If How Did This Get Made? are the Replacements, we're the Goo Goo Dolls. We look back at some of our favorite movies from our childhoods and teen years. Then we ask ourselves, "Does this hold up? Did this age well? Do we like this movie any more?" Join Griffin, Katie and Kiersten for a Second Opinion.
CONFORM!!! BUY A SEGA DREAMCAST!!! AREA 51 IS A LIE!!!This week we look at one of Katie's picks, Josie and the Pussycats. A live-action adaption of the comics and cartoon of the same name. In it, three up-and-coming rockers discover that the industry is much more sinister than they realized and must save a generation of youths from becoming mindless consumers.
Griffin will not shut up about the book.On this week's episode we take a look back at the film that put JTT and Brad Renfro in the shoes of America's original bad boys, I do declare.
Second Opinions is your boyfriend now.For this week's episode we look back at the classic 1984 psychological slasher from horror master Wes Craven -- A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Yo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really really wantSo tell me what you want what you really really wantYo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really really wantSo tell me what you want what you really really wantYo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really really wantSo tell me what you want what you really really wantYo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really really wantSo tell me what you want what you really really wantSeason 2 kicks off with a banger as we take a look at Spice World.**Attention**This film and our conversation around it deals with the topic of suicide at brief moments.
"What is a tuna?" -- Rum Tum Tugger, the Curious CatIn our season one finale, we flip the script here at Second Opinions. Instead of looking back at movie we used to love, we review a film that I never gave a chance in the first place. Ever since I was a little kid, the musical Cats freaked me out. All that fur and whiskers and ears on human beings slinking around like felins just scared the hell out of me. I couldn't get over the look of it all.Upon viewing it in full, the costuming is actually really quite impressive and so is the dancing. The music and story....well, that's another topic entirely. With special guest Melissa Iglody.
As we go on, we rememberAll the times we had togetherAnd as our lives change, come whateverWe will still be friends foreverIt’s a night you’ll never forget. Even watching your family get murdered in front of you won’t be as memorable as “Prom Night” (2008).Sure, the teens in these slasher movies are always making bad decisions and easily getting caught in the killer's trap, but the cops....the cops are on another level.Police Academy, The Other Guys, The Naked Gun -- none of these films come anywhere close to the level incompetency of Idris Elba's Detective Winn. He makes all the wrong decisions with such confidence, and no one ever calls him out on it.
Barry Sonnefeld and Will Smith struck some good gold with Men in Black. Could they do it again with a western steampunk adaptation of a '60s TV show? No. They failed miserably. We take a look at Wild Wild West, a film that has Smith and Kevin Kline teaming up to fight a spider-obsessed villain during Reconstruction. Despite it being one of the main causes of the Civil War and the villains motivation, slavery is barely touched on throughout this action adventure. At least the theme song is fun. Wicki Wicki.
It's a tale as old as time: two high school boys are looking to get laid before graduation. But in their sexual quest, they find that the true treasure...is friendship. We take a second look at one of the most quotable and praised comedies of the 2000s -- Superbad.
The fate of the realms lies in the hands of master martial arts fighters such Lightning Bolt Eyes, Phantom of the Opera, Farrah Faucet Hair Guy and Giant Snail Man. Listen as Katie tries her best to remember any of the characters' names in our review of Paul W. S. Anderson's Mortal Kombat.
This one was a HELL of a ride as we look at one of Kiersten's all-time faves. Megan Fox listens to crappy indie rock, eats chicken off the floor and grabs Amanda Seyfried's boobs. She's evil, but not high school evil. **ADVISORY** This episode contains discussion of rape and predatory themes present in “Jennifer’s Body.”
Over the history of cinema we've seen only a handful of iconic on-screen couples -- Bogart and Bergman, Hanks and Ryan, James and Layne. Make way for Butler and Heigl in the raunchy retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac. **ADVISORY** This episode includes discussion of rape jokes and predatory themes present in “The Ugly Truth.”
We're pretty sure "Napoleon Dynamite" ripped off this film that follows an unpopular boy as he pulls lint out of his belly button, sniffs a little girl's hair and sabotages his school's Spaghetti Western Square Dance fundraiser with a funky disco number. Todd Bosely, who you might remember as a side character from "Jack" and "The Little Giants," now takes center stage as "Lloyd," the grossest kid in the world. The entire movie is available for free on YouTube. Hosts:Griffin KellyKiersten KellyKatie DowlingArt:Tiffany NadlerTheme Music:Brendan McIntyre
In this 2009 comedy, Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson are two best friends who've always dreamed of having their weddings at the Plaza Hotel ever since they went to one brunch there as children. They both get their dream venue, BUT....on the same day. And now....it's war!Hosts:Griffin KellyKiersten KellyKatie DowlingArt:Tiffany NadlerTheme Music:Brendan McIntyre
