben, David, Henry, and Salvatore for not getting this episode out sooner. It absolutely warrants your attention and it actually relates in many ways to not only the struggle of Palestinians today, but to all struggles for national liberation, socialism, and communism.  We also just hosted another conversation on Domenico Losurdo's work last week on our YouTube channel. In that one, Gabriel Rockhill discusses the English translation of Losurdo's ‘Western Marxism: How it was Born, How it Died, How it can be Reborn,' which he edited and was just released on Monthly Review Press (book/episode). There are a number of references in the episode which I have tried to link in the show notes. First and foremost head over to Iskra books and check out their catalogue of books. As Henry mentions all of their books are available as free pdfs, but I definitely also encourage you to support their work. They're doing really important stuff, and we plan to highlight more of their work going forward.  I've also linked a conversation we had a couple months ago on another Iskra Books release Ruehl Muller's Building a People's Art which is about the role of art and artists in the Vietnamese liberation struggle (book/episode) As Henry and Salvatore mention at the end of the episode, Communism: The Highest Stage of Ecology, which is an agroecological history of the Soviet Union and Cuba, which will be out via Iskra later this year. You can follow all of Iskra's releases on Iskrabooks.org and just a reminder that free PDFs are available for this book and all of their others on their website. We plan to highlight more Iskra Books publications going forward. Including a soon to be scheduled episode on a book they published on Yugoslavian film, and on October 28th at 10 AM EDT we'll host Conor McCabe to discuss The Lost & Early Writings of James Connolly, the Irish revolutionary (book/livestream) And lastly, this is our third audio episode of October, and we are trying to get back to releasing audio content with more regularity. To that end it would be really helpful if some of our listeners who do not yet support the show on patreon, became patrons for as little as $1 a month. The main purpose of becoming a patron is of course to support our work, but we do have a recent patreon-exclusive episode with several folks from Black Liberation Media including Jared Ball from IMIXWHATILIKE, Renee Johnston from Saturday's with Renee, and Geechee Yaw from Earn Your Liberation. Shout-out to all of them and if you become a patron of the show you will get access to that recent conversation which primarily focuses on social media, YouTube and censorship. Sign up at patreon.com/millennialsarekillingcapitalism Guest bios: Henry Hakamäki is best known as the co-host of the Guerrilla History podcast. And of course among many other things, he is also the co-translator and editor of the book we will be discussing today. You can follow him on Twitter at @huck1995. Salvatore Engel-Di Mauro is Professor at the Geography Department of SUNY New Paltz and is chief editor for the journal Capitalism Nature Socialism.  His book Socialist States and the Environment is available from Pluto Press.  Ben Stahnke is an educator, organizer, and artist working on the intersection of political ecology, education, and print. Ben holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in environmental studies, a M.A. in political philosophy, and is currently pursuing a second doctorate in education. David Peat serves as an editor and copy-editor for both Iskra Books and Peace, Land, and Bread, is a student of Marxism-Leninism from Lancashire, England, who organises with Red Fightback. He has a B.A. in philosophy and is interested in political economy, ecology, and revolutionary education.

Basketball has grown into a worldwide sport over the past several decades. But this worldwide explosion of talent did not happen overnight. Like any other explosion, it starts with a single spark.  In Europe that spark was named Radivoj Korac.  Korac played for the Yugoslavian national basketball team in the 1950's and 60s, and quickly gained acclaim after winning The Best Athlete of Yugoslavia (Zlatna značka), and Yugoslav Sportsman of the Year (Sportske novosti award). He laid the path for future European superstars to follow in the years to come. Sadly, Korac never got to see his true peak or join the NBA after passing away in a tragic car accident at the age of 30.  Today, Baxter Holmes joins the show to tell us the story of the legendary Radivoj Korac, and how his stardom spawned the European dominance we see today. "The era is brought to life by the accounts of Albanians who lived through it, which capture the importance of football to a populace starved of any other source of communal enjoyment. The otherworldliness and innate cruelty of the Stalinist regime provide a terrifying backdrop to their tales," reads the blurb for Phil Harrison's book The Hermit Kingdom: Football Stories from Stalinist Albania.  Albania, on the far eastern edge of Europe, followed a rather unique path through the Cold War - and has a unique soccer culture to match that period. Caught between Russia, China and neighboring Yugoslavia, in a country that outlawed religion for all intents and purposes, the stories from Albania between 1946 and 1991 offers the use of pigeons by fan groups, evil Yugoslavian radios, an almost World Cup qualifier, and an erratic dictatorial regime that proudly practiced Stalinism long after Stalin was death. This week we begin our journey covering the one and only, Rod Blagojevich. Rod is the epitome of the American Dream– the son of Yugoslavian immigrants, he came from humble beginnings, shining shoes, delivering pizza, working as a… bookie. He worked himself all the way up to Congress and the story does not stop there! He ran for Governor of Illinois and won on an anti-corruption platform. Spoiler alert: he was corrupt!!! Rod was on the up and up, sneaking in bits of corruption here and there, that is until he tried to sell then-President-elect Barack Obama's Senate seat. He flew too close to the sun and can you blame him?! There's so much more to the story and it only gets better (worse) from here!! Follow The Show:Twitter: https://twitter.com/fraudstersLPNInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/fraudsterslpn/Discord: https://discord.gg/WRZ8zgusPTWebsite: https://fraudsters.fm/ Follow the Hosts: https://twitter.com/seenanowhttps://www.instagram.com/justin_williams_comedyhttps://twitter.com/arielleaty YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQwl8sDTVEAxhwJdYgm-yrgIntroMusic Credit and Sound Fx:https://twitter.com/gograntgordonSeason Cover Art by:https://comedyartwork.com/ Media Links:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qre7DzEtxyc&t=50shttps://www.c-span.org/video/?74609-1/democratic-convention-afternoon-sessionhttps://www.c-span.org/video/?74883-1/illinois-5th-districthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T_Scmgc6Q0&t=103shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo29Q3gfJnQ&t=84shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V03szmwwCBg&t=1shttps://www.c-span.org/video/?174596-1/illinois-gubernatorial-inauguralhttps://www.c-span.org/video/?298903-1/david-axelrod-conversation-james-warrenhttps://www.c-span.org/video/?194711-1/illinois-gubernatorial-debatehttps://www.wbez.org/shows/public-official-a/09be1fbf-e991-4627-88ed-0004c94b48f6https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOKg9pbHIpY&t=87shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANe8f1ElZFs

CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains persistent graphic genocide violence and cruelty, especially in its first 75 minutes. Listener discretion is advised. In this part of the ongoing "Muslim Nazis" series, we are about to descend into the depths of hell. This was by design by the murderous Ustashe regime that took power after the invasion and dismemberment of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia by the Fuhrer of the Third Reich, Adolf Hitler. What happened next was a nightmare beyond the the imagining of most modern, comfortable nations in the 21st century. But it all happened.Serbs, Jews, Roma, and others were singled out not just for extermination, but extermination in the most brutal methods imaginable, thanks both to the savage hatreds festering under the surface of the former Kingdom's political culture, but also because the perpetrators actually saw their cruelty as the point; as their mission. It was less about politics, or religion, or anything really, than it was about simplistic notions of identity-based vengeance that never really made much sense to begin with.In the wake of this slaughter, however, more chaos was to follow. Almost immediately after the Nazi-fascist invasion, resistance began to crop up, both from Serb nationalist royalists and the multi-ethnic, multi-religious communist Partisans, as well as from other, less-armed but no-less-motivated groups we will be examining in later episodes. The three-to-five-sided civil war that exploded across the region not only swallowed up thousands of lives and muddied the waters of loyalty and nationhood and identity, but it placed the Nazis in the greatest quagmire the world had yet seen, where even members of their own military apparatus--no strangers to the deliberate mass destruction of civilians--were horrified by what they saw their supposed allies do to their hated countrymen. If anyone thought self-reflection was in order, however, they were naïve.The story of the Yugoslavian territory during World War II--one of pain and unresolved trauma--is one that will likely not be matched in European history in terms of sheer brutality and hatred, at least not for a very long time. But it's a story that must be examined, even if only as part of a much larger one. Also: Make sure to check out my friend and comrade Saša Paprić's awesome work here and here.History Impossible has been made possible by the following generous supporters on Patreon, Substack, and PayPal. Those successes were the pinnacle of a career which saw him compete across marathon and cross-country races, breaking a combined 25 Croatian and later Yugoslavian national records in long-distance track events between 5000m and 25km - but which started as a cyclist and footballer. In this conversation we talk to Ivan Stoiljkovic.  Ivan is the General Secretary of Katarokwi Union of Tenants, the Kingston Peace Council and a member of the Communist Party of Canada. This conversation is a part of a newer series of conversations where we talk to people about texts that they find politically useful and important. It's a different approach that moves beyond a typical author talk - which we will continue to do - to engage theory and history with people who are seeking to put theory into practice, or organize with others to deal with the concrete situation they face. Our first episode that came from this idea was last month our discussion with Thandisizwe Chimurenga and Yusef “Bunchy” Shakur on the political writings of Sanyika Shakur.  In this discussion we are talking about E.P. Thompson's essay “Time, Work Discipline and Industrial Capitalism”  In that discussion we discuss the imposition of time and time discipline that came with the onset of industrial capitalism. We talk a bit about the various ways that workers resisted the imposition of this sense of time, and then began to fight over time itself. Ultimately however, the fight is to abolish time, which can only be achieved through the abolition of capitalism.  Prior to that discussion, we start with a little bit of Ivan's personal and political history, including his childhood in socialist Yugoslavia, and then delve into a discussion of multiple aspects of Thompson's essay.  If you appreciate the work that we do, for August we have an ambitious goal of adding 50 patrons to the show. You can help us meet this goal by either increasing your pledge or pledging as little as $1 a month at patreon.com/millennialsarekillingcapitalism. This is just our second episode of August, but we plan to feature at least four more discussions this month.  Links: Ivan Stoiljkovic's Twitter Ivan's FB Page Katarokwi Union of Tenants FB page and website The Yugoslavian leftist group called ‘Crvena Dijaspora' which he describes in the discussion E.P. Jóhann Jóhannsson was one of contemporary cinema's greatest score composers when he passed away in 2018 at the young age of 48. Last and First Men, his enigmatic directorial debut, was released shortly after in 2020. Based on a novel by the same name by the British science fiction writer Olaf Stapleton, the film offers a sustained meditation on the prospect of extinction, the eventuality of humanity's disappearance from the comos. In this episode, JF and Phil discuss the images and sounds of the film as they flicker and swell against the backdrop of nonbeing that envelops us all.
