Louder Now Episode #94. *TRIGGER WARNING. WE TALK ABOUT SUICIDE IN THIS EPISODE. A combination of reflection of the past and how Jared still has passive suicidal thoughts today and how using the phrase: "I want to live!" has really helped solidify the fight. The charge of wanting to live implies showing up for people and being present with them even in your pain. To be alive means you have to take changes and risk rejection. It means you might fail and it also means you might succeed. The idea of self care and self love is all over Instagram and social media and yes, we need self love but we also need vision. Proverbs 29:18 " Where there is no vision, the people perish; but happy is he who keeps the teaching." And the vision we have for our futures gets tested when we have these suicidal thoughts. Hope you can find comfort and find people to talk to in the process of having these thoughts. Saying things out loud helps us get the help we need. Find a trusted friend. Trigger Warning, this case involves a child In January of 1992 one of the most horrific murders I have read about to date was committed to a young girl who was only 12. The perpetrators of this crime were all kids as well, four of them ages 15-17. This murder was brutal, horrific and the catalyst to it is pathetic, something so ridiculous took this girl away at such a young age. (Trigger warning: infant loss, heart defect). Thanks for joining us this week as we discuss a heavy topic: organ transplant discrimination in the Down syndrome community. This topic was born out of a recent tragedy with the passing of Zion Sarmiento, who was born with DS. Zion passed away on October 8th, just a week shy of 4 months old, after being denied a heart transplant by multiple hospitals. And the reasons they were denied are heart breaking. The truth is that many medical professionals, and society as a whole, do not see the worth and value of people with Down syndrome. But thankfully, the National DS Society is working hard to change that. And today, we're telling you all the ways to take action, how to support Zion's family, and what we can do everyday to shift the narrative. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sarmiento family. -- Read the article about Zion Sarmiento from livenation.org Check out the Facebook page: Zion's Army Learn more about the topics discussed today: Nondiscrimination in Organ Transplantation Laws & Toolkit from the National DS Society Click HERE to take action! Trigger Warning: some discussion of eating and body image issues, porn, and other sexual conversation. Following the Bar Mitzvah of their middle child, and in the midst of receiving results from their 16-year-old's neuropsychological examination, Adam and Danielle are feeling like they are fully immersed in the world of teenagers and figuring out how to best support and guide them through this uncertain time. The two of them recall their own past as teenagers, and the ways in which they were rebellious, promiscuous, and "tough" in certain ways. What nickname, looking back, would Danielle give herself, what recurring dream did Adam have as a teenager? Who were their role models? What did their parents do really well? What do they wish they had been told/taught that they weren't? Stay tuned for episode two in a few weeks when the two discuss more about parenting teenagers. To have conversations like this one with your partner, purchase the Date Night Questions ebook. ***Volume Warning 28:40-29:25*** [TRIGGER WARNING; Gunshots, Destruction, Themes of Despair, Drowning] “Ain't never seen Kraken actually eat a person. But I've seen sailors torn, limb from limb. I've seen them drowned, or beaten against the ship-deck until there weren't anything left but a chunky red paste. Kraken don't attack ships out of hunger or self-defense; they do it because they hate people, because they don't want us in their territory, and mostly because they can.” -Lucky Sevens Cast: Zoé Jackson (Narrator), Evan Ackley (Jesse Nkansa, The Devil Jonah), Patrick Keeffe (Wayland Greywall) Music: Arcane Anthems (https://www.patreon.com/arcaneanthems) [The Writer's Room, La Rosa Blanca] ASKII (https://askii.bandcamp.com/) [Abyss of Souls, Sails, Reach] Serpent Studios - Alexander Nakarada (https://www.serpentsoundstudios.com/) [Mysterious Adventure] Ansia Orchestra (https://ansiaorchestra.com/) [Helden Streben Nicht] Adrian Von Ziegler (https://adrianvonziegler.bandcamp.com/) [Deathless, My Everything] feat.
