The Four Signs that prompted a pampered prince to retreat from the world were an old man, a sick man, a corpse, and a monk or a yogin. Buddha was born Siddhartha Gautama, a prince of Kapilavastu (on the Indian-Nepalese border) in the 5th century BCE. Soothsayers predicted he would become either a universal king or a buddha (awakened one). Jana tells the story and chants too.
