IS THIS ACTUALLY THE BEST ONE IN THE TRILOGY?! Men in Black 3 (2012) Full Movie Reaction & Review with Greg Alba and Jackie Bonsignore! Men in Black 3 Full Movie Uncut Watch Along: / thereelrejects -Check out the DC Studios Showcase Podcast here https://app.magellan.ai/listen_links/... Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Apparel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ In this comprehensive movie review and reaction, Greg and Jackie conquer a wild rewatch filled with high-stakes timeline shifts and surprisingly deep character growth. We unpack the incredible comedic and dramatic performances of the legendary stellar cast, featuring Will Smith (Bad Boys, The Pursuit of Happyness) returning with his classic charisma as Agent J, Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive, No Country for Old Men) as the stoic, world-weary Agent K, and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame, Sicario) delivering an absolutely flawless, mind-blowing impression as the younger 1969 variant of Agent K. We also break down the phenomenal presence of the main villains and supporting players, including Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Concords, What We Do in the Shadows) as the hyper-lethal, moon-escaping Boris the Animal, Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually) as Agent O, Bill Hader (Barry, Superbad) in a brilliant undercover cameo as Andy Warhol / Agent W, Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man, Call Me by Your Name) as the sweet, fifth-dimensional being Griffin, and Mike Colter (Luke Cage, Evil) in a devastatingly emotional role. Our hosts react to every iconic visual gag, massive effects sequence, and tragic narrative beat this film has to offer. We break down the disgusting opening lunar prison breakout involving an alien-drenched cake, the dark comedy of K's shockingly brief funeral eulogy for Zed, and the intense Chinese restaurant shootout featuring a giant, aggressive alien fish brawl. We unpack the sheer terrifying thrill of the Chrysler Building time jump that triggers temporal fracture headaches cured by chocolate milk, the investigative logic of eating pie to unlock the secrets of the universe, and the massive Apollo 11 launchpad climax where the past and future completely collide. Greg and Jackie were both completely blown away by how much extra heart, emotional stakes, and cohesive storytelling this sequel brings compared to Men in Black 2, concluding with a beautifully tragic ending twist that fundamentally redefines the entire bond between J and K. Supergood or Superbad? Check out our thoughts as we kick off the battle of the 2000s comedies!
Hello! We hope you've enjoyed our Best Picture Series. We have some fun, topical movies coming up, and there should be some great discussions. In the meantime, take a listen to this look back at an episode from 2022, covering Superbad.
Jonah Hill is a film actor, writer, and filmmaker. He broke out in comedy with Superbad in 2007, before earning critical acclaim in dramatic roles in Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street. He transitioned into filmmaking with his directorial debut Mid90s, a raw and culturally resonant coming-of-age story that established his distinct, emotionally honest voice. Expanding across mediums, he has directed music videos, commercial campaigns, and television, while producing and developing projects through Strong Baby Productions, including the Netflix documentary Stutz. Now a multidisciplinary filmmaker, he continues to shape character-driven stories—most recently directing Outcome, scheduled for release on April 10, 2026. ------ Thank you to the sponsors that fuel our podcast and our team: AG1 https://DrinkAG1.com/tetra ------ LMNT Electrolytes https://DrinkLMNT.com/tetra Use code 'TETRA' ------ Squarespace https://Squarespace.com/tetra Use code 'TETRA' ------ Lectio 365 https://Lectio365.com ------ Sign up to receive Tetragrammaton Transmissions https://www.tetragrammaton.com/join-newsletter
In this episode, we break down SUPERBAD — the coming-of-age comedy that perfectly captures the chaos, insecurity, and friendship of high school. We dive into the chemistry between Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, the unforgettable side characters like McLovin, and how the film balances ridiculous humor with surprisingly real emotional stakes. We analyze why Superbad feels so authentic, how its writing captures the awkwardness of growing up, and why the movie has remained one of the most rewatchable comedies of the 2000s. From wild party scenes to the underlying story about friendship and change, this is a comedy that hits way deeper than it seems — and we break down exactly why.Chapters:00:00 The story of how it was made16:37 The cast that turned out better than they planned26:43 Jonah Hill big Hollywood boy29:19 Hilarious start to Emma Stone's career32:02 Michael Cera hated the fame he got from this role37:27 Michael Cera & Judd Apatow fight on set42:25 Bill Hader turns everything to gold51:15 The awkwardness of being 17 on this film set54:25 Insane cameo you didn't notice59:39 Our official rating & final thoughts
This week on Made Up Movie, Brad Lowe brings what he confidently calls “the greatest idea of his life” (ranking just behind his marriage), and Nikki immediately realizes she's either witnessing genius… or the beginning of a cinematic crime.Welcome to the birth of Monkey Cop.The episode starts normal—talking musicals, Muppets, and whether anyone over 25 should legally be allowed inside Spencer's—before Brad drops a fully developed, slightly concerning cinematic universe that he's apparently been building in his head for years. We're talking:A chain-smoking, beer-drinking chimp copA washed-up human partner one write-up away from getting firedA PG-13 movie that somehow includes drugs, bar fights, and monkey hookupsA VHS intro featuring a monkey watching edited adult tapes (yes, really)And that's just the pitch. From there, things spiral beautifully.Brad unveils:A full trilogy (with escalating banana-based subtitles)A spin-off called The Splooge (yes, that's a real sentence)A cartoon seriesA prequel origin storyMerchandising plans like he's already met with DisneyMeanwhile, Nikki is trying to keep things grounded by asking reasonable questions like:“Should this be CGI or a real monkey?”…and Brad responds with a deep dive into real-life monkey crime documentaries and a former coworker who is now apparently in prison. Because of course. They also:Debate casting like this is actually greenlit (Glenn Powell, Sydney Sweeney, Channing Tatum—Monkey Cop is STACKED)Accidentally turn the movie into a mashup of Ted, Superbad, and Miami ViceCreate a musical number about cocaine mid-conversationAnd somehow land on a stalker subplot where Nikki plays a woman obsessed with Monkey Cop's clothing… and potentially his poopYes. That happens.By the end, no one is entirely sure what just happened—but they are sure of one thing:Monkey Cop is either movie gold… or the exact reason Hollywood should have stricter rules.Either way, this episode proves one thing:You don't need a real movie to have a better time than most real movies.Just another completely normal episode of Movie Torture. Alyssa dove into the Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special and came back and had some interesting observations. Meanwhile, gas prices are creeping back toward that painful $4-a-gallon mark and we aren't ready for it. We bring the Good Vibes (don't worry, we need them too), then jump into Am I The Bleephole? — Tammy hosted a sleepover where the kids watched Superbad, and now another mom is pointing fingers. Fair or foul? Alyssa's College of Knowledge returns, and Bill had not one—but TWO very different reasons to make a trip to North Royalton yesterday. Plus, we ask: what phrase needs to be retired forever?
This week's episode covers everything from movies to mystery. We start with film award season—talking about the biggest winners, surprises, and what's worth watching.Next, we have a fun Sit-Start-Bench segment with three classic comedies: Step Brothers, The Hangover, and Superbad. We rank them and debate which one comes out on top.To wrap things up, we take a look at the David Glenn Lewis case in our Panhandle Crime Scene segment—a strange and still-unsolved mystery with a lot of questions.A little bit of entertainment, a little bit of debate, and a little bit of true crime.
Movie of the Year: 1971Willy Wonka and the Chocolate FactoryWilly Wonka and the Chocolate Factory podcast fans, this one is for you. Ryan, Mike, and Greg are joined by special guest Matt Singer of ScreenCrush to revisit one of 1971's most beloved and most debated films on Movie of the Year. In addition, Mel Stuart's musical fantasy has frightened and delighted children and adults in equal measure for over fifty years. This episode also features Movie Trivia and a PopFilter Hall of Fame: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory induction.About the FilmRoald Dahl based the film on his 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The story follows young Charlie Bucket, who wins a golden ticket and tours the mysterious factory of the eccentric Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. Notably, Dahl wrote the screenplay himself — and then disowned the finished film. He objected to the liberties the production took with his story and his vision for the character. As a result, that tension between author and adaptation makes this a particularly rich film to revisit. Before diving in, check out our recent episodes on The Last Picture Show, A Clockwork Orange, and The French Connection for more from the Movie of the Year 1971 series.Guest Panelist: Matt Singer of ScreenCrushMatt Singer joins the Taste Buds for this episode. He serves as editor and film critic at ScreenCrush and holds membership in the New York Film Critics Circle. Singer spent five years as the on-air host of IFC News on the Independent Film Channel. He has also contributed to CBS This Morning Saturday, Ebert Presents at the Movies, The Village Voice, and The Dissolve. Furthermore, he won a Webby Award for his work on IFC.com and authored Opposable Thumbs: How Siskel & Ebert Changed Movies Forever.Matt Singer's New Book: Funny BusinessHis latest book is Funny Business, out in October. It covers the comedy films of the 2000s — Old School, Zoolander, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, The Hangover, and more. Pre-order it now. Moreover, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ranks among Singer's four all-time favorite films on Letterboxd. Consequently, this is not just any guest — Singer has thought deeply about this film for a very long time.Willy Wonka 1971 Podcast Discussion: Genre and ToneThe first major topic of this Willy Wonka 1971 podcast discussion is the question that has divided audiences since opening day: what kind of film is this, exactly? The studio marketed it as a children's musical fantasy. In practice, however, it delivers something far stranger and more unsettling. The boat tunnel sequence alone has scared generations of young viewers. Moreover, the tone shifts without warning from whimsical to genuinely threatening. Gene Wilder's performance keeps the audience perpetually off-balance throughout.Ryan, Mike, Greg, and Matt Singer dig into how Mel Stuart navigated the tension between studio ambitions and the source material. They also examine the complicated role of Roald Dahl as screenwriter — a man who shaped the film's darkest edges and then rejected the result. For more on the film's production history on IMDB, the details prove just as strange as the movie itself. What Gene Wilder Brings to Willy WonkaAbove all, the panel examines what Gene Wilder brings to the role that no other actor has replicated. His Wonka radiates warmth that sits one beat away from menace — and a menace that sits one beat away from warmth. No other performer has threaded that needle. For a full look at Wilder's career, therefore, visit his IMDB page.Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: Kids vs. AdultsOne of the central questions of this episode is who Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory actually targets. On the surface, it presents itself as a children's film. In practice, though, it rewards adult viewing in ways that most children's films never attempt. The satire cuts deep, the darkness feels genuine, and Wonka makes much more sense to a viewer who no longer roots for Charlie as a pure hero. The panel explores the film through both lenses. As children, most of them fell for the candy and feared the tunnel. As adults, by contrast, they find something else entirely — a film about power, punishment, and the thin line between a visionary and a tyrant. Additionally, they discuss how the film shifts meaning depending on which version of yourself sits in the audience, and why that quality remains so rare.Capitalism, Conformity, and Other -Isms in Willy Wonka 1971Beneath the chocolate and the Oompa Loompas, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has a great deal to say about the world. The children who fail Wonka's tests are not simply bad kids. Instead, they embody consumer culture, class anxiety, and parental failure. Augustus Gloop represents excess. Violet Beauregarde embodies competitive ambition. Veruca Salt carries unchecked privilege. Meanwhile, Mike Teavee absorbs media saturation. Each child faces punishment not for being a child, but for playing the role of a particular kind of adult in miniature.Ryan, Mike, Greg, and Matt Singer examine what the film says about capitalism, conformity, and the systems that shape children before they can question them. In addition, they take on the troubling labor politics of the Oompa Loompas — workers paid in cacao beans, housed inside their employer's factory, and sent out to deliver moral lectures on demand. It is a lot to unpack. Nevertheless, this episode unpacks all of it.For more critical context on the film's themes, visit RogerEbert.com.Movie Trivia: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory EditionThis episode features a special Movie Trivia segment. Did you know that Gene Wilder agreed to play Wonka only if the character could limp — so audiences could never fully trust him? Or that the chocolate river used real chocolate and cream, and quickly turned rancid on set? Or that Roald Dahl refused to authorize a sequel after the studio ignored his objections to the first film?As a result, the Taste Buds and Matt Singer test their full knowledge of the film. They cover casting history, behind-the-scenes stories, and the many ways the finished film diverged from Dahl's original vision. Even devoted fans will likely learn something new.PopFilter Hall of Fame: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate FactoryThis episode also features a PopFilter Hall of Fame: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory induction. The panel makes their case for which element of the film deserves permanent enshrinement — whether that is Gene Wilder's performance, a specific scene, a song, or something else entirely. Tune in to find out what makes the cut.Why the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Podcast Discussion Still MattersMore than fifty years after its release, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory stands as one of the most enduring and genuinely strange films in the American canon. It grows with you. Specifically, it means something different at seven, at seventeen, and at forty-seven. Few films can make that claim.Ultimately, this Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory podcast episode revisits the film not just as a 1971 classic, but as a living text that continues to reward close attention. With Matt Singer in the mix, expect sharp criticism, genuine passion, and at least one strong opinion about the Fizzy Lifting Drinks scene.Related Episodes from Movie of the Year: 1971If you enjoyed this episode, check out the rest of the Movie of the Year 1971 series:The Last Picture Show — Bogdanovich, nostalgia, and a dying Texas townA Clockwork Orange — Kubrick, free will, and the limits of the stateThe French Connection — Friedkin,

This week we venture back to high school for one crazy night with the cult comedy classic, Superbad. Journey with us as we discuss this autobiographical script from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and how it fits into the mold of a Judd Apatow comedy. Is this the quintessential high school comedy or is it too crass for most audiences? So pour some rye, grab your McLovin ID, and get ready for the final high school adventure with Seth and Evan. Cheers!
It's a Thanksgiving miracle! Will, Jared, and Kourtney gather round the table to discuss a raunchy high school movie that released when they were the target audience for it. The movie that put Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, and Emma Stone on the map: Superbad!Does Superbad still hit, or is it a lazy, classless relic of the 2000s? Is Jonah Hill's character a huge jerk and maybe even closeted? How maybe celebrity cameos can you spot in the scary party scene? Can Will and Kourtney name 9 other popular comedies from the 2000s? Listen to find out!Superbad is available on these streaming services. On the Debaser next time, join us as we celebrate ONE HUNDRED EPISODES with... My Dinner With Andre. That's right, McLovin! This week on The Commentary Booth, host Jamie Apps is joined by Aussie pro wrestler Jesse Flynn to celebrate a major milestone: the 2007 coming-of-age teen buddy comedy Superbad is officially 18 years old!We look back at why this film hit so hard in the late 2000s, especially for anyone who grew up sneaking cheap DVDs into thick CD folders, dealing with terrible phone reception, and believing that a fake ID was the key to ultimate social success. Jamie and Jesse dig into the film's comedy, the Judd Apatow era that helped shape it, the insane quotability, and how Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and a brand new Emma Stone set the tone for the next decade of teen cinema. There's also a surprising amount of heart in Superbad, and the conversation captures how the movie slowly reveals a story about two friends realising life is about to pull them in different directions, even if they don't really want to admit it. Some parts definitely feel dated now, although the chaos still delivers laughs in almost every scene.Highlights Breakdown:The Film's Legacy: How Superbad launched the careers of Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and a then-unknown Emma Stone, and kicked open the door for a golden era of R-rated comediesIconic Scene Breakdowns: From the legendary dick drawing portfolio and Fogell's "McLovin" fake ID, to the wacky cop side-quest and Seth's unforgettable dance movesThe Heart Beneath the Humour: Analysing the surprisingly emotional core of the film, the anxiety of saying goodbye to your best friendsDoes It Hold Up?: A frank discussion on the film's more dated and problematic elements 18 years later, and why the hilarious middle still makes it a top-tier rewatchAussie Wrestling Re-cast: Jesse takes on the ultimate challenge: casting the roles of Seth, Evan, Fogell, and the cops with stars from the Australian wrestling scene!Whether you've rewatched it recently or haven't seen it since the era of flip phones and dodgy MSN chat logs, this episode is a reminder of why Superbad became an instant cult favourite. This week's episode is brought to you byAustralian Wrestling CardsCheck out more great content from Pario Magazine on our website.-------------------------------------------------------------SUPPORT PARIO MAGAZINE & THE COMMENTARY BOOTH- PATREON- BUY MERCH- AMAZON PRIME VIDEO- TUBEBUDDY- Subscribe to AEW Plus using my code (q0yydoz) to earn $10 in FITE credit- Shop Online With Honey- Shop Online With SatechiMY EQUIPMENT- Elgato Facecam- Rode PodMic- Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP- Streamlabs Talk StudioFOLLOW JAMIE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram- TikTokFOLLOW PARIO MAGAZINE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram

Take a walk through Judd Apatow’s office, like I did, and you’ll be reminded of all the successful projects he’s helped create over the years: Anchorman, Bridesmaids, Superbad, The 40-Year-Old Virgin. I joined him there to discuss his new visual memoir, Comedy Nerd: A Lifelong Obsession in Stories and Pictures. As I learn throughout our conversation, Judd’s propulsion to create isn’t to prove that he’s one of the funniest guys in the biz; it’s to figure out if he has anything to say in the first place, to work out what’s in his head. It’s something I relate to as a writer, and it’s a big part of the new book, as he documents everything he’s collected and concocted over the years and tries to make sense of this life that he’s made. As we reflect, we also talk about our most scathing reviews, why we can’t Google ourselves, and how Judd’s documentary on our mutual friend, Garry Shandling, helped cement his subject’s legacy. A sonic thrill ride for fans of guitar music, guitar hero/composer LYLE WORKMAN's new album — called Rhythm and Leads Guitar — is a captivating instrumental odyssey no guitarist should miss. Step into Lyle's studio with me, and we'll plug in some guitars with him and dive deep into his new record and much more — including his blazing solos with Bourgeois Tagg back in the '80s; his new, custom Stan Cotey-modded EVH head; and even some cool pedalboards. And yes: Lyle is a highly accomplished film composer, so if you want to immerse yourself in that realm (including learning how he created soundtracks to hit movies such as “SuperBad” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”), be sure to go back and listen to Lyle's FIRST appearance on this show, which was on Ep. 110 of No Guitar Is Safe (back in 2020). This episode is presented by GUITAR PLAYER and GutiarPlayer.com. Thank you, Guitar Player! And thank YOU for listening. Please share! —JUDE GOLD, host and creator, No Guitar Is Safe podcast
