Before you ever say a word, you've already told the room everything it needs to know. Your posture, your eye contact, the angle of your body, the openness of your chest — all of it is speaking. And most of us have no idea what it's saying.Linda Clemons is a world-renowned body language and nonverbal communication expert who has spent more than three decades training Fortune 500 CEOs, sales teams, celebrities, and media leaders to master the silent signals that build trust, command respect, and create connection. Her bestselling book Hush: How to Radiate Power and Confidence Without Saying a Word is a practical guide to the conversation your body is having without you.We explore why 93% of communication is nonverbal and what that actually means in practice, the four power zones of the body and why keeping them open changes everything from a job interview to a conversation with your teenager, how our biases show up in our bodies before they ever come out of our mouths, the three patterns that derail us in high-stakes moments — frozen, flooding, and flat — and how to move through them, and why the question that changes everything is not what do I want to say but how do I want this person to feel when they leave? Your body doesn't reach for the wine because you're weak. It reaches because it's never learned that discomfort is survivable. That changes today. In this episode, I share the story of Amy — a high-achieving client who came to The Magic House retreat in Lisbon for the photos and left with something she didn't expect: a completely different relationship with her phone, her body, and the quiet moments she used to fill with scrolling. No decision. No willpower. It just happened. That's what building a regulated nervous system actually looks like. And in this episode, you'll learn exactly how to start building yours. You'll learn: Why women who over-drink tend to be disconnected from their own bodies — and what the research says about the link between body awareness and alcohol cravings What interoception is and why training it is one of the most powerful things you can do to stop over-drinking How embodied practices like breathwork, forest bathing, mindfulness, yoga, and sound healing work — and why they have nothing to do with relaxation The simple grounding practice Angela uses at every retreat that you can do anywhere, starting today Why your nervous system can't be talked into feeling safe — and what to do instead If you're a woman who drinks more than you want to, finds herself reaching for a glass at 5pm almost automatically, or has tried every top-down strategy and still can't seem to make it stick — this episode is for you.No labels. Mind Matters
The Secret Ingredients for Emotional Regulation

    Mind Matters

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 29, 2026 40:42

When a student or child is dysregulated, adults often focus entirely on finding the right words to say or the appropriate consequence to give. But what if the most critical factor in that interaction isn't the consequence itself, but the energy of the adult delivering it? Dr. Lori Desautels, an educator, researcher, and professor of applied educational neuroscience at Butler University, joins the podcast to reframe how we approach discipline, emotional regulation, and transitions. Her latest manual, Body and Brain Brilliance, emphasizes that true support, whether in a classroom or a living room, must begin with the adult's own nervous system. Emily and Lori discuss why transitions are biologically exhausting, how to build a vocabulary around physical sensations, and why traditional, punitive discipline models often escalate neurodivergent students. Lori also outlines a practical, compassionate framework for repairing ruptures between teachers and students, shifting the focus away from sheer compliance and toward co-regulation. TAKEAWAYS A dysregulated adult cannot effectively regulate a dysregulated child, making the adult's own awareness the first pillar of support. The goal isn't to be perfectly calm all the time, it's to cultivate "embodied awareness," recognizing the physical signs of when your nervous system is activated. Transitions are difficult because the brain consumes significant energy moving from a predictable, comfortable state into new expectations or environments. Effective discipline often requires an adult to offer their grounded nervous system to a child who needs to borrow a little stability. Outward behavior is not necessarily defiance, it's often an indicator that the nervous system is struggling and requires support. Late-diagnosed neurodivergent adults are frequently missed in clinical settings because their presentations - often masked by high intellect, outward compliance, or severe perfectionism - fail to match traditional diagnostic expectations. Join Emily Kircher-Morris on May 1st for a targeted continuing education training designed to equip mental health professionals with the updated frameworks necessary to identify and support this population. This session covers the clinical complexities of burnout, masking, and the internalized stigma that accompanies late identification. Earn 1.5 APA and NBCC-approved CE hours (available live or via recorded independent study) by registering at neurodiversity.university or clicking here. Dr. Lori Desautels is an educator, researcher, and professor of Applied Educational Neuroscience at Butler University, where she teaches graduate students and advances research connecting brain science to classroom practice. Her work centers on trauma-accommodating, neurodiversity-affirming frameworks that support both educators and students. Dr. Desautels is the author of several books, including her newest manual, Body and Brain Brilliance, which outlines the four pillars of the Applied Educational Neuroscience framework. Her approach provides Tier One strategies that integrate regulation, relationship, and brain-based practices to foster environments where adults, children, and youth can thrive. And it will use pain, injury, grief, and exhaustion to force the conversation you've been too busy to have.We get into the three emotional states that govern every decision you make (and why most of us are stuck in survival mode way more than we realize), why breathwork might be the most underused healing tool on the planet, and what it actually looks like to surrender to darkness instead of just trying to outrun it.Koya also gets vulnerable about losing her mother unexpectedly, breaking a glass in her hand and watching herself bleed without feeling anything, and how that moment cracked open a depth of healing she didn't know she needed. This one hits different. You've been warned. In this episode:How a stress fracture became the most inconvenient divine intervention in sports historyThe three neuroemotional states (survival, emotional, executive) and how to tell which one is running your lifeWhy "surrendering to the darkness" isn't giving up. It's how real healing startsThe conscious connected breath technique Koya calls "breath healing," and why she uses it every single morningWhy longevity starts with self-love, not your supplement stackWhat to do when you're afraid that if you fall into the darkness, you won't come back outAbout Koya WebbKoya Webb is a globally recognized holistic wellness expert, longevity specialist, and transformational speaker. Today's word of the day is ‘remedy' as in the Boston Red Sox as in Craig Breslow as in winning. Breslow has followed the team to Toronto just days after firing Alex Cora. Can Boston turn the season around? The same way the team did last year when they traded away Rafael Devers. Let's examine what Breslow said after he spoke with some of the players. (11:45) Pat Riley is not going anywhere. How do you feel Heat fans? Do you think he'll finally make those moves he has promised? (24:16) NBA playoffs are in full swing. The Thunder have swept the Suns. The Pistons are reeling and could fall to 8-seed Magic. And the Nuggets have a shot against the Timberwolves with no Edwards or Donte. You know that thing you've been ignoring? That business move you keep putting off because it doesn't make logical sense? That pivot your gut keeps nudging you toward but your brain keeps talking you out of? Your intuition has been whispering. Then speaking. Now it's probably yelling. In this episode of The Expert Edge, I sit down with Dr. Jin Ong, an osteopath, acupuncturist, and herbalist who got a crystal-clear message from her intuition: "You can intuitively see the emotions stuck in people's bodies. You need to speak the truth to it." Her logical brain kicked in. "What will people think? This isn't in my scope of practice." So she parked it. Meditated. Had a baby. Kept doing the "safe" thing. Eventually, she realized the only thing she hadn't tried was actually doing what her intuition told her to do. So she moved countries, drained her bank account, stepped into the unknown, and built exactly what her intuition told her to build. Her five-year vision happened in 18 months. We dive deep into the cost of ignoring your intuition, why emotional work isn't just about feeling better, and how processing suppressed emotions can unlock everything from physical healing to business breakthroughs. What you'll learn: → Your body is trying to tell you something - Jin tried pills, supplements, diet control, emotional therapies. Nothing worked until she stopped fixing externally and started listening → Emotional work creates space for courage - How Jin's emotional work gave her the courage to leave her job, move countries with a 20-month-old, and step into the unknown → You can't process your deepest emotions alone - Why navigating emotional work solo means you'll only work on the easy stuff, not what actually moves you forward → Pain is the gateway to liberation - How Jin's clients come wanting their pain to go away and end up with expanded lives, better relationships, business opportunities, and money flow Real insights from the episode: Why Jin's body forced her into her gift through skin conditions, autoimmune issues, and constant sickness How suppressed emotions can bring up uncomfortable physical releases (and why that's actually your body feeling safe) Why Jin works with people with chronic health conditions, cancer, autoimmune disease, and fertility issues at an emotional level How Jin went from osteopath running clinics to helping people manifest incredible lives through emotional processing The difference between fixing things externally vs listening to what your body is actually trying to say Why ignoring your intuition shows up as stalled revenue, drained energy, or feeling off track If you resonated with Jin's work and want to go deeper, check out her book Healing Beyond the Diagnosis. It's available on Amazon (ebook and paperback) or download chapter 3 for free at drjinong.com/hbd-book She also has an audiobook available on her website. The connectome is the wiring diagram of a brain, a big matrix that tells us what neurons talk to what other neurons. Understanding it is an important step to understanding how brains work, but a long way from the final answer. A big next step is understanding how neuronal circuits connect to and guide bodily behavior. Very recent work on mapping the fruit-fly connectome has brought us closer to that goal. I talk with neuroscientist Bing Brunton about the connectome, how we can study it to understand bodily motion in flies and other creatures, and where it's all taking us. Not a little low — depleted. And it's quietly behind more of your symptoms than you've ever been told. Brain fog, exhaustion, painful periods, skin issues, poor sleep, mood disorders — before you assume something is seriously wrong, the answer might be as fundamental as what your cells are missing. Caroline Alan is the co-founder and CEO of Beam Minerals, author of The Mineral Reset, and someone who reversed flatlined adrenals, chronic periodontal disease, lifelong insomnia, and gut inflammation — all through minerals. She didn't find this in a doctor's office. Not a single one mentioned it. In this episode, you'll discover:  • Why your electrolyte stick packs may actually be dehydrating you — and the fundamental difference between salt-based minerals and plant-based humic and fulvic minerals  • How fulvic and humic molecules work together to deliver minerals directly into your cells and pull toxins out — a delivery system nature designed 65 million years ago  • Why all cramping — including menstrual cramps — is mineral deficiency in that local area, and how quickly that can change If you've been doing all the right things and still don't feel like yourself, this is the episode that explains why. We're studying Body and Soul, and we're so excited to join Lisa Whittle to get real about Scripture and get real about living out our faith in the bodies we have. Each week, we'll release the next teaching session, and we'll leave all six sessions up through June 8.In this second teaching session, Lisa explores how the incarnation—Jesus's coming to earth as both God and Man—shapes our own whole body theology. What does it mean that Jesus was fully God and fully Man? Why did He choose to take on flesh and dwell among us? How does that form our views of our own bodies? We'll begin to navigate these questions and more in the teaching.LINKBody and Soul Bible StudyRECOMMENDED: In case you missed it, listen to Session One of Body and Soul on Marked.Marked is a podcast from Lifeway Women: https://women.lifeway.com/blog/podcasts/.Hosted by Angie Elkins and Andrea Lennon.

There is an increased awareness recently about bringing somatic-based tools into our therapy practices, mainly because so much of the perinatal experience is influenced by the changes taking place in our bodies. Today's guest explains why a body approach to therapy can help perinatal clients, how perinatal experiences can alienate a woman from her body, and why this type of therapy can be beneficial for those in the perinatal period. Join us to learn more! Dr. Leslie Ann Costello is a psychologist and certified bioenergetic therapist. Originally a preschool teacher, she volunteered as a Lamaze instructor in the 1980s and subsequently studied developmental psychology, with a focus on infant mental health. Professional encounters with pregnancy and infant loss propelled her toward maternal mental health as a career focus. As a freshly minted Ph.D., she landed in a grant-funded prenatal clinic in Louisiana, soaking up experiences that shaped the trajectory of her thirty-year career as a professor, therapist, trainer, and supervisor. Leslie is a mom, step-mom, and grandmother who identifies as an American living in Canada. Her new book, Helping Mothers Helping Babies, is for perinatal therapists who want to bring somatic tools into their work with clients.  Show Highlights: The cultural shift that focuses more on the mother and her somatic experience The “mother first” philosophy in perinatal mental health Respecting the language of body sensation OVER the language of emotion and story Using physical grounding exercises can help with emotional overwhelm. With somatic tools, slower is always better. Not having the language for your direct experience is normal. Dr. Costello's message about the benefits of body-centered healing therapies Understanding somatic interventions The WHAT is more important than the WHY in understanding a body experience. From Complex Trauma to Post-Traumatic Growth: A New Way to Understand CPTSD

You could not think your way out of the pattern. That is not a failure of insight. That is the nature of complex trauma. In this episode, Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristof return to one of the most resonant threads in Trauma Rewired's history: complex post-traumatic stress. Several years ago they recorded a series on CPT that changed how thousands of listeners understood themselves. This is the revision. Not a replacement of what came before, but a deepening, one shaped by advances in trauma research, neuroscience, and by the hosts' own continued growth. The reframe at the center of this episode is one that matters: complex trauma is not a disorder. It is not something wrong with you. It is a predictive nervous system pattern, an intelligent set of adaptations shaped by prolonged relational stress, often beginning in childhood, that made complete sense in the environment they were formed in. The question is not what is wrong with you. The question is what did your nervous system learn and how can it learn something new? Elisabeth and Jennifer trace the history of CPT as a clinical concept, from Judith Hermann's early naming of what PTSD could not capture, through Pete Walker's lived experience framework, into the current neuroscience of predictive patterning, interoception, and the body as the site of both the wound and the healing. They explain why complex trauma has no single memory to point to, why it often lives in sensation and state rather than narrative, and why that means healing looks different here than it does for single-event trauma. The episode also goes deep on something that does not get named enough in healing spaces: the trap of the healing vortex. The way that understanding complex trauma can become its own form of nervous system activation, another thing to fix, another layer to excavate, another reason the system cannot rest. Real growth, they argue, requires repetition and safety and time, but it also requires rest, play, and the gradual experience of being okay in the present moment without urgency. This episode opens the new CPT series and previews what is coming: the inner critic, toxic shame, social anxiety, emotional flashbacks, and self-abandonment, each explored not as pathology but as nervous system strategies that once served a purpose and can now be worked with differently. In This Episode, You Will Learn: Why complex trauma is better understood as a predictive nervous system pattern than a disorder The difference between CPT and PTSD and why that distinction matters for healing Why there is often no single memory in complex trauma, and why the experience lives in the body instead How interoception becomes disrupted in the context of chronic relational stress Why the nervous system seeks familiar environments, even harmful ones, and how that perpetuates the cycle How systemic and cultural trauma shapes the nervous system in the same way interpersonal trauma does What neuroplasticity actually requires: repetition, safety, and time, not insight alone Why pushing too hard into somatic work can backfire, and what pacing actually looks like How the healing vortex keeps people stuck and what stepping out of it makes possible What observer capacity is, why it is one of the most important markers of growth, and how it develops A preview of the five distinguishing characteristics of CPT that will be explored throughout the series     Chapter Markers 0:00 - CPT Shows Up Most Clearly in Relationships 1:13 - Welcome: Revisiting the Complex Trauma Series 2:04 - Why We Are Updating This Framework Now 4:25 - What Complex Trauma Is and Where the Term Came From 6:19 - Judith Hermann, Pete Walker, and Why This Language Matters 7:15 - Why We Use CPT Instead of CPTSD 8:07 - The Distinguishing Patterns: How Complex Trauma Shows Up 10:16 - DSM vs ICD-11: The Diagnosis Question 11:38 - CPT vs PTSD: Different Patterns, Different Healing 13:08 - When There Is No Memory: Implicit Patterning and the Developing Brain 15:20 - CPT as a Predictive Nervous System Pattern 17:09 - The Five Distinguishing Characteristics of CPT 18:07 - Trauma Lives in the Body, Not Just the Story 20:56 - Complex Trauma Is Fundamentally Relational 22:21 - Re-Patterning Secure Attachment Through Somatics 26:35 - Embodied Presence as the Foundation 29:55 - Systemic and Cultural Trauma: This Is Not Only Individual 34:24 - Pacing, Rest, and the Healing Vortex 37:24 - The Role of Play and Pleasure in Nervous System Re-Patterning 41:18 - Building Observer Capacity: The Shift From This Is Who I Am to This Is Happening in Me 43:22 - What Is Coming in the Rest of the CPT Series   Resources and Links NSI Foundations Bundle for coaches and practitioners: neurosomaticintelligence.com/foundations Two week Rewire Trial of guided neuro somatic training: rewiretrial.com Learn more about Elisabeth's work at brainbased.com Learn more about Jennifer's work at her YouTube channel: Sacred Synapse https://www.youtube.com/@sacredsynapse-23 Trauma Rewired podcast  is intended to educate and inform but does not constitute medical, psychological or other professional advice or services. If you've been told your hormone labs are normal but you still feel bloated, moody, and exhausted - this episode is for you.Estrogen dominance is one of the most common hormone disruptions in women, and it's also one of the most misunderstood. Most women have heard the term but don't actually know what's driving it in their body, or why conventional testing keeps missing it entirely. In this episode, I'll walk you through exactly why estrogen builds up in the body, what's blocking it from leaving, and why creating safety in your body is the long-term key to getting your hormones back in balance. What you'll learn in this episode:What estrogen dominance actually means, and the two ways it can show up in your bodyThe difference between making too much estrogen vs. not detoxing estrogen well (and why this matters for how you approach it)The three exits estrogen needs to leave your body: liver, gut, and stress hormonesWhy an overburdened liver is often the first place to look The gut-estrogen connectionHow chronic stress shuts down your detox organs by signaling to your body that it's not safe, and why this is the piece most practitioners missWhy doing more - more protocols, more supplements, more detoxes - doesn't fix this long termSymptoms that may point to estrogen dominance: PMS, mood swings, painful or heavy periods, clotty periods, irregular cycles, breast tenderness, acne, bloating, anxiety, and irregular ovulationWhy your labs keep coming back "normal":Conventional blood testing gives you one snapshot of one estrogen number on one day of your cycle. It doesn't show how estrogen is being made, broken down, or cleared. The Dutch test looks at estrogen metabolites - the actual pathway estrogen is moving through your body - which is how you find out whether this is a production problem, a detox problem, or both.Resources mentioned:Breakfast GuideNourish Tracker - Discount code: HAPPILYHORMONALSend us a text with episode feedback or ideas! Monday of the Fourth Week of Easter (Year A) - The Courage of the Good Shepherd

Read OnlineJesus said: “I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.” John 10:11–13What is it that makes a shepherd “good?” A shepherd's duties require great sacrifice and time. Like a mother who is always attentive to her newborn, a shepherd devotes his time and energies to the care of his flock. In biblical times, shepherds often lived in caves on the outskirts of towns, where there were plenty of green pastures, space for the sheep to roam, and water sources. The caves provided a place of safety at night and shelter from the elements. During the day, the shepherd watched over the flock in an almost fatherly way, knowing that if he were to neglect his duties and become inattentive, a sheep could wander off or fall victim to a pack of wolves.Jesus expands this familiar image to convey an even greater reality of divine love and sacrifice. In today's Gospel, Jesus takes this image of a shepherd to a whole new level. He says: “A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Though this might not have been part of the normal job description of a shepherd, perhaps those who were listening would have made a connection. Some might have understood what Jesus taught in a figurative way, calling to mind the time and commitment shepherds make. And though there is a figurative lesson to be learned, Jesus' teaching was more than that.Jesus first identified Himself as the Good Shepherd. He then defines what that means: He will lay down His life for His sheep. Though His listeners likely missed His meaning, Saint John, while writing his Gospel, fully understood Jesus' words to be not only figurative but also literal—Jesus would die on the Cross for the sins of His sheep. The metaphor continues with Jesus contrasting a hired worker with a true shepherd of his own sheep. In the face of danger, a hired worker flees for his own safety, while the shepherd stands and fights for his sheep, even to death. This clearly depicts what Jesus has done for us, but it also reveals our duty toward all of God's people, His flock. As members of Christ's Body, the Church, we are called to share in His shepherding mission. Our vocations will especially dictate to us ways in which we are called to do so. Parents, for example, must be so devoted to their children that they value their children's lives more than their own. Priests and religious are called to be shepherds who guide and protect their flocks spiritually. Each of us, however, must participate in Christ's shepherding mission in the ways we are called. While the way this is lived will vary, the degree to which it is lived must not. We are all called to lead lives that are sacrificial, selfless, and wholly self-giving. Courageously and completely, we must lay our lives down for others, imitating the Good Shepherd's commitment to His flock. In communion with the Good Shepherd, we are invited to show this courage in daily acts of charity, fidelity to our commitments, and steadfast love for those entrusted to our care. Through this radical love, we reveal Christ's presence to the world and share in His mission to gather all into one fold under the divine Shepherd. As we continue to celebrate the joy of the Resurrection, we remember that this joy was won through the courageous love of our Good Shepherd.Reflect today on Jesus' perfect fulfillment of His mission to be the Good Shepherd. As you ponder His courage, sacrifice, and selfless love, know that He not only acts as the Good Shepherd to you, but He also invites you to share in His shepherding. How courageous are you when given the opportunity to be selfless for the good of another? How willing are you to seek the others' salvation, even at great cost to yourself? Charity is at the heart of Jesus' mission, and that same charity must permeate everything we do as we relate to those whom we are called to love. Honor and thank the Good Shepherd by participating in His mission and laying down your life for God's flock. My Good Shepherd, You have laid down Your life for us, Your sheep, dying a painful death on the Cross. Your courage and sacrifice save us from sin and the evil one, opening the path to eternal life. I accept Your selfless sacrifice in my life and commit to share in that sacrifice by laying my life down for others, so that they will come to know You and share in eternal life. Robert Aramayo was the surprise best actor winner at the BAFTAs this year for his portrayal of John Davidson, a Scottish man with Tourette syndrome. Writer-director Kirk Jones' film is formulaic in its depiction of adversity, but its heart is in the right place. Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson and Scott Ellis Watson co-star. In theaters. The Vertical Relationship Show: Relationship Goals, Prayer, Biblical Counseling, Dating Advice, Christian Marriage & Healing

Did you know open doors give the enemy access to your soul? Many believers don't know that unhealed trauma, "AKA" soul wounds, can quietly give the enemy access to their mind, will, and emotions. Not to mention; their identity in Christ. Unfortunately, many believers have been taught that healing and deliverance are optional or extra rather than essential to becoming whole in Christ. When we ignore God's truth, we often end up managing "symptoms" instead of addressing the spiritual and emotional roots. Unhealed wounds linger. Trauma stays active. Patterns and cycles repeat. Open doors fuel unnecessary warfare and cause havoc to our relationship, healing, and healing progression! If you've been feeling drained, confused, or stuck in vicious cycles that don't align with your faith in Jesus Christ ... Good morning, friend. Let's make today a little more delicious. We've done the deep work of grounding and protecting, and today, I want to treat you. We're moving into the "Ritual" phase of our week. Healing doesn't always have to be "heavy" work; sometimes, the deepest healing happens when we are just being incredibly kind to ourselves. Today, we're layering in some sensory delights to help your body remember how to truly rest. What we're tucked into today: The Alchemy of the Cup: How a simple herbal infusion can act as a "liquid hug" for your nervous system. The Body's Library: A book recommendation to help your mind understand what your heart already knows. The Gentle Reset: A yoga pose that lets gravity do the work of grounding for you. The Day 5 Wellness Toolkit The Herbal Tea: Roasted Dandelion Root This tea is like a warm embrace from the earth itself. It has a rich, coffee-like depth that feels incredibly grounding, and it is a gentle champion for your liver and digestion, helping to "clear the path" for new energy. It's the perfect drink for someone who is ready to let go of the old and make room for the new. The Recommended Book: Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey This book is a beautiful permission slip. It reframes rest not as something you "earn" after you've worked hard, but as a sacred right that allows you to reclaim your humanity. The Yoga Asana: Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclined Bound Angle Pose) Since we've been talking about the pelvic bowl, this is a very gentle way to open that space. Lie on your back with the soles of your feet together and your knees falling open like the pages of a book. Support your knees with pillows so there's no "pulling"—just a soft, nurtured opening. A Little Note for Your Heart You have spent so much of your life being the one who "does." Today, I want you to be the one who "receives." Receive the warmth of your tea, the wisdom of the words you read, and the support of the floor beneath you. You are so very worthy of this quiet. This is day 5 of a 7-day meditation series, "Somatic Healing for the Heart: A Gentle Return from Emotional Exhaustion," episodes 3493-3499. THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE -  THE BAREFOOT MINUTE Once a day this week, go outside and stand barefoot on the earth. Spend exactly 60 seconds noticing the temperature and texture under your feet without checking your phone. This simple act of earthing provides a literal somatic discharge of the static energy we build up from our devices. THIS WEEK'S MEDITATION JOURNEY Day 1: VISUALIZATION: The Deep RootClose your eyes and imagine your spine is like the trunk of a beautiful ancient tree. As you breathe out, imagine tiny silver roots traveling from the soles of your feet deep into the cool, dark earth. Any worry, any To Do list, or any heavy thought simply travels down those roots. The earth is big enough to hold it all for you. You don't have to carry it anymore. You are anchored. You are held. You are safe. Day 2: AFFIRMATION:   "My body is a safe place to land." Day 3: THE PHYSIOLOGICAL SIGH BREATH Two quick inhales through the nose followed by one long, slow exhale through the mouth to instantly "offload" carbon dioxide and signal the brain to relax. Day 4: PRITHVI MUDRA Touch the tip of your ring finger to the tip of your thumb. This mudra is used to increase the "Earth" element, helping to ground a nervous system that feels "airy" or frantic. Day 5: FOURTH (MULADHARA) CHAKRA  Focus on the base of your spine. Visualize a deep, glowing red light that provides a foundation of security and physical belonging. Day 6: SOMATIC RELEASE FLOW MEDITATION: Combining the week's techniques Day 7: WEEKLY REVIEW MEDITATION: Closure with a review of the week's highs and lows. Today’s Topics: William Albrecht  joins Terry for Friday with the Fathers 1) Gospel – John 6:52-59 – The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His Flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For My Flesh is true food, and My Blood is true drink. Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood remains in Me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will have life because of Me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.” These things He said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. Memorial of Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen, Priest and Martyr Saint Fidelis, pray for us! Bishop Sheen quote of the day 2, 3, 4) Terry and William discuss Early Fathers of the Church and how they believed and taught the reality that the Holy Eucharist IS the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ

Do you feel like no matter what you try, your body just won't let go of something? Like it's stuck in a loop you can't think your way out of?This week I sat down with Britt Piper, somatic therapist and author of Body First Healing — someone who's lived every layer of this work. Taken from her mother at birth, she lost her brother at 15, survived a brutal assault at 20, and ended up in a jail cell at 22 — where, stripped of every distraction, her body started shaking, sweating, and crying on its own. She walked out feeling different. That was her turning point. Here's what blew my mind: Britt said alcohol wasn't her problem. It was her body's solution. A nervous system doing the only thing it knew to survive pain that had never been processed. She revealed that nervous system regulation has nothing to do with staying calm. A healthy nervous system moves between activation and rest about 100 times a day — and when you suppress that natural movement, unexpressed emotion builds like a pressure cooker of stress hormones, eventually showing up as chronic inflammation, autoimmune conditions, even disease. And she dropped something I haven't been able to stop thinking about: when you hold onto anger toward someone who hurt you, you're not putting them in a cage. You're putting yourself in one. After hearing this, you'll never look at your triggers — or your stuck feelings — the same way. What we talk about:Why trauma isn't what happened to you — it's where your body got stuck in the responseHow intergenerational trauma travels through your DNA for at least three generationsThe nervous system ladder and why fluctuating between states 100 times a day is actually healthyWhat happens in your body when you suppress anger, grief, or fear (hint: it doesn't disappear)The armor analogy — why we survive trauma and then forget to take the protection offWhy you literally cannot think your way into nervous system regulationThe 3E formula — Experience, Express, Expel — for discharging stored stress hormones in real timeWhy nervous system hacks won't stick if you're doing them from a place of self-hatredEpisode Links & Resources:Britt Piper's Website: https://www.bodyfirsthealing.com/Body First Healing Book: https://www.bodyfirsthealing.com/the-bookInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/healwithbritt/Connect with Tracy:Website: https://tracyduhs.com/Hydration Shop: https://sanctuarysd.com/Instagram: @tracyduhsFlow FAM Community: https://tracyduhs.com/join-flow-fam/

This 17-track project continues the folk-pop and Americana sound established on the 2022 breakthrough album Stick Season while introducing new elements including increased piano presence and rock-pop detours, most notably on “American Cars.”The album explores deep themes of family trauma, sobriety, mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, and body dysmorphia, identity, hometown disconnect, and the tension between fame and personal authenticity. Unlike Stick Season, The Great Divide expands beyond Kahan's personal perspective to incorporate multiple viewpoints, anchored by the recurring motif of small-town life versus global success. Key tracks include the lead single “The Great Divide,” which addresses fear, mortality, and existential reflection, alongside “Doors,” “Paid Time Off,” “Dan,” “23,” “Deny Deny Deny,” “Porch Light,” “Dashboard,” and “Haircut.”Production credits feature Gabe Simon and Aaron Dessner, with recording sessions held in Nashville and Upstate New York. The project is positioned as a direct successor to Stick Season rather than a radical reinvention, praised for its strong songwriting and emotional depth while drawing comparisons to Taylor Swift's pop structures, Don Henley's tone, Bon Iver, Zach Bryan, and Mumford & Sons.Analytic Dreamz examines the accompanying documentary Noah Kahan: Out of Body, which provides additional context on Kahan's mental health struggles, writer's block, and personal philosophy of confronting rather than curing his challenges. The segment also covers the 2026 The Great Divide Tour, a North American arena and stadium run launching June 11 in Orlando and concluding August 31 in Seattle, with multiple sold-out dates including a four-night Boston residency at Fenway Park.Ticket demand has driven high pricing, with resale values reaching up to $13,198 in Boston, while base tickets start around $220. Analytic Dreamz analyzes how this project represents Noah Kahan's transition into a stadium-level headliner while maintaining his “regular-guy” relatability and authentic storytelling. This segment provides comprehensive insight into the album's thematic ambition, commercial momentum, and cultural positioning as a key 2026 release in folk-pop and Americana. Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Cravings can feel almost impossible to resist—whether it's something sweet, salty, or just tempting in the moment. Yet, there is a simple and somehow satisfying way to stop yourself or at least eat less of what you are craving than you might otherwise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habituation Your body works in amazing ways. For instance your immune system acquires intelligence over time, how you breathe can have a big impact on preventing disease, and the benefits of human touch are extraordinary. Dr. Giulia Enders, physician, star of the Netflix series Hack Your Health, and author of Organ Speak: What It Really Means to Listen to Our Bodies (https://amzn.to/4tyaxn9), explains how these and other hidden processes work—and how understanding them can help you live healthier and feel better. Arguments have a way of escalating quickly. Once emotions take over, people often double down, defend themselves, and say things that make the situation worse. But there's a very different approach that can calm someone down much faster. Doug Noll, mediator, adjunct professor at Pepperdine University's Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution and author of De-Escalate: How to Calm an Angry Person in 90 Seconds or Less (https://amzn.to/4cCqJy1), explains how to respond in a way that reduces tension, diffuses anger, and leads to more productive conversations. Resistance exercise is important for everyone. And when it comes to lifting weights, many people wonder if speed matters—should you lift fast or slow? The answer isn't as complicated as you might think, but it does depend on what you're trying to achieve. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25601394/ Learn more about your ad choices.
