Lee Klinger Lesser is our guest today. A graduate of the Hoffman Process, Lee has led Sensory Awareness somatic workshops worldwide for many decades. She teaches workshops to diverse groups, including veterans and wildland firefighters. Lee led and co-founded a non-profit organization to work with military veterans: Veteran's PATH. While she no longer leads this organization, Lee still works with Veterans, many of whom have graduated from the Hoffman Process. As a Hoffman grad, Lee is familiar with the "Left Road, Right Road" tool, a choice point that occurs many times each day of our lives. Lee speaks to how crucial presence is in choosing the steps of our lives and the direction our lives take. The question she often holds is, What does this moment ask of me? In each moment, we can ask ourselves this powerful question. It's a way to slow down and realize that everything that exists is here and only here. Each moment asks us to stop and sense our next step, or in Hoffman terms, whether or not we will go down the Left Road or Right Road. The capacity Lee has to express the power of an embodied life in words is extraordinary. Listen in as she offers an articulated path to conscious choice in each moment of our lives. She says, "If we keep offering what we can offer, and we have confidence in our own possibility to have impact and our capacity to respond, then we're not going to have regret. We may not be able to change things, maybe we're not going to be able to change what we want, but the way we're living and what we offer is coming from our own love and our own vitality and our own ability to respond." We hope you enjoy this deep and rich conversation with Lee and Drew. Content warning: This episode references suicide. If you or someone you know is considering suicide, you can call the US National Suicide Prevention Program at 800-273-8255 (or simply 988), or message the crisis text hotline at 741741. More about Lee Klinger Lesser: Lee studied Sensory Awareness for 33 years in the United States with Charlotte Selver, the founder of this practice. Through Return to Our Senses, she's been leading workshops since 1976, in English and Spanish. Lee sees over and over again the gift that this practice brings into the lives of so many people and into our world, which is in such great need of people living with awareness, resilience, and presence. She has reached into communities facing significant challenges to offer the resource and refuge of this practice. Lee led and co-founded a non-profit organization to work with military veterans: Veteran's PATH —Peace, Acceptance, Transformation, Honor. She led this work for 12 years, stepping away from a formal role in the organization in Fall 2019. Under new leadership, the organization dissolved in 2023. Lee still facilitates programs for veterans and honors this work as some of the most meaningful and life-changing work she has had the privilege to do. She witnessed veterans open to devastating experiences, face, and transform pain into new possibilities. Lee continues to be inspired by the profound commitment to service and the loving dedication to community that she experienced in her work with veterans. Lee's work and the Climate Crisis: Over the past six years, Lee has been helping to develop programs for Wildland firefighters on the front lines of the Climate Crisis. These firefighters are seeking support to meet the overwhelming challenges they are facing. Whether we realize it or not, we are all on the frontlines of the Climate Crisis. This has led Lee to develop programs to integrate the practice of Sensory Awareness with responding to the Climate Crisis. She is dedicated to bringing forward the core lesson she has learned from her years of practice: “There is no place to run, there is no escape from being with what is.” This is especially poignant and true as we realize that this Earth is the only home we have. We cannot run from what is happening.

Carol shares her journey from a people-pleasing, boundary-less upbringing to discovering the transformative power of the gospel later in life. Her testimony reveals how true freedom comes not from self-effort but from recognizing our complete identity in Christ.• Raised in a multi-generational Adventist home without healthy boundaries• Struggled with people-pleasing tendencies and inability to say "no"• Marriage deteriorated despite regular church attendance and ministry involvement• Experienced shocking moral failure that led to divorce and self-examination• Found practical help through therapy but still lacked spiritual power• Witnessed her daughter's dramatic transformation through understanding the gospel• Finally understood what "Christ in me, the hope of glory" truly means• Now experiences victory by asking Christ to manifest His character through her• Currently involved in music ministry and spiritual warfare at her church• Encourages others to surround themselves with people who understand gospel livingIf you're feeling powerless against sin, know that your source must be God, not yourself. When you declare and claim your identity as God's forgiven child in Christ, that's where the power is.
This episode of Across The Margin : The Podcast features an interview with Lee Klinger, Ph.D., an Independent Scientist and Consultant in Big Sur, CA currently working with the Department of Natural Resources of the Esselen Tribe of Monterey County, and with the Mutsun Costanoan leaders at Indian Canyon Nation. Since 2005 he has served as the director of Sudden Oak Life, a movement aimed at applying fire mimicry practices to address the problems of forest decline and severe wildfires in California. He has more than forty years of experience in forestry, plant and soil ecology, atmospheric chemistry, earth system science, and nature photography, and has held scholarly appointments at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, the University of Colorado, the University of Oxford, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Geological Society of London. His book — Forged By Fire : The Cultural Tending of Trees and Forests in Big Sur and Beyond — is the focus of this episode. Big Sur is home to many remarkable trees, including ancient groves of oddly shaped oaks and peculiar groupings and strange fire scars in old-growth redwoods, all dating from a time when the Esselen People were the sole human occupants of the region. Upon close inspection, these oddities are found to be the result of cultural burning and other tending practices by the Esselen. Now, however, too many of these living artifacts are dying and perishing in flames from the stresses imposed by our modern culture. By bringing together both Western science and Traditional Ecological Knowledge systems, the solutions to these problems become self-evident — either reintroduce cultural fire to the land or, if that is not possible, mimic its effects using materials and practices that emulate fire. In this episode hosts Michael Shields and Lee Kliger discuss the importance of using fire as a tool in landscape and forest management, the craft of fire mimicry, the benefits of marrying Western Science with Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), and so much more. WELCOME to the OFFICIAL episode 63! I was jumping ahead of myself last week when I thought I was recording 63, but in fact that was episode 62. Las week we talked about cash flow and budgeting, and how that sets the framework for one of the core assumptions for your retirement planning. Today, we are going to dive into how your cash flow needs impacts your rate of withdrawal, and ultimately how you should be giving yourself “raises” in retirement. We'll walk through the revolutionary study by Bill Bengen and his 4% rule. We'll also walk through some of the downsides of the 4% rule, and ultimately how this dovetailed into Guyton and Klinger's “Guardrail” study. We'll walk through the 4 different “Decision Rules” from the Guardrail study which creates the framework of what a safe rate of withdrawal is for your retirement and ultimately when you should give yourself a raise from your investment portfolio. I'll also touch on a couple of news stories that are relevant related to: DeepSeek and the selloff of Nvidia last week. Deferred Resignation Program (Federal Government's buyout program) and how this impacts Federal employees. I hope you enjoy this episode! Inflation has been impacting many industries from food prices at the grocery store and even affordable housing. In Central Pennsylvania, there's even a housing shortage. Jodi Diego of the National Association of Realtors says there's even a lack of homes to sell in the area. “We don't have enough homes to sell. Plus, you know, new construction. It's taking a awhile for us to get back up in running… We've got the buyers out there. We have sellers too, “said Diego. The baby boomer generation is also contributing to the housing shortage by staying in their homes longer, according to Diego. “Back a few years ago, when the interest rates were lower and people either refinanced or, you know, purchased at that lower price. Interest rate. For them to go ahead and put their home on the market today to try to buy something at a higher interest rate if they're going to take a mortgage on it. You know, it really has caused that trickle-down effect because baby boomers are staying in their home, we don't have their homes for resale, “said Diego. Tracy Klinger is the President of the Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors. Klinger says construction costs and materials are also adding to the shortage. “Construction rates have been down for years. I believe over the last decade, we have not seen the level of construction that we need to continue, to provide adequate, affordable housing, particularly for the workforce class. And just because I'm a numbers geek, to put things in perspective, depending on who you ask, a balanced market, meaning there's enough buyers and sellers on both sides. It's considered to be somewhere between 4 and 6 months, depending on whether you use the 4- or 6-month target. The last time we've been in a balanced market has been somewhere between 2015 and 2018. So, at a minimum, six years ago is the last time we were anywhere near a balanced market. Right now, compared to that, I consider six months to be balanced. Compared to that, we are running somewhere right around one and a half months supply of inventory. So, it's drastically lower than what we need, for the number of buyers out there, “said Klinger. Casablanca is one of the most celebrated Hollywood films of all time, its iconic romance enshrined in collective memory across generations. Drawing from archival materials, industry trade journals, and cultural commentary, in Immortal Films: "Casablanca" and the Afterlife of a Hollywood Classic (University of California Press, 2022), Dr. Barbara Klinger explores the history of Casablanca's circulation in the United States from the early 1940s to the present by examining its exhibition via radio, repertory houses, television, and video. By resituating the film in the dynamically changing industrial, technological, and cultural circumstances that have defined its journey over eight decades, Dr. Klinger challenges our understanding of its meaning and reputation as both a Hollywood classic and a cult film. Through this single-film survey, Immortal Films proposes a new approach to the study of film history and aesthetics and, more broadly, to cinema itself as a medium in constant interface with other media as a necessary condition of its own public existence and endurance. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Steve Klinger, Vice President of Product, joins the Moore's Lobby podcast to discuss how LightMatter is using silicon photonics to improve speed and reduce power consumption in AI data centers. With two previous $1B+ startups under his belt, Klinger knows a thing or two about identifying successful technology solutions to current industry challenges. While compute performance continues to grow rapidly, interconnect has not been able to keep pace. In this episode, Klinger explains how LightMatter's flagship product, Passage, creates a programmable optical fabric for the efficient interconnect of chiplets and other silicon ICs. Klinger explains that they are trying to solve the problem of efficiently accessing all of the bandwidth on one chip and sharing it with another chip. If they can improve the interconnect bandwidth density, it will allow performance scaling to continue increasing at the workload level. Klinger emphasizes, “There are data centers with hundreds of millions of dollars of GPUs sitting idle, waiting for the network topology or the interconnects to catch up.” So, join our host, Daniel Bogdanoff, in this deep dive into silicon photonics with Klinger. In this discussion, they address many fascinating topics, including: - What makes silicon photonics unique from traditional photonics? - The common traits shared by Klinger's previous $1B+ startups. - The many job openings available at LightMatter.

Have you ever had an ice-cold Athletic brew at the finish line of a race, trade show, or music festival? Maybe it was the eye-catching tent, bold branding, or friendly face behind the table that initially got your attention. You'd probably want to thank Michelle for helping to make that happen. She's in charge of getting our award-winning non-alcoholic brews all over the country and coordinating the logistics of introducing Athletic brews to millions of people through event sampling each year. As we gear up for event season, we wanted to give you a peek behind the scenes of some of the folks here at Athletic Brewing. We'll hear about how Michelle grew up playing soccer, worked on a dude ranch in Colorado, and fell in love with running, making it a large part of her career before Athletic Brewing. Next time you grab an Athletic brew at the finish line, give a cheers to the folks like Michelle who helped get it there!Find out where Athletic Brewing will be this summer by checking out our Events Calendar.

The #1 issue most people face when it comes to retirement is running out of money. Secondly, most people want to live the best retirement that they can. If there's anything left, they'll gladly give it to their children—but it doesn't need to be millions of dollars. Too many people are dying with too much money and never got to live out the retirement of their dreams. You've been saving your entire life. You shouldn't be scared to spend the money and fear it running out. So how do we make sure that doesn't happen? I'll share some of the common solutions—and our strategy at Fortress Planning Group—in this episode of Best in Wealth. [bctt tweet="The #1 issue most people face when it comes to retirement is running out of money. How do we solve for that at Fortress Planning Group? Learn more in episode #242 of Best in Wealth! #retirement #RetirementPlanning #WealthManagement" username=""] Outline of This Episode [1:07] Spending money in your retirement [2:49] The two central issues with retirement income [4:38] Solution #1: Purchase an annuity [5:50] Solution #2: Live off your dividends [8:00] Solution #3: The 4% rule [10:04] Solution #4: Guyton and Klinger's Guardrails [15:30] Utilizing risk-based guardrails Solution #1: Purchase an annuity An annuity has the potential to give you steady income until you die. Let's say you give $1 million to an insurance company in exchange for monthly payments. It might be $4,000-$6,000 per month. But when you pass away, the insurance company keeps your money. If the insurance company goes out of business, you lose those monthly payments. Many people still use annuities to fund their retirement. The biggest drawback is that most people don't think about inflation. That money won't go as far in 20 years. Solution #2: Live off your dividends Let's say you have $1 million and you decide to buy a company that's paying a nice dividend. Let's just say you're receiving a 5% dividend or $50,000 a year to live off of. But most people don't know that dividends can go down. Secondly, when the stock price fluctuates, your $1 million could lose value. Someone who invested in Wachovia Bank lost everything when they filed bankruptcy. The investment became worthless. [bctt tweet="Can you fund your retirement by living off your dividends? I share why this isn't the wisest decision (and what we do instead) in this episode of Best in Wealth! #retirement #RetirementPlanning #WealthManagement" username=""] Solution #3: Follow the 4% rule Stocks can gain value over their lifetime. The 4% rule means that if you have $1 million, you could live off of a 4% withdrawal from your portfolio the first year. Every year, you take an inflation adjusted raise. If inflation is 10%, you withdraw $44,000. If you do that, your purchasing power stays the same. Bengen looked at every 30-year period in history and 93% of the time, the 4% rule works. What about the other 7% of the time? What doesn't the 4% rule solve for? Solution #4: Guyton and Klinger's Guardrails Guyton and Klinger's Guardrails try to solve for both running out of money and dying with too much money. They posit that a 4% withdrawal can be too small of an amount. They usually start with withdrawals of 4.5–5%. How is their process different? If you start with $1 million and the portfolio goes to $1.2 million, you give yourself a raise as well as an adjustment for inflation. And if your portfolio goes down to $800,000, you have to be willing to take a pay cut until the portfolio gets back above your lower guardrail. When you take raises when your portfolio is doing well, it solves the issue of dying with too much money left. You rely on your guardrails to dictate what you do. But we don't entirely use this strategy—or any of these strategies—at Fortress Planning Group. What do we do?...
