There has been a huge increase in Christian “Bible” Cults over the past 40 plus years- especially ones that do “Shepherding or Dicipling” in an authoritarian structure. The public doesnt understand how millions of people are deceptively recruited and indoctrinated into these groups and why they are called “cults.” One such cult network started in Massachusetts in 1979 as “the Boston Church of Christ” and are not to be confused with the mainline Church of Christ or the United Church of Christ. This group uses BITE Model methods to recruit and indoctrinate followers to follow the top leader as an “apostle or prophet” or “God's chosen man to lead Christianity on earth. Unlike legitimate Christian churches this cult claims to be the “only” path to salvation and demands people subit and obey a discpling partner as if they were Jesus. Their lives and free will are taken over by involvement with this group. REcruiting other, giving money, abandoning education and careers, even family are part of the playbook. Tania Diaz was recruited as an 18 college student in Mexico and spent over 20 years. She and her husband were groomed to recruit countless Hispanics into this cult. She would rise through the church's ranks, only escaping nearly thirty years later to become an anti-cult activist, self-compassion advocate, and host of a podcast dedicated to survivors of religious abuse, Voces: Espacio Sagrado para Sobrevivientes de Abuso Religioso (In English, Voices: A Sacred Space for Survivors of Religious Abuse) Learn more about your ad choices. Aaron Keeton was born and raised in Eastern Kentucky in the Church of Christ denomination—a movement that taught a five-step plan of salvation: Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess, and Be Baptized. Though Jesus was mentioned, the finished work of Christ—His death for our sins and resurrection—was never the focus.Aaron became a preacher within this system, travelling and teaching wherever doors opened. But everything changed when he encountered the doctrine of Imputed Righteousness—the truth that our standing before God is based on Christ's righteousness credited to us by faith alone. This realization shook his world and radically transformed his preaching. He began proclaiming the true Gospel: that Christ alone saves, and that believers can have assurance of salvation through faith in Jesus. His new convictions led to his removal from the Church of Christ, but Aaron hasn't looked back. He continues to boldly preach and teach the Bible with clarity, passion, and a deep love for the Gospel of grace.
Wayne and Cindy Rodgers sit down with Martin Johnson. He and his wife Julie have been working with the church of Christ in Sandpoint, Idaho, as part of a mission effort for the past 7 years. They are involved heavily in ministry, using YouTube and other ways to reach out to their community. The Johnson family moved to northern Idaho 7 years ago, purchased property, and began living “off-grid” and working toward self-sustainability and showing others how to do so. Many, through their efforts and influence, have obeyed the Gospel. Acts chapter 10 is a pivotal chapter in the Book of Acts. In it we see the doors opening wide for the inclusion of the Gentiles into the church of Christ. Luke underlines the truth that God shows no partiality (10:34) in his consideration of individuals. We are all welcomed as we turn to God because Jesus is Lord of all (v36). May we have thankful hearts that God has received us (Gentiles) into his kingdom of grace, mercy and love.

Sunday, July 6, 2025 – Pastor Mike continues our study of the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God, focusing on Truth #11 – The Ministry. Last week, we discussed “The Church and Its Mission,” which is both the macro global Church made up of all the micro community churches, which are composed of sanctified called-out believers. Therefore, the Church of Christ is called out and set apart for works that please God. With that as a foundation, “The Ministry” we’re talking about today is what you and I are called to do as members of the Church of Christ, even as we belong to our local assembly. So, what is your ministry? How do you know what it is? How do you measure its success? What do you do if you feel you don’t have a ministry? Maybe you feel too young or too old, or too weak or unqualified because you believe you have made too many mistakes in your life. That’s what we’re going to discuss today. God has a plan for your life, and we are going to learn how to discover what it is. Worship and study with us as we lift up our Savior and ask Him to help us find our place of ministry.

Episode Title: "Was the Church Hijacked After Constantine?"Series: Not Against Flesh and Blood – Ep. 1 Episode Description: Was the Church of Christ hijacked by Rome after Constantine? Or is that just a popular myth used to prop up modern interpretations? In this premiere episode of Not Against Flesh and Blood, we tackle one of the most common (and misleading) narratives in anti-Catholic circles—the claim that true Christianity disappeared after the 4th century. We explore the Council of Nicaea, the role of Constantine, the Arian controversy, and what the early Church actually believed. We also ask:Can we trust the Church that gave us the Bible? Was the Nicene Creed a corruption or a clarification? What do modern Evangelicals assume about history that might not hold up?This episode isn't about attacking people—it's about exposing flawed teaching with love, history, and Scripture. We challenge our listeners to dig deeper, ask harder questions, and examine whether the faith handed down for 2,000 years is really the "corrupt version"… or if maybe it just wasn't Protestant to begin with. If you've ever been told the Church was lost, hijacked, or replaced—this one's for you.
Today on Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we're hitting a hot topic: America jumping into the Israel-Iran war. And I'm just going to say it—I don't think we should've gotten involved. I've supported Donald Trump for years, but I think he got this wrong.Israel just said they didn't need us. This was their fight. Then suddenly, we're bombing a nuclear site and opening doors that didn't need to be opened. And of course, anyone who questions it gets labeled a “panican.” But guess what? The “panicans” are starting to look more and more like prophets, because now, sleeper cells are stirring, and American churches are already under attack. We don't need to be scared, we need to be wise. The Bible calls us to test the spirits, stay watchful, and seek peace when we can. (1 John 4:1, Romans 12:18). So let's talk about it honestly. Because loving your country (and even loving your favorite president) doesn't mean checking your discernment at the door and always being a yes-man.--https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee
The wilderness is one of the Bible's most profound and repeated images. It is not simply a geographic location; it is a symbol, a space where people are tested, where comforts are stripped away, and where God reshapes identity. For Israel, Elijah, John the Baptist, and even Jesus, the wilderness becomes a place of divine encounter and transformation. Our series, The Wilderness: Where God Forms His People, will explore how the wilderness is not only a part of the biblical story, but ours as well. This is part of the record that Ammon read. This record continues Abinadi's sermon to King Noah and his priests. When Abinadi finishes, the king sentences him to die. One of the priests was a young man named Alma who pleads for the king to spare Abinadi. This stunt resulted in Alma being cast out of the court and ultimately a fugitive for his life.King Noah binds Abinadi in prison for three days, then executes him by burning him. The excommunicated priest Alma writes Abinadi's sermon and uses it to disciple about 450 people in secret. Scripture Reading: Revelation 1:1-8 This marvelous book, with which the New Testament (and the Bible) ends, is what its name implies. It is the revealing, uncovering, displaying of the person of Jesus Christ, in all His glory. Though some of the details in Revelation, presented in the form of symbolism, are not always well-defined, the overall message of the book is clear. This book is the prophecy of the end of human history. The end of the age culminates with the second coming of Christ, the final judgment of all things, and the eternal state of all creation. John wrote this book "to the seven churches that are in Asia" (1:4). The number 'seven', occurring over 50 times in Revelation, seems to represent fullness or completeness, and so these seven churches are representative of the universal church of Christ in all ages. The first chapter of Revelation contains an extended, glorious description of Christ. It is so rich and comprehensive, John Walvoord wrote, "If no more had been written than that contained in this introductory portion of chapter 1, it would have constituted a tremendous restatement of the person and work of Christ such as found in no comparable section of Scripture" (Walvoord, The Revelation of Jesus Christ, 40). The book displays the ultimate and final victory of God over Satan … and righteousness over evil … and heaven over hell. To know that human history is moving according to an inexorable divine plan keeps us from deadening pessimism and works in our souls a calm and hope in the face of every earthly turmoil and heartache.

Full Text of ReadingsThe Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Lectionary: 169The Saint of the day is Saint Thomas MoreSaint Thomas More's Story His belief that no lay ruler has jurisdiction over the Church of Christ cost Thomas More his life. Beheaded on Tower Hill, London, on July 6, 1535, More steadfastly refused to approve King Henry VIII's divorce and remarriage and establishment of the Church of England. Described as “a man for all seasons,” More was a literary scholar, eminent lawyer, gentleman, father of four children, and chancellor of England. An intensely spiritual man, he would not support the king's divorce from Catherine of Aragon in order to marry Anne Boleyn. Nor would he acknowledge Henry as supreme head of the Church in England, breaking with Rome, and denying the pope as head. More was committed to the Tower of London to await trial for treason: not swearing to the Act of Succession and the Oath of Supremacy. Upon conviction, More declared he had all the councils of Christendom and not just the council of one realm to support him in the decision of his conscience. Reflection Four hundred years later in 1935, Thomas More was canonized a saint of God. Few saints are more relevant to our time. In the year 2000, in fact, Pope John Paul II named him patron of political leaders. The supreme diplomat and counselor, he did not compromise his own moral values in order to please the king, knowing that true allegiance to authority is not blind acceptance of everything that authority wants. King Henry himself realized this and tried desperately to win his chancellor to his side because he knew More was a man whose approval counted, a man whose personal integrity no one questioned. But when Thomas More resigned as chancellor, unable to approve the two matters that meant most to Henry, the king had to get rid of him. Soul Winning: Church, I can say with confidence, that God's will for all men, all women, for all of us, who will profess Christ as Lord, it's all about soul winning. Matthew 4:21-22 says, And going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. Have a Passion for Winning Souls: There should always be a willingness to seek after the richness of the word of God, to stir the hearts and challenge people to seek after Christ and His will for the human race. Everything that Christ had in mind, and everything that has to do with the church of Christ, it has to do with winning souls. Whenever people ask me, what is God's will for my life, my answer is, winning souls. Now this is a crazy response to following Jesus: Who in their right mind, would just up and quit their job, because some stranger said follow me. Not only did this stranger say follow me, but he also said follow me and I will make you a fisher of men. In the natural way of looking at this situation, yes it is crazy, weird, bizarre and stupid. But in the supernatural realm this was brilliant, magnificent, courageous and out right bold. When God asks us to do something, how come we don't respond as quickly to His come and follow me. Can you imagine what our lives would be like, if we responded to God just as fast, as James and John did? John 6:63 says "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.John 15:26 says "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

We'll discuss the revelations from 1834-1838 including the uncanonized Zelph Revelation. In 1834, Joseph Smith changed the name of the church from Church of Christ to Church of the Latter Day Saints. Check out our conversation... https://youtu.be/ogCyg94XghM Copyright © 2025 Gospel Tangents All Rights Reserved Except for book reviews, no content may be reproduced without written permission Uncanonized Zelph Revelation One particularly intriguing inclusion in Hocking's book, treated as a revelation although not canonized by the LDS Church today, is the account of Zelph. This account originates from Joseph Smith's history and details an experience while roving over the plains of the Nephites during Zion's Camp. Joseph Smith described discovering a skeleton. Through a vision or revelation, he understood that the person was "a white Lamanite, a large thick set man, and a man of God" named Zelph. Zelph was identified as "a warrior and a chieftain under the great prophet Onandagus who named from the eastern sea." The eastern sea is likened to Lake Ontario. The account describes Zelph's injuries, including a broken side caused by a stone from a sling and death from an arrow found among his ribs during a battle. Hocking notes that B.H. Roberts, in a book written before his involvement with History of the Church, also discussed Zion's Camp passing mysterious earth mounds, which Roberts suggested were related to the Nephites, Lamanites, or people of Jared. Hocking sees Joseph Smith's account of finding Zelph as a way of demonstrating a physical witness of the Book of Mormon peoples. Joseph Smith, having provided the spiritual testimony through the translated book, was now offering a physical witness for those on the journey. Those who went on Zion's Camp reportedly stayed faithful, potentially due to this physical witness. While the story of Zelph might seem "fantastical" to some, and perhaps for this reason it hasn't been canonized by the modern LDS church, Hocking includes it because Joseph Smith presented it as a revelation where the heavens were opened and the Almighty gave him understanding. Later Revelations and Profound Connections Moving into the later period (1838-1843), which includes the Nauvoo temple era, Hocking's book covers 20 revelations. He also includes statements from Joseph Smith that he treats "as if they're revelations because they're statements." One powerful example is found in what is now Section 128 of the Doctrine and Covenants. While in hiding, Joseph Smith wrote a letter to the church about baptisms for the dead. Within this letter, he includes what Hocking calls a "poetical utterance," similar to passages in Nephi or Lehi. Joseph Smith speaks of glad tidings from Cumorah and Moroni, the voices of Peter, James, and John on the banks of the Mississippi, the voice of the Heavenly Father, and significantly, the voices of Michael the archangel, Gabriel, Raphael, and "diverse angels from Michael or Adam down to the present time." These angels are described as declaring their dispensations, rights, honors, keys, majesty, glory, and priesthood power. Hocking found this section particularly striking after studying the Book of Enoch, which features conversations with Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. He posits that Joseph Smith is a "new Enoch," drawing parallels between their lives. Furthermore, Hocking discovered profound correlations between Joseph Smith's translation work and other ancient texts. He highlights the Joseph Smith Translation of Genesis 18, where three men who visit Abraham are identified as "angels which were holy men and they were sent after the order of God," in contrast to the King James Version which simply calls them "three men". Comparing this to the Book of Jasher (published 10 years after Joseph Smith's revelation), Hocking found a passage stating, "and the Lord appeared unto him at the plain and sent three of his ministering angels." While a debate continues about what constitutes doctrine versus policy in the restored Church of Christ, what role does its culture play, both good and bad?
