POPULARITY
This sermon covers the important and often difficult question of the relationship between the New Testament Church and Old Testament Israel in Christ. There is much to learn within this very complex subject, but one of the most important things is to recognize that the Old Testament and New Testament are not two separate stories, but one continuous story in which Jesus Christ is both the central figure and Cornerstone. Through the Cross, Jesus has inaugurated the New Covenant era, having fulfilled all that was temporarily foreshadowed and anticipated throughout redemptive history in the Old Covenant. Thus, we now see that in Christ, all true believers from every age comprise the one, eternal, blood-bought people of God, the True Israel of God and Church forevermore. May this message be a blessing to you and help deepen your understanding of your faith. White Oak church of Christ
White Oak church of Christ
When the gospel is central in our lives, we have and maintain intimacy with God because of Jesus' priestly ministry. We know that Jesus is our mediator with God the Father and that He has made perfect peace for us through Hs sacrifice, allowing us to draw near to God with the eager expectation of receiving grace, not judgement.
A long time ago, being in God's presence was so exclusive, that only one person a year was allowed into the place where ancient Israelites believed God dwelled. And that person (the high priest), risked their life to enter. Any misstep in ritual cleansing would result in certain death. The Israelites believed this so fervently, that a rope was tied around the priest's ankle, so he could be dragged out should he perish, sparing anyone else from entering to retrieve him. The exclusivity of entering into God's presence is greater than any bottlenecked entryway we can fathom. We have come to take it for granted. So hear the gospel. Be reminded that Christ has opened the door, and has left each of us an open seat at God's eternal banqueting table.
