This week we're talking about intrusive thoughts. We all have them- they are unwanted thoughts that can get sticky & we sometimes give too much energy to them. They can make us feel gross or tell us to do wierd and unwanted things. I talk with Lily Sais, whos a former school psychologist now full time mental health practitioner helping people with anxiety, about her experience and how she has not only learned to manage her own intrusive thoughts, but how she now helps others overcome them. I was able to sit down and have a very raw, real conversation with Dacey who is now 7 years sober. Dacey struggled with substance abuse starting in high school and it progressively got worse into college. We talk about how it started, how she felt when she was sober vs high or drunk, how it impacted her life and relationships, and how she started her sober journey. Dacey is now trained in somatics, trauma informed yoga, and is a life coach empowering other women and helping them release disempowering narratives that block their personal power and sovereignity. Hey glowing gang. Today my sister, Sarah Schuler, is joining me to have a really hard conversation about growing up in a home with domestic violence and addiction. We talk about how heartbreaking and anxious it felt as children to experience a parent this way, the truths we formed about ourselves and the world, how it's impacted us as mothers, the way we see ourselves now, the relationships we've involved ourselves in, and how it truly complicated our grief after the loss of our father. It's a complex issue and anyone who has experienced substance addiction, domestic violence, and/or loss--- i am very aware that we all have our own experiences that are unique to us. My hope in sharing our story is to help anyone else who has also walked through this know that they aren't alone. Your trauma does not define you, who you are, or what you're capable of. Love you guys. You can always find me here: Melissa
