Trump is signaling a major arms deal with Turkey — even as the IDF reveals how a Hamas headquarters operating out of Istanbul has been coordinating terrorist attacks inside Israel. Meanwhile, explosive allegations suggest Qatar has secretly supported Iran economically and militarily while publicly playing mediator, and New York's Democratic primaries show DSA-backed candidates making alarming gains for the Jewish community. On the bright side, Israel's GDP has surged from $513B to $719B since 2023 while Iran's has cratered from $421B to $300B. Nvidia just announced a major new office complex in Yokneam as part of a plan to become Israel's largest private employer, Morocco became the first Arab nation to join Trump's stabilization force in Gaza, and new OSINT raises serious questions about who is really running Iran. The truth about what's happening in Israel — without the propaganda. Youth in Crisis: What To Do When a Teen or Adolescent Wants To Hurt Themselves

A Little Help For Our Friends

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 25, 2026 67:19

This episode describes how to respond when a teen, adolescent or young adult says they want to hurt themselves or kill themselves. It's horrifying when someone as young as 12-20 years old says they want to take their own life. When a teen or young adult confesses thoughts of hurting themselves or even hints at a plan, panic often kicks in...but what you do next can mean the difference between life and tragedy. In this episode, Dr. Kibby describes how you can transform fear into effective, life-saving support. If you're a parent, clinician, educator, or anyone caring for at-risk youth, this episode will change your perspective on how to handle these terrifying moments with compassion, clarity, and confidence. In this honest conversation, you'll discover why traditional reactions often do more harm than good and how shifting from control to understanding can unlock trust and safety. Dr. Kibby shares insights from her nearly lifelong work with mental health crises as well as adolescent and family Dialectical Behavior Therapy expert Dr. Marcus Rodriguez. Drawing from what she learned from Dr. Rodriguez, she emphasizes the importance of treating the whole family and system instead of isolated individuals. You'll learn why vague answers from teens are actually a sign of trust-building, not apathy or indifference, and how impulsivity heightens the risk of dangerous behaviors that require immediate, delicate intervention. We break down practical, step-by-step frameworks for assessing suicidality, from asking direct questions about plans and access to means, to understanding the importance of safety measures like environment restriction and involving the support system. You'll hear specific scripts designed to validate pain without validating harmful coping strategies, and how to balance genuine empathy with concrete safety protocols. The core message: you're not just stopping a moment of crisis- you're working with the teen, their family, and their community, to understand their pain and help them find hope. Interpersonal triggers like breakups, bullying, and social rejection are particularly devastating for teens, and how they differ from adult experiences. Dr. Kibby describes how you can meet teens where they are, by respecting their vague answers, impulsive actions, and emotional intensity, and why working systemically is essential for lasting safety. Remember: Asking directly about suicide does not plant the idea; it saves lives. Whether you're facing an immediate crisis or working to prevent one, this episode is your essential guide to understanding and intervening with care, respect, and hope.Trigger warning: Sensitive topics discussed include self-harm, suicidal ideation, and family trauma. If you're involved with teens or young adults, or if you simply want to learn how to support someone in their darkest hour, this episode is a must-listen. In this episode of the Exploring More podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings continue their conversation around The Life You Built by Scott Jennings, diving deeper into one of the most important realities of spiritual formation: growth is cyclical, not linear. Many of us expect healing and transformation to happen in a straight line. But what if the journey actually looks more like a wave? Awareness. Breakthrough. Peace. Trigger. Old patterns resurfacing. New awareness. Deeper surrender. Renewal. Michael and SJ explore how the false self and true self continue to emerge throughout life, especially in our closest relationships. They discuss the challenges of marriage, recurring conflicts, and the temptation to interpret, predict, and protect ourselves rather than remain open, curious, and compassionate. The conversation reveals how the false self operates through fear and self-protection, while the true self invites us into trust, presence, and connection. The episode also continues the discussion on the Enneagram as a tool for understanding motivations, emotional patterns, and relational dynamics. Rather than serving as a label, it can become a map that helps us recognize why we react the way we do and where God may be inviting deeper freedom. At the heart of the conversation is a powerful reminder: healing is not a one-time event. It's a lifelong process of learning to "ride the wave"—returning again and again to awareness, compassion, and truth. If you've ever felt discouraged by recurring struggles or wondered why old patterns keep resurfacing, this episode offers hope. Growth isn't about never falling back. It's about learning how to return.

What do you say when “How are you?” feels impossible to answer? This week I'm joined by Erin Clark, whose husband Greg died suddenly from a heart attack in 2021 after more than 30 years of marriage. One moment they were enjoying a simple family dinner with their children, and the next Erin found herself performing CPR on the man she'd loved since she was 19.In this deeply moving conversation, Erin shares the reality of losing her person overnight, the guilt she carried after falling asleep in a different room for the first time in three decades, and the crushing loneliness of learning to navigate a world that no longer made sense. We talk about the strange business of grief, the impossible task of telling your children their father has died, and why the second year can sometimes feel even harder than the first.Erin also shares the story behind How's the Weather?, a simple but powerful question she created when she realised she no longer knew how to answer “How are you?”. Together we explore the idea that grief, like the weather, is constantly changing. Storms give way to sunshine, only for clouds to roll back in again. This is a conversation about enduring love, surviving the unsurvivable, and finding your way back to life one tiny step at a time.If you're currently in the thick of grief, consider this your reminder that surviving today is enough.

The film was the second of four in which Teshigahara would collaborate with writer Kōbō Abe.*  The Face of Another rode the coattails of Woman in the Dunes but was nowhere near as successful. Although both films have a very bleak undertone, The Face of Another feels more jarring and less abstract in its confrontations. The story is of a man horribly disfigured from an accident in the lab where he works. He manages to find a possible solution to the isolation and desperation he experiences when he is given the opportunity to have a new face with which to navigate life. The story has many philosophical themes set in a Japan that is still wrangling with its post war cultural identity.  Thankfully I have managed to procure two big brained and generous guests! Roger Luckhurst is a Professor at Birkbeck, University of London. He has written/edited numerous articles and books on cultural history and film. Jennifer Coates is a Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Sheffield. She has written extensively about Japanese cultural history and cinema and is the President of the British Association of Japanese Studies. During the intro to the show I mention a video essay that I watched during research for the film which I found very interesting. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yarOXWeZlzY Although this is not directly relevant to the film, one of the earliest shots is an x-ray of a skull in conversation. This is reminiscent of the very early 1996 film usually known as Macintyre's X-Ray Film.  Just a small historical film curiosity which you might be interested in. In the quiet borough of Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, the days leading up to Christmas in 1994 should have been filled with the familiar comforts of the season. Instead, an unsettling silence settled over a neighborhood when a young mother and her infant son seemingly vanished without a trace. Their home held troubling clues, their car would soon be found abandoned nearby, and a community accustomed to knowing its neighbors suddenly found itself gripped by fear and uncertainty. As investigators searched for answers, rumors spread through the ornamented streets and suspicion seemed to fall in every direction. What happened inside that small Pennsylvania town would become one of the region's most haunting mysteries: a case marked by compulsion, secrets, and a trail of evidence that only seemed to raise more questions. Tonight, we follow the twists and turns of an investigation that would captivate the Lehigh Valley for years, and uncover a story far darker than anyone could have imagined.Trigger warning: This case involves violence against a child under one.Sponsors:Rula patients typically pay $15 per session when using insurance. Send us Fan MailThe internet loves a clean villain and a clean victim, but real life is never that simple. We start with the kind of chaos only No Advisory can pull off, then jump into Pride Month talk that turns into a real question about allies, belonging, and why people show up when the vibes are good but disappear when it's time to stand for something. From there, we break down two stories that hit opposite nerves: a graduation celebration that goes viral for the “wrong” reason, and a devastating shooting case where a 14-year-old is chased and killed over a suspected theft, followed by a not-guilty verdict. We debate what accountability looks like when rules are unfair, when the system feels rigged, and when the public decides your whole story based on a clip. Along the way we touch hip hop culture, including reactions to a Jay-Z freestyle, and we unpack celebrity news with the kind of blunt honesty you expect from us.Then Lex Rated brings “Trigger” with a topic that gets everybody heated: when does identity stop being part of your story and start becoming an excuse? We get into locus of control, confirmation bias, self-serving bias, and how social media rewards victim-hood more than recovery. Finally, we're joined by Kutta Kay from Zeus Network's Baddies Gone Wild for a behind-the-scenes talk on what's real, what production can influence, how editing shifts public perception, and how fast life changes once people recognize your face.If you laughed, got mad, or felt called out, share this with a friend and tell us where you land. Based on true events.   In August of 1976, three teenagers driving an isolated road outside Whitehall, New York came face to face with a seven-foot creature with glowing red eyes. They did what no one in a monster story is supposed to do — they went straight to the police. And within days, the police saw it too. Trained officers. State troopers. Spotlights. Official reports. What happened on Abair Road turned a tiny Adirondack village into the Bigfoot Capital of the Northeast — a town that eventually passed a law making it illegal to harm the creature. But not everyone who met the Beast of Whitehall drove away with a story. Locals still speak of the ones the woods kept — and of a rifle found leaning against a tree, unfired. Join Carman Carrion for the true story of the Abair Road incident, the police officer who couldn't pull the trigger, and the town that chose to protect its monster.   #Whitehall #NewYork #Bigfoot #Sasquatch #AbairRoad #DestinationTerror #Cryptid #BigfootSighting #Adirondacks #BigfootCapital #BeastOfWhitehall #CryptidEncounters #TrueHorror #RealTerror #ParanormalPodcast #HorrorPodcast #DarkHistory #UnexplainedMysteries #CreepyHistory #Eeriecast #CarmanCarrion #TrueStories #Unexplained #MonsterSighting #PoliceReport #SasquatchFestival #HauntedNewYork #Folklore #ListenNow #Spooky   EXPLORE MORE SPINE-CHILLING CONTENT: Freaky Folklore: https://www.eeriecast.com/podcasts/freaky-folklore Carman's Crypt (Original Horror): https://www.carman-carrion.com/ Deadly Intent (True Crime): https://www.carman-carrion.com/ Destination Terror: https://www.eeriecast.com/podcasts/destination-terror SUPPORT THE SHOW: Patreon (Ad-Free + Bonus Content): https://www.patreon.com/c/CarmanCarrion Buy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/carmancarrion CONNECT WITH CARMAN: Website: https://www.carman-carrion.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@CarmanCarrion Twitter/X: https://x.com/CarmanCarrion Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/carmancarrion/ SUBSCRIBE & REVIEW: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0uiX155WEJnN7QVRfo3aQY iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/freaky-folklore/id1550361184 Your support helps bring you more terrifying tales. Kennedy feared an invasion would trigger a Soviet takeover of West Berlin. He successfully hid the crisis from the media for a week to weigh his options. Choosing the term "quarantine" to avoid a legal act of war, he bought critical time. Meanwhile, Khrushchev fell into a panic in Moscow, fearing an imminent U.S. strike and even considering a false-flag claim that the missiles were under Cuban control. (4)1920
