So what's the difference between joining a sorority or joining another campus organization?We're led to believe that joining a sorority prohibits us from joining any other campus organizations, but in reality, being a part of a chapter only empowers us further to be leaders in all kinds of communities on our campuses. What a sorority does is give us lifelong friendships, leadership experiences, and a sisterhood built on values we share rather than interests. Today's episode features a perfect example of the blend between both types of involvement with our guest, Ashley Beers.Throughout Ashley's time in college, she served as the vice president of recruitment and later chapter president, while also being a leader in ROTC, mock trial, and multiple other campus organizations. Ashley tells the story of her sorority journey and how valuable it's been not only in her chapter president role, but in her involvement all across campus. Ashley helps us understand the importance of being involved with both values-based sorority chapters and interest-based campus organizations.

Earlier in Aliza's career she served as the YU Director of Alumni Engagement, Assistant Principal at Central, Yeshiva University High School for Girls, Director of Student Life at Stern College, and as the Director of Jewish Service Learning for the University, where she built the service learning curriculum and established chessed missions around the world. Aliza is a member of the inaugural Wexner Field Fellows program through the Wexner Foundation. She has spoken worldwide in synagogues, community centers, and schools about leadership, education, faith, prayer and issues related to the contemporary Jewish family, dating, infertility, surrogacy and family, and is a sought-after consultant on surrogacy. Aliza holds a BA in Judaic Studies from Stern College, and a Master's in Social Work from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work and is now a doctoral candidate at Wurzweiler. The man known to many students as Dean Dana or Dr. Dana retired in January after four decades of service to the University of Maine community. Robert Dana, former vice president of student life and inclusive excellence, guided students along their journeys through kindness, care and compassion. For nearly a quarter of the university's existence, Dana helped students through the highs and lows of being a college student and earning a degree — celebrating the joys and working through the challenges and tragedies.
