After staying quiet while the world around her falls into disarray, Evanescence's Amy Lee has found her voice and she's going to use it for good. Amy Lee doesn't mince her words. That much becomes clear when, at the start of our interview, Kerrang! politely enquires as to whether we're distracting her from anything important. “You are – I was writing some lyrics!” she exclaims. “Garbage media!” Our feelings would be hurt were it not for one crucial thing: her barbed comment is delivered with a huge grin. And an even bigger eruption of laughter. “It's okay, I was kind of stuck anyway,” Amy smiles, reclining on a sofa in her Nashville home, nursing a cup of black tea. “I'm going to get back to it after this.”

Amy Lee recalls the process of Evanescence being apart and coming back together to quarantine and make music. Evanescence singer Amy Lee spoke to SiriusXM‘s “Debatable” on the Volume channel about the band's upcoming album, “The Bitter Truth” (BMG). The band's first collection of new original music in nine years, “The Bitter Truth” is being made available incrementally throughout 2020. “We're still writing, but we're also recording,” she said (see video below). “We got four songs down, and then we really had to just be apart. And that was kind of good, but kind of hard — we just worked remotely for a while. We got the American band members back together. After getting COVID tests and tour buses brought guys from both coasts, we all holed up in Nick Raskulinecz, our producer, his private studio, so we were quarantining together for a little over a month.
Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee talks with Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez about why she broke her silence on politics. She decided to use her voice. There are many differing opinions on how musicians should use their platform when it comes to discussing social issues and other problems in the world. Evanescence‘s Amy Lee has always tried to stay neutral, but 2020 has taken advantage. “I definitely still don't want to divide people. Our job as artists — to me — is to bring people together. Also it's to provoke thought,” Lee told Loudwire Nights. “You think about a concert, you think about bringing all those people into a room and making them look into their core and find similarities between each other, in a way. Because at the core of everything, we're not red, we're not blue, we're not anything. We're just people. And I want that.”
With Evanescence's new single, "Use My Voice," lead singer Amy Lee is encouraging all Americans to find their own voices and vote in the 2020 election. Lee shared it with the nonpartisan organization HeadCount, which is aiming to register 200,000 new voters this year. The song features Lee's fellow female rockers and will be on "The Bitter Truth," Evanescence's first full album in nine years. She speaks to "CBS This Morning" co-host Anthony Mason. Air Date: Aug 26, 2020
