In this episode, we're travelling the world, we're so late and Matt's no longer fancy. We're trying a smash hit from Australia, the Raspberry Smash Mars bar, which has a raspberry nougat and caramel. The Creeps also finally decide to try Dubai chocolate, the viral sensation of pistachio cream and crispy little kadayif strands inside of a chocolate bar. The Editor enjoyed, tune in to see what your favorite hosts thought. Note: we bought our Dubai chocolate at Hanlan's Meat Market and it was affordable if you just want to try some for the first time. Tune in to our 100th main episode for more on the market's killer menu!Trigger Warning: from about 5:00 on, Matt talks about fire, homicide involving a vehicle, and the loss of teen/young adult children. Graphic detail, discretion advised. This week, Matt is covering a local story of recent conviction and sentencing for a reckless driving and vehicular homicide case from 2024. The driver, Thomas Horner of PA, struck a car in road rage on Interstate 79, causing the vehicle to go off into the other lane, killing both passengers inside. Nothing else to say other than what Kelsey said "We don't do enough to end road rage, it's stupid, there's no point. We're all going to get there at the same time" Credit to Sam Kirk at wboy for covering the story wboy.com/news/crime/driver-found-guilty-in-monongalia-county-road-rage-incident-that-killed-2/

Thanks to everyone who tuned in! Free or paid subscribers? Join me for my next live video in the app. Gonna be a Trigger Warnings kinda take on old men with their fingers on THE Button. This week…Here's my speaking script from this live performance. Close to a transcript, but I changed a few lines on the fly… some even on purpose.Today I'm talking family, friends, love… not known as autistic “superpowers.” So let's start with a quick blow up of the whole fucking superpower thing.1. After the SecretI have strengths. Not one is my superpower.I have challenges. Not one is my kryptonite.I'm that kid in third gradeDropdropdroppingA mysterious blue crystalInto that test tube—Squealing in delightEvery time it explodes…In purple streams.I love cosplay. But I don't have to flyWear a maskOr sport a capeTo be autistic.Still…I get to be the heroor bald evil geniusof my own life.2. ShamelessFamily is freaking complex. For me? More disappointment, failure to meet expectations. Not being the son… or brother… the family ordered.Live long enoughYa get a lot right,Get a lot wrong.Get to knowWell enoughYa can't be a saintLurking in shadow…Living life perfectlyShameless.Shameless.Oh let me beShameless…No sun setsOn a painless life,So no moon shinesOn a stainless wife.Oh let me be… comeShameless.Scaling Mount MarcyThat night as Elvis died,Got branded a MountebankAs my sister grew colder.Stalking Death ValleySame sister… now dead… to meSame stars… chill my shouldersNow living life perfectlyShameless…Shameless.Oh let me beShameless…No peak capsAn aimless life,And no grave ever filledBy a blameless knife.Oh let me be… comeShameless…No mask hidesThe pain in life,So no words canExplain my fight. So, let me Be… comeShameless.I call this one it burns. I didn't write it about autism. But families face terrible trials. This was my response to one.3. This one's rough. And long. And complex. It may not need a T.S. Eliot pretentious footnote. But I try to intertwine family, control, and religion. And real events from the winter of 97-98. When the Hale-Bopp comet was fading in the Northern New York skies. And the memory of the Heaven's Gate suicide cult was still fresh in the national mind. This is a hybrid piece. To use my words… to find my words.“I'm trying to remember all you guys'… um, ya know, everybody's names….”“Oh, no worries. You're good. We really all should have name badges.”I take another beat. To switch appropriate gears.“You know. The autism thing. I have this face and name thing. It's weird… but I can't remember faces.”Awkward, awkward pause. If you're listening, if you're reading…Let me try to take you inside. My being…What's that like? I only see… Well, words fail me.Take a visit to Walmart. Just a sea of faceless ghosts. Folks I greet, “I know I know you… I have this thing. Can you tell me your name?”Embarrassment. You guys? I guess it's a job. But to us? You're… well, friends. It means something to me. To learn your name. To… know you.”“Oh.” Confused, she pauses. “It's really ok. We know you and your wife. We get it.”“You know?” I'm urgent. I want her to get… the weight of it. “It's not for you. It's for me. It means something to me. To remember your names. And put them with your faces. To be friends.”I flash on all those parental commands to “make friends.” Then say, “I just won't get it right away. But I want to enjoy… doing it.”Silence. Awkward. But intimate.I stammer. “Are you… are you, Ari?” When confused, my go-to fallback is details.“No, she's the short blond one.” She waves her right hand about shoulder high.“I know Kensington… cuz well I walked in on her anaphylactic…. Um, allergy attack. Over in the Dollar Aisle."“Yeah. She's the short one with black hair.” She gestures with her right hand, just a hair lower. “And I'm Cyndi.”We laugh. Together. She mentions the name tags again. I make reassuring noises.“That's Windy, right?”“No.” She laughs. “Cyndi… Just with the I and Y reversed.”“Oh, thank god. For a moment I misremembered again. Thought you were named after a sappy 60s song.”She laughs, easy… again. “No. Never. Not that..”We share a wink. A nod.The doors slide. I walk outside.“Cyndi. Just with the I and Y reversed."A swirl of flesh-colored fog. Framed by glasses. And twisted brown hair on her head.About… yay… tall.#AutisticAF Out Loud Newsletter is a reader-supported publication. Trigger warning: discussion of seggsual assault near the end In this episode, Charna interviews Ariella Daley, a seasoned dream worker, animist, and beekeeper with over 15 years of experience. Ariella shares her fascinating journey into beekeeping and dream work, influenced by a blend of naturalism from her mother and mysticism from her father. She recounts a significant experience where wild bees moved into her home, deeply intertwining her dream work with her beekeeping practice. Ariella and Charna discuss the profound healing and intuitive lessons bees can impart, the importance of intentional dreaming, and the animist worldview that sees life and consciousness in all things. Ariella also touches on her personal healing journey through profound experiences with snakes and bees, and later discusses her recent experience of seggsual assault and how dream work has been a vital resource in her healing process. Triggers after betrayal can feel sudden, overwhelming, and impossible to control. But what if they're not signs that you're broken, but signals from your nervous system that you still need safety, care, and attention? In this episode, we break down what a trigger actually is (spoiler: it's not drama), how it works, and why you don't need to be trigger-free to be healing. Whether you're rebuilding with your partner or learning to trust yourself again, this episode offers compassion, clarity, and practical steps for staying grounded, even when your body's screaming otherwise. Key Points / Takeaways: A trigger isn't weakness, it's your body remembering pain and asking: “Are we safe yet?” The spiral happens not from the trigger itself, but from the story we tell ourselves after. You can feel a trigger without obeying the fear it brings. Triggers soften when you respond with awareness, not avoidance. Practical steps: Pause. Name it. Locate it in the body. Choose a response that honours you. Healing isn't about eliminating every trigger, it's about learning to meet them with gentleness and self-trust. In the conclusion of the 3 part series THE GILGO BEACH KILLER: HOUSE OF SECRETS from Peacock (and 50 Cent?!) Katie and Jake return to the Rex Heuerman case one last time. In episode 3 "The Good Wife" a second serial killer has decided to enter the chat. Plus, more women are identified which brings more charges against Rex and widens both the timeline and search area of possible victims to a terrifying degree. And of course, that basement of secrets just gets darker and creepier every time. But...is there some light of hope peeking through a floor board? Maybe so, as we get more interviews with the family and friend whose lives will forever be changed. Thank you so much to Jake for his thoughtful coverage of a difficult case! TRIGGER WARNING for this series: The crimes against these women are of a sexual nature and the series contains details that may be gruesome. It's the halfway point in discussing the new PEACOCK limited series THE GILGO BEACH KILLER: HOUSE OF SECRETS. We learn some history, meet some friends and get to know the family behind the architect who is the primary suspect of an ever increasing number of murders. Some secrets are uncovered, but the biggest ones seem to be locked behind one or possible two (!!) BIG metal doors... TRIGGER WARNING for this series: The crimes against these women are of a sexual nature and the series contains details that may be gruesome. Dateline is on summer break. So, Jake joins Katie for a couple of cheat dates on a new PEACOCK limited series (that's not Dateline) about a very big case with a looooong history. A Long Island history.... We will be delving into the world of a modern day serial killer who was active in New York for decades. THE GILGO BEACH KILLER: HOUSE OF SECRETS divides the story into three parts. In Episode 1 "The Monster Among Us" Jake and Katie are learning about the start of the investigation leading to the dramatic arrest in midtown Manhattan of a highly elusive suspect. So, what went wrong? What took police so long? Why is a man named Jimmy throwing a pineapple shaped wrench into the works? And what in the world have we gotten ourselves into... TRIGGER WARNING for this series: The crimes against these women are of a sexual nature and the series contains details that may be gruesome. Please take care and keep this in mind if you decide to view the series on PEACOCK. Official Description from PEACOCK: A look inside the home of the suspected Gilgo Beach killer for the first time, where never-before-heard disclosures from his own family unravel a chilling portrait of a man accused of living a double life.
