We’ll talk about art, history, travel, food, wine and everything in between. If you’re planning a trip, love the arts or just like random information, come join us for a Drunk & Cultured dinner party!
On this episode I'm joined by Russ, Jackie & Clark to discuss the history of the House of Gucci. The famous fashion house turned cautionary tale of why some families should absolutely not work together. We share a bottle of Villa Antinori Toscana from the Tuscany region and discuss our favourite things about Florence. Including some travel stories, must see attractions and our high's and (very few) lows of our trips. I also mention that one of my highs was a private cooking class with chef Gianluca Somigli - www.cookinginflorence.it/ @gianlucasomiglichef (Instagram) @drunkandculturedpod dandcpod@gmail.com
Today we're doing a little something different -- I share some beers with my friend Dave who has worked for the UN for the past several years. We talk travel tips, his favourite of the 130-something countries he's been to, best/worst airports and favourite places for food. Dave is truly a citizen of the world; from Canada, of Argentinian heritage and currently stationed in Gaza, with a home base in the United States. Grab a beer and enjoy a small selection of travel tales from easily the most well travelled person I know. Instagram: @drunkandculturedpod dandcpod@gmail.com
Today we're talking about the Italian tradition of aperitivo while enjoying (and sharing our recipe for) an Aperol spritz, the history of the Duomo Milan and one of the coolest statues I've ever seen; Saint Bartholomew Skinned by Marco d'Agrate. Instagram: @drunkandculturedpod dandcpod@gmail.com
On this episode we share a bottle of Gerard Bertrand's Cote Des Roses Rose wine and discuss him as a winemaker, the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, Narbonne and take a couple of quick detours into art movements we liked and/or disliked. Gerard Bertrand - https://en.gerard-bertrand.com/
You've probably heard of it, maybe celebrated it, but do you know why Cinco de Mayo is the holiday it has become? How about the margarita? It was America's most ordered beverage in the 2000s, have you heard a fable of its origin? Today we will be enjoying some margaritas while talking about the history of cinco de mayo and the inception of the margarita. I'll give you my favourite (stolen) margarita recipe and hopefully a few stories to go along with it. Grab your tequila, contreau, limes, ice and salt, we've got a mini for you! If you have any questions, comments, suggestions etc. email us at dandcpod@gmail.com or sauce us a follow at @drunkandculturedpod on instagram! Have fun & be safe! DISCLAIMER: This episode was originally recorded a few days ago and my hope was that I'd be able to get a quick, fun episode out for you guys in time for cinco de mayo — which we're still going to do. However, there was a tragic accident that happened in Mexico City on May 3rd and I wouldn't feel right jumping right into celebrations without taking a moment to mention it. On the evening of May 3rd an elevated section of the Mexico City metro collapsed, resulting in a subway car plummeting onto a busy street. As of this morning, Tuesday May 4th, 23 people have been pronounced dead and at least 79 others have been injured. The story is still developing, and rescuers are still looking for survivors. I want to acknowledge all of the first responders working hard, throughout the night to help with their rescue efforts and of course to extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones and those who are still waiting to hear from loved ones that haven't been located.
Grab a drink and join us for a Drunk & Cultured happy hour! We'll bring you a new art, history or culinary subject each week with pairings for those who want to drink (or eat) along. Come learn a little about a lot with us.
