POPULARITY
What a week it's been. Since the last episode, Theresa May has resigned as leader of the Conservatives, her party was thumped in the European Parliament elections in which Nigel Farage's Brexit Party came out on top, Labour has indicated a shift in position over a second EU referendum and the list of candidates to succeed Mrs May as Prime Minister has jumped into double figures. Plenty to assess then as host Adam Boulton is joined by the head of politics at City AM Owen Bennett, visiting research fellow at the London School of Economics Sophia Gaston, Sky's political reporter Aubrey Allegretti and the head of Sky Data Harry Carr.
The TUP Show is back, this week Ada and Jack are joined by new group member Harry to discuss the weeks news... Theresa May announced the date of her resignation sending Westminster and MP's into a whirlwind of activity, who are the contenders, and are there any dark horses in the race? It has also been a big week across the European Union with people going to the polls in the European Parliament elections. We follow along the results as they come in live during recording and give our thoughts on brexit and the lack of opposition from the labour party. And to round it up we talk the collapse of British Steel, Nigel Farage's Brexit Party, Greggs vegan sausages, Trumps Executive order and its fallout for Huawei! #mayresigns #euelections #britishsteel ================================================== Support TUP and gain some cool benefits in the process: Patreon.com/tup Join in the community over on our Facebook group for more discussion: bit.ly/tupgroup Check out our interviews and video content over on YouTube: bit.ly/tupyt And you can also troll us on twitter @TheTUPShow
European elections are on the horizon and explicitly anti-Brexit parties as well as Nigel Farage's Brexit Party have seen recent poll boosts. Local elections saw heavy losses for the Tories and more complex picture for the Labour party than many had reported on. Plus, picking apart more questionsable frontpage stories ran by the Times. Hosted by James Fox w/ Alex Maskill
Correspondent Anne Saenen.
On this week's Spectator Podcast, we talk about how Nigel Farage's Brexit Party could pose an existential threat to the Tories (00:40). Also on the podcast, a debate special about whether the UK should legalise all drugs (11:45), and finally, what is lesbian-tourism (34:45)? With Katy Balls, James Forsyth, Matthew Goodwin, Chris Daw QC, Peter Hitchens, and Julie Bindel. Presented by Lara Prendergast. Produced by Siva Thangarajah.
Lesley went to a fringe meeting at the STUC annual conference on local government finance reform and we kick off this week's podcast with this. And if you thought I was an anorak on the D'Hondt Formula...... Seriously, Lesley goes on to explore the nature of local democracy in the light of recent revelations regarding the English local elections. We've been promising to focus on climate change for weeks and the recent appearance of George Monbiot on Frankie Boyle's New World Order, plus tonight's David Attenborough documentary on BBC, provide the opportunity. Like death and taxes, we can't escape Brexit and with the recent polls showing Nigel Farage's Brexit Party in the lead across the UK we discuss this, and the ever "interesting" political positions of George Galloway. Along the way there's more than a mention of Dundee United, that defamation case, and the gabbiness of Lawside Academy FPs
Adam Boulton and guests discuss the French response to the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris this week and assess the nation's religious literacy which has been scrutinised in the aftermath. And with European Parliament elections on the horizon, there's the fascinating spectacle of the battle for the pro-Leave vote with UKIP up against Nigel Farage's Brexit Party. Joining Adam this week are the journalist Andy Walton, France 24's London correspondent Benedicte Paviot and Sky's political reporter Rob Powell.
