Understanding Wine: Austin Beeman's Interviews with Winemakers
Mac McDonald of Vision Cellars is not what you would expect from someone making some of California's best Pinot Noir. He is African-American in an industry where diversity is in the terroir and almost never among the winemakers. Mac speaks with a southern drawl, wears a farmer's hat, and sports blue jean overalls in a world of California's "Wine Country Casual." He is a boutique craftsman who makes his wine in the corporate beast that is Wagner Family Wines. This is my full interview from 2013, recorded at Walt Churchill’s Market in Maumee, Ohio. In the interest of supporting diverse voices in the wine business, I’ve assembled the entire interview here.

“Black Panther” takes center stage as film critic, Gary Cogill, calls it one of the more culturally important films of the past few years and wonderfully entertaining. Then it’s on to the Oscars and the possibilities for Best Picture.. Wine expert, Hayley Hamilton Cogill, pairs the popular Marvel super hero with a Mac McDonald favorite from “Vision Cellars,” along with a refreshing Chenin Blanc from South Africa, "Protea."
The Cogill’s explore a handful of big new releases, many of which Gary thinks will be this year's "Oscar" contenders arriving soon in local theaters including “Arrival" “La La Land,” “Loving” "Collateral Beauty,” and Ben Affleck’s "Live By Night.” Wine expert, Hayley Hamilton Cogill, pairs nicely with a favorite from Winemaker Mac McDonald of Vision Cellars, Argentine Malbec from Laura Catena, and wines from famed Hollywood Director, Francis Ford Coppola. Another “Perfect Pairing” as we get closer to this year's Academy Awards season. https://www.facebook.com/cogillconsulting https://twitter.com/garycogill http://www.cogillconsulting.com https://www.facebook.com/dallasuncorked https://twitter.com/DallasUncorked https://instagram.com/DallasUncorked
