Fretless guitar pioneer NED EVETT is taking his new album — and his new signature-model Aluminati aluminum-necked fretless guitar — to Europe to rock just about every big city you can name over there in support of JOE SATRIANI and STEVE VAI's “SatchVai Band: Surfing with the Hydra” continent-spanning tour. And in this interview/jam, Ned shares exactly how he'll approach his solo sets opening for the two superstar guitar heroes. He also details songs from “Strange Kind of Freedom” (the aforementioned new album) as well as dives into his many influences — from rock to Indian ragas to folk to life-changing tunes by the Who and Robert Johnson — and relives what it was like to have guitar magician ADRIAN BELEW produce one of his albums. This episode is presented by Guitar Player and GuitarPlayer.com, and hosted by JUDE GOLD
Rob, Patrick, and Chia have traveled to PAX East, though only two of us actually spent time wandering around the show floor before sitting down to record an in-person version of Remap Radio. (We also recorded a video version that'll be released soon.) But Patrick and Chia played a bunch of very cool games, including Demonschool, Fretless, that grimdark Pac-Man game, Aksun, A Good Night's Rest, and more. Plus, an exciting brand-new segment: buying or selling.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Fretless guest on The Stew. Karrnnel Sawitsky and Trent Freeman - one-half of The Fretless join us. Saturday in the first hour. Their album - Glass Wing is brilliant. With 3 songs cowritten and sung by Madeleine Roger. Classically trained, raised on rock, jazz, blues, folk and heritage roots, they take all those influences and combine them into a sound unlike any other group. They take 100 year old shanty's and reshape the song without losing the original melody so it can last another 100 years. In Glass Wing, they write all their own tunes. Three co-written with Madeleine Roger. There is such joy in hearing violins, violas and cellos driving the beat where normally the drums and bass would be. Impressive my friends. Very impressive. Have a listen to Pipe Dreams! The Queen Nancy - named after a car and a make-believe BC Ferry. Icarus - a Madeleine beauty Or the lead track Lost Lake. This marks a new chapter The Fretless. With Lights, sound and stage design created especially for this album, these songs and this tour. I've been waiting for new music from Winnipeg's Madeleine Roger for four years. That's how long it's been since I discovered her voice, playing and gifted songwriting. Maddy took a solo career detour through the stellar chops of The Fretless. They needed an exceptional vocalist who understood and was comfortable with, classical music. Madeleine needed a different “band” to shine with. Perfect! So here we are in early September and both artists are releasing new albums. Madeleine has just released NERVE a new album filled with tales of lost love and found freedoms. Produced by Josh Kaufman (Anais Mitchell, Bonnie Light Horseman) Recorded in four days. They threw away the headphones and sat 8 feet apart..making music. There are actually four extra songs waiting to be released. I am here to state – in my opinion - an exceptional new star has risen – her name is Madeleine Roger. Enjoy the complete interview and the music included. www.madeleineroger.com

I have been a big fan of Michael Pinkerton and his Facebook group, 'Fretless Cigar Box Guitars'. He is what I would refer to as an inspiring and humble master builder. He uses hand tools to craft the most wonderful menagerie of incredible exotic and blues 'n' roots instruments. Darren and I were both gob smacked by his builds, some of which I have uploaded to the group. Please consider joining THE CIGAR BOX GUITAR BUILDER group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1293715283982291/ and of course the FRETLESS CIGAR BOX GUITARS group https://www.facebook.com/groups/208729153079436/ Thanks again to my friend Darren for joining me on this CBG extravaganza. According to the National Institute of Justice, the majority of missing person cases are solved and the majority of the cases solved bring victims back alive. In 2012, for example, around 659,000 of the 661,000 missing persons cases reported that year were resolved by the end of the year. But what happens when cases aren't solved within a year? Or five years? Ten years? What happens when a case has been cold for 45 years? Today we are discussing one such case. It is the case of a young man, the family who maintained that he would come home, and a niece who decided to fight for a resolution. His name is Brian Vargo. This is his story. We were privileged in being able to speak with Brian's niece Amanda, the daughter of one of Brian's older brothers, for this episode. Although Amanda never met her uncle, she was able to tell us about his upbringing and personality based on her own research. If you have information about the disappearance of Brian Vargo please contact the Austin Police Department's missing persons unit at 512-974-4123. This episode is sponsored in part by EveryPlate. Just five years old. Cute as a button. She had brown hair and brown eyes. Never met a stranger. Loved to make people laugh. Always had a funny joke to tell. Followed it up with “Waka waka,” just like Fozzie Bear from the Muppets. Adored all things Disney. And swimming. She would never turn down a dance party. Loved to read and be read to. Her favorite books? Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and Night Night Little Pookie were two of her favorites. And then one day she disappeared. As if that weren't horrible enough, her parents didn't report her missing for ten months. Her name is Oakley Carlson. This is her story. Dana MacKay was born in Los Angeles, California, on February 12 1956. Dana had a daughter, Misty, born around 1980, with a woman named Alifonsa. Dana was a well known personality in Las Vegas in the late 70's and through the 80's. Dana was the image of the King, and even in candid family photos he looks like he could pass for Elvis. He didn't just look like Elvis, he sounded like him, too. Dana was able to perform the king's hits with a backup band and his own vocals. He eventually decided to hang up his white rhinestone jumpsuit and focus on his other passion which was landscaping. However, Dana wouldn't be able to fulfill his new dream of running a successful landscaping business. This is his story. Cold case detectives believe the case can be solved with more input from the public. I just booked the house that we will be staying at on next year's Celtic Invasion of the Isle of Man. The invasion is all booked up. However, there might be a second invasion added in August. So if you're not yet, subscribed at celticinvasion.com, make sure you go ahead and do that. The Secret World of Celtic Rock compilation CDs that were funded on Kickstarter last month, they have arrived. I hope to do a listening party for that album next week. I'll let you know the details as soon as I have some and when the physical CD is on sale on my Bandcamp page. I am still waiting for two people who haven't completed the Kickstarter survey to contact me with info. Otherwise, the shirts and tote bags should arrive from my printer by next when I will start mailing stuff out. Thanks. I Usually work around the house. I especially like to listen while doing yard work." For St Patrick's Day? "Hanging at two of our favorite Irish pubs, drinking Guinness and Jameson, and listening to some great Irish bands. We constantly have Celtic music on in our house and we are planning a trip to Ireland this summer. Our trip three years ago got squashed due to the pandemic." Travis Senzaki replied: "Hi Marc, thank you for continuing to put out this podcast year after year! This St. Patrick's Day, the podcast is really my only connection to Celtic culture, so I'll be spending the evening listening with my kids. Over the years of listening, I have moved from the US to rural Japan, where there is no other access to my Irish roots. I have to travel to even find Guinness on tap. But thanks to you, my kids have picked up on Celtic music (or "Daddy's car music", as they call it) and even recognize it when some of the common themes find their way into movie or game music. I hope to continue sharing this music and culture with them as they grow older, and your podcast remains my best resource to do so. Thank you! Thanks again for all you do! I'm looking forward to listening to the St. Patrick's Day episode(s) over a glass, even if I have to pour it from a can. Slainte!" Sarah Shorter replied: "Good morning Marc. We are enjoying some autumn sunshine down in new zealand. I'm listening with my son (18 months old) and he loves the show. St Patrick's for us will be attending play centre (a parent run education centre) where we will be making shamrock fairy bread.( green sprinkles on buttered bread cut out with a cookie cutter) quite a conglomeration of celtic and new zealand cultures. We will also be bringing in a play list to share with the kids ( aged 0 to5 ) I'm just putting it together now starting from the best of 2022 and 2023 Playlist.. Kia Ora"
