Music Talks: Discussions on Music Education

Awaiting all of us at the end of our Music Education paths are both the internship and the eventual job interview! During this episode, we will review advice from recent music education interns on how to survive and thrive student teaching. Both in our time as collegiates and in-service music educators, the relationships we form with peers, students, parents, and administrators will play a huge role in our success. With the rapid outbreak of COVID-19, the world is experiencing extreme societal changes, which has affected how people communicate, work, and teach. During these unprecedented times, the folks at "Music Talks" have decided to cover an issue that is on every educators' mind - virtual education. This episode's topic: teaching and learning music during COVID-19, and using virtual spaces in order to do so. This episode will host a virtual panel of the outgoing and incoming Executive Board members for Florida NAfME Collegiate, as well as feature audio from a conversation with composer Libby Larsen.

According to the National Association for Music Education, music is for all students, regardless of their abilities. This episode, Florida NAfME Collegiate members host discussions on special music education. What it is, who it's for, and what it can look like in our future classrooms. Guest speakers include Dr. Alice-Ann Darrow from Florida State University, and Mr. Lee Commander from Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL.

Advocating for any cause can seem like a daunting task, but, in reality, it can be as simple as having a conversation. This episode, Florida Collegiate NAfME members and guest speakers will host discussions on advocacy in music education. What advocacy is, the importance of legislation in relation to music education, and how music students can be involved to help their future profession.
