We look ahead to a week 11 matchup with Maumee

Host Joe DeMare talks about the "Trapped in Maumee" movement. Homeowners have been hit with bills of $30,000 or more to replace their sewer lines, and been given only 90 days to do it. Joe talks about some financial strategies that could be used to soften the blow, but focuses on the necessity of stopping the flow of sewage into the Maumee. Then he reviews the new movie, "My Friend the Penguin." It's a heartwarming tale of a Brazilian fisherman who overcomes grief and depression when he rescues an oil soaked penguin, who then returns every year to spend the summer with him. First, why hasn't this person in particular received more criticism for the debacle in Maumee? 

Maumee, Ohio, winner of the 2024 Strongest Town Contest, is facing a big sewer infrastructure challenge. It needs to update its sewer system to comply with EPA regulations — an extremely large, expensive project. To handle this problem, the city is requiring residents who want to sell their homes to pay for the needed updates to their sewage systems, which is generating backlash from residents. In this episode of the Strong Towns Podcast, Chuck explains the history of sewer infrastructure, how the Clean Water Act affects cities and the very limited options that cities have to handle this kind of challenge. He also points out that the Strongest Town Contest is about celebrating cities that are working hard to improve, rather than finding cities that are perfect. Just because Maumee is facing this challenge does not mean that it's a failure — and it's not alone in this struggle, either. It's VERY crude, but I'm trying to offer solutions, which I haven't seen much of so far. Before that, Deadpool and Wolverine, but no spoilers - except the one that was intentionally leaked.  How are so many spending (we don't have) at these events!? Who's responsible for fixing the sidewalk? Depends on the tree. Building of the new jail has completely stopped.
