We are two undergraduate students at Washington University in St. Louis who aim to showcase the awesome people we share this campus with. Blake Miranda and Desi Isaacson
Patrick Baratta is Desi's friend from Florida, who met Blake during a high school summer program. He set the two up as roommates, so despite the fact that he does not attend WashU, we thought it was only fair to let him appear on the pod. He talks about meeting and becoming friends with Blake, his role in his high school friend group, and how bad he is at fantasy football.
In this episode Uncle Joe's volunteer Lizzi Kehoe joins the podcast along with her roommate Jinhee Kim. We discuss what Uncle Joe's is and the intense training volunteers must go through, and how students on campus can take advantage of the resource. As always, we get sidetracked and discuss our own forms of 'self-care' and other projects we have undertaken on campus.
Senior News Editor of Washington University's independent newspaper Student Life, Danielle Drake-Flam joins the podcast. We (Danielle and Desi) talk about how we got started at the paper, and some of our highlights from reporting stories on campus. We talk about what we hope to do in the future and discuss the importance of journalism on campus and why it's vital that people keep reading Student Life. Thanks to Danielle for taking the time to come on the podcast. If you want to check out her work, she has a hilarious website she made in high school (and clearly hasn't updated). Unfortunately, I was not able to track down her EP, but this is definitely the next best thing. https://danielledrakeflam.weebly.com
For our first guest, we bring on our suitemate from our freshman year, Nick Blenko. We re-live some highlights from our first few weeks at school, our first impressions of one another, and how we all got to know each other. Nick discusses joining an acapella group, a fraternity (which he is now president of), and the ups and downs of having a sibling on campus. Thanks to Nick for being our first guest on the pod.
In our first full episode, we explore the different food options available to us as students at WashU. First, we do a draft of our top 5 entree options on campus if we had to live on just those for a whole year. We then discuss our favorite spots on The Loop just off campus to grab a bite, before finishing it off with our favorite places to try when trying to escape the WashU bubble. Special thanks to Erin Buechele for the ad read and Brandon Wilburn for the 'Lien 2232' artwork.
We both introduce who we are and where we come from. Blake is a Business school student from Dallas, Texas, and Desi is an English major from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. We talk about some of our St. Louis highlights, then talk about what we want this podcast to be. We want to showcase Washington University in St. Louis and some of the awesome people we share this campus with. We want to bring on guests doing cool things in the community, but also talk about our experiences as undergrads. We hope people both inside and outside the WashU community will enjoy tuning in.
