This podcast episode originally aired May 3 2022, the same day as the leak of a controversial Supreme Court opinion that indicated Roe v. Wade would soon be overturned. Before Leonard Leo was a household name, he was on Narativ's radar and he became the main focus of our coverage the day a Supreme Court opinion leak about Roe v. Wade would be overturned, eliminating federal abortion rights protections. Eric Garland was my guest that day. We discussed the implications of this bombshell and delve into the decades-long effort by conservatives to reshape the judiciary and set the stage for such a reversal. Central to this strategy has been Leonard Leo, a religiously-motivated lawyer and operative embedded in powerful legal networks like the Federalist Society and the Council for National Policy. Leonard Leo's Influence Though not a high-profile public figure, Leonard Leo has played an outsized role coordinating the conservative legal movement's long term plans. Guided by extreme Catholic notions of “natural law,” Leo leveraged his positions within the Federalist Society, the Council for National Policy, and other networks to place ideological allies in key positions. He is also an influential member of the secretive, ultra-conservative Catholic order the Knights of Malta, which bridges his advocacy with international power centers in the Vatican and beyond. Most notably, Leo facilitated over $30 million dollars in Koch brothers donations to reshape George Mason University's law school using his influence on their board. The ultimate goal was to groom Supreme Court justices sympathetic to rolling back liberal decisions on issues like abortion rights. Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett were all vetted and promoted by Leo before their controversial nominations and confirmations. Response to Roe v. Wade Leak The hosts react to realization of Leo's goal to overturn Roe v. Wade with deep concern regarding legitimacy, given foreign meddling in recent appointments and new evidence indicating corporate capture of the judicial nomination process. More broadly, this episode encapsulates long building progressive fears that a hijacked Supreme Court could severely erode civil rights protections, privacy rights, and other pillars of equitable governance in America, jeopardizing stability and social cohesion. However, the hosts ultimately express hope that lawful accountability and democratic participation can restore rule of law and integrity to the Republic. Learn more about your ad choices. Hello and welcome to a new season of the History of the Germans, the Teutonic Knights or to give them their full title, the knights of the hospital of St. Mary of the House of the Germans in Jerusalem. Even though the state they had created in Prussia has been wiped off the map with all its cultural markers, the Teutonic Knights are not forgotten. Less shrouded in nonsense than the Templars, less devoted to social causes than the Knights of St. John they still loom large not just in German history but even more so in Polish and Russian history. Both of these nations have placed victories over the Teutonic Knights at key junctions of their national narrative. But were the Teutonic knights these near invincible, cruel faceless war machines that Sergei Eisenstein had charging over the ice to the sound of Prokofiev brilliant score? That is what we will try to find out over the next few episodes. Expect your fair share of heroic battles, chivalric entertainment all intermingled with twisted theology and astute commercial activity. I hope you will enjoy it.The music for the show is Flute Sonata in E-flat major, H.545 by Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach (or some claim it as BWV 1031 Johann Sebastian Bach) performed and arranged by Michel Rondeau under Common Creative Licence 3.0.As always:Homepage with maps, photos, transcripts and blog: www.historyofthegermans.comFacebook: @HOTGPod Twitter: @germanshistoryInstagram: history_of_the_germansReddit: u/historyofthegermansPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/HistoryofthegermansHere is the link to the article by Cory Doctorow: https://www.wired.com/story/tiktok-platforms-cory-doctorow/Bibliography:Steven Runciman: A history of the CrusadesEric Christiansen: The Northern CrusadesWilliam Urban: The Teutonic Knights - A mlitary HistoryJurgen Sarnowsky: Der Deutsche orden

Head Coach of the Lady Vols, Kim Cupini, joins us here at For Stars Podcast. In her first year of coaching the Tennessee Volunteers, Cupini and her supportive coaching staff, took the Fall 2023 season to "amp up the volume" and focus on bringing all of the athletes together as one. Cupini is well-suited to lead the Lady Vols, being arguably one of the most decorated coaches in collegiate rowing. Spending over twelve years coaching the Toreros at the University of San Diego, ten as the Head Coach, she developed the women so much that prior to her culmination at the helm of the program, the women at USD finished with the highest ranking in the history of the program. Similar to USD, Kim coached up the Knights at UCF, and just recently Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas from 2017-2023.Cupini's impact to each program she has lead is truly astronomical --- so much so that fifteen athletes from SMU, along with an additional five from other institutions, entered the NCAA Transfer Portal during the summer of 2023, in following Kim to Tennessee. Similar to the athletes, her coaching staff chose to travel to the Rocky Top as well, even including the Boatman, Randy Duffy.Hudson and Kim speak on a variety of topics regarding her transition to Tennessee as well as clarification to several widespread rumors and thoughts from rowing enthusiasts. Cupini's primary focus is student-athlete development, seeing the progression of the person as a whole, which is completely evident in the way she speaks about her team on this episode. Be sure to tune into Head Coach of Tennessee Women's Rowing, Kim Cupini!Fit, Healthy & Happy Podcast Welcome to the Fit, Healthy and Happy Podcast hosted by Josh and Kyle from Colossus...Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifyXeno Müller - Elite Rowing Coach Make your rowing dreams real! This week we welcome back author and historian Ralph Ellis to explore the connections between Jesus, Josephus and King Abgar V of Edessa. Ralph has toured the Mediterranean for more than three decades searching for secular similarities and parallels between the apparently disparate disciplines of history and theology. Why are so many of the famous biblical characters missing from the historical record? Does this biblical lacuna mean that both the Old and New Testaments are fictional, as many people have claimed? Or are we simply looking in the wrong locations or perhaps even the wrong eras? Strap yourselves in for a revision of biblical history that pulls no punches and is not for the faint-hearted. For more information on Ralph's work, follow these links: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ralph.ellis.144 Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/c/RalphEllis/videos The Egyptian Testament Series https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0753FWD9D The King Jesus Trilogy (in five parts) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Q3H8H84 Shards of Illumination Trilogy (in one part) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B65PWKZ1 Website: www.edfu-books.com #RalphEllis #kingabgar #althistory From the web: Ralph Ellis has a very controversial and unconventional theory about the historical Jesus. He claims that Jesus was not a poor carpenter from Nazareth, but a wealthy and powerful king of Edessa, a city-state in northern Syria. He also claims that Jesus was a descendant of the Egyptian pharaohs, through his mother Mary, who was related to Cleopatra. He bases his theory on the writings of Josephus, a Jewish historian who lived in the first century CE, and other ancient sources. He also compares the biblical accounts of Jesus with the historical records of King Izas Manu of Edessa, who led a revolt against the Roman Empire and was crucified by the governor of Syria. According to Ellis, Jesus had a dual identity: he was both the Messiah of the Jews and the King of Edessa. He had a claim to the throne of Judaea, as a descendant of King David, and also to the throne of Rome, as a relative of Julius Caesar and Augustus. He tried to fulfil the prophecies of the Old Testament by liberating the Jews from the Roman occupation, but he failed and was captured and sentenced to death. However, Ellis argues that Jesus did not die on the cross, but was rescued by his followers and taken to Britain, where he became known as King Arthur and founded the Knights of the Round Table. He also claims that the Holy Grail was not a cup, but a royal bloodline that traced back to Jesus and his wife Mary Magdalene, who was a princess of Orange. Ellis's theory is very radical and contradicts the mainstream views of historians and theologians. He challenges the authenticity and reliability of the New Testament, and accuses the Church of suppressing and altering the original evidence. He also proposes that the Apostle Paul and Josephus were the same person, and that they created a fictional version of Jesus to pacify the Jewish rebels and promote a peaceful and submissive form of Christianity. He also suggests that the King Arthur legend was misdated and misplaced by mediaeval writers, and that it actually referred to the historical Jesus and his followers in Britain. ____________________________________________________________________ Follow us here: https://allmylinks.com/the-amish-inquisition Signup for the newsletter, join the community, follow us online, and most importantly share links! ____________________________________________________________________ Producer Credits for Ep 306: Martin Young, Rhona Kesson, Helen, Aliyah, Emma Bridges, Ziggy Dan and Chris from Sheep Farm ____________________________________________________________________ Leave us a voicemail: 07562245894 Message us here....follow, like, subscribe and share.
