What if food is doing far more than providing calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat? What if every bite is actually delivering information to your genes, cells, microbiome, and biological systems? In this fascinating solo episode, Darin challenges the century-old idea of viewing food simply as fuel and explores what happens when we begin seeing food as biological information. From carrots resembling eyes and walnuts resembling brains to nutrigenomics, plant compounds, biophotons, structured water, living enzymes, and the microbiome, Darin dives into the hidden layers of food that never appear on a nutrition label. He explores established research alongside emerging and controversial areas of science, explaining why the freshness, color, diversity, and wholeness of what we eat may matter far beyond its calorie count. Darin also reveals why "eating the rainbow" is really about consuming a wider library of chemical information and why feeding your gut microbes may be just as important as feeding yourself. This episode will completely change the way you look at what's sitting on your plate. What You'll Learn Why Darin believes the calorie model leaves out some of food's most important biological effects How nutrients and plant compounds can influence gene expression through nutrigenomics and epigenetics Why Darin describes every meal as sending a "memo" to your DNA What biophotons are and the emerging research around light emitted by living cells and foods Why fresh, living foods may carry information that heavily processed foods have lost The theory of structured or "exclusion zone" water in living foods What happens to naturally occurring enzymes when foods are heated and processed Why the colors of fruits and vegetables correspond to different families of protective plant compounds How your food communicates with the trillions of microbes living inside your gut Why dietary diversity and fermented foods may help create a healthier, more resilient microbiome Chapters 00:00:00 – Welcome to SuperLife 00:00:32 – Sponsor: Bite 00:02:47 – The hidden clues sitting inside your food 00:03:22 – Carrots, tomatoes, and walnuts: coincidence or clues? 00:04:13 – Why we've been too busy counting calories 00:04:39 – Food is information 00:04:47 – Why the calorie model leaves out the bigger picture 00:05:14 – Your body isn't a furnace 00:05:48 – How food communicates with your cells 00:06:25 – Nutrigenomics: how food talks to your genes 00:06:53 – Every meal can influence gene expression 00:07:22 – What memo are you sending your DNA? 00:07:52 – The strange science of biophotons 00:09:03 – Why fresh food emits different light than processed food 00:09:37 – Where biophoton research stands scientifically 00:10:26 – Structured water and the fourth phase of water 00:12:00 – What processing may do to water inside food 00:12:37 – Sponsor: Manna Vitality 00:14:35 – The controversial theory of food enzymes 00:15:18 – What we know about enzymes in raw and sprouted foods 00:15:37 – The hidden information missing from nutrition labels 00:15:58 – Can the color of your food unlock your potential? 00:16:16 – Why "eat the rainbow" is chemistry, not mysticism 00:16:38 – Anthocyanins and the power of purple, red, and blue foods 00:17:27 – Color is the plant's natural label 00:18:20 – Every color sends your body a different message 00:18:50 – The problem with the modern "beige diet" 00:19:14 – You're feeding 38 trillion microbes, not just yourself 00:19:46 – How gut bacteria transform fiber into powerful compounds 00:20:25 – The extraordinary conversation between plants and your microbiome 00:21:05 – Why plant diversity matters for immunity, mood, and hormones 00:21:31 – The Stanford fermented food study 00:22:02 – What fermented foods did to microbiome diversity and inflammation 00:22:30 – Ultra-processed food, inflammation, and what's coming next 00:22:45 – Continue the full deep dive on Patreon 00:23:24 – Closing thoughts Thank You to Our Sponsors Bite Toothpaste: Go to trybite.com/DARIN20 or use code DARIN20 for 20% off your first order Manna Vitality: Go to mannavitality.com/ and use code DARIN12 for 12% off your order. Every bite carries information—through nutrients, plant compounds, color, fiber, enzymes, and the interactions it creates with your microbiome. Read OnlineMarriage and Divine UnionSome Pharisees approached Jesus, and tested him, saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause whatever?” He said in reply, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate.” Matthew 19:3–6In Jesus' time, divorce was a controversial and divisive issue. Two prominent schools of thought offered opposing views: The followers of Rabbi Hillel permitted divorce for trivial reasons, while the followers of Rabbi Shammai allowed it only for serious offenses. In today's Gospel, Jesus does not side with either group. Instead, He elevates the conversation by pointing back to God's original design for marriage, revealed at the beginning of creation.Jesus reminds us that God's intention for marriage is the permanent and sacred union of man and woman—a covenant, not merely a contract. When the two become “one flesh,” it is not only a physical union but also a spiritual and ontological reality: A new creation comes into being through the marital bond.Today, many people misunderstand the sacredness of marriage. Many marriages falter for a variety of reasons. This is partly because the ideal of marriage is demanding and requires deep personal sacrifice. True love—caritas, or charity—goes far beyond emotion and affection. It calls for the complete gift of self, radical selflessness, and unwavering commitment. When lived according to God's design, such love yields rewards that far surpass the trials it entails. But when relationships are clouded by selfishness, resentment, unforgiveness, or sin, they often unravel, leaving behind pain and regret.Saint Paul refers to marriage as “a great mystery,” likening it to the union between “Christ and the Church” (Ephesians 5:32). This is more than a metaphor; it is a theological truth. Every baptized person is called to be part of the Body of Christ and to share in the eternal Wedding Feast of the Lamb. The saints and mystics refer to this as “spiritual marriage”—the soul's union with Christ in Divine Love. The path to such divine union is rigorous. It demands the total gift of oneself to God. Every sin and attachment to sin must be stripped away by grace—and by our cooperation with that grace. This purifying journey prepares the soul for Mystical Marriage, a lasting and unbreakable union with God.Just as the heights of sanctity are reached only through great effort, so too is the perfection of marriage—or any relationship. This can feel daunting, but it should not lead to discouragement. Rather, it should inspire us with hope and resolve. Whether in marriage, friendship, or our relationship with God, we must pursue the ideal with zeal. Sanctity does not happen overnight, and neither do holy relationships. All require perseverance, humility, and grace.Jesus' teaching on marriage challenges us, but it is full of promise. It offers hope because it affirms that the grace needed to live this vocation comes as a gift from God in the Sacrament of Matrimony. For those called to marriage, and who receive and cooperate with this grace, the reward is nothing less than divine communion and eternal joy. To reach this end, we must transcend our natural limitations and rise above self-interest, fear, and the desire for comfort. This vocation requires a lifelong commitment to sacrificial love, fidelity, and perseverance, even amid trials and suffering.Reflect today on your vocation and how well you live the depth of love to which you are called. Whether you are married or celibate, trust in God's providence and resolve to live not by the standards of the world, but by the wisdom of the Kingdom of Heaven. Such a calling can only be fulfilled by grace and by hearts courageous enough to say “Yes” to that grace, day after day. Resolve to say “Yes,” and your reward will be great. My loving Lord, the charity that flows from Your Sacred Heart is pure and holy, radiating throughout Your entire Church. Draw me ever deeper into that love, so that I may receive You into my life and radiate Your love to others. Help me and all Your children to love You with all our hearts and to love one another, so that we may be perfectly united in You. Jesus, I trust in You. Most trauma has a place you can avoid. Medical trauma lives inside your body, so there is nowhere to go. Dr. Aimie sits down with Dr. James Jackson for the second half of their conversation on medical trauma. What will surprise you is how much recovery is available while the symptoms are still present. This is Part 2 of a two part conversation. Part 1 is here. ➡ Full show notes + resources: https://bit.ly/BOT190 Dr. Jackson works with people recovering after critical illness, and he is direct about something most clinicians avoid saying. Patients have been taught that recovery means every symptom is erased. That standard fails most bodies. He offers a different measure, along with the markers that actually move. Dr. Aimie also shares why she left general surgery residency after four years, and the one question she started asking her patients that changed everything about how she practiced. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: 02:55 — Why do you carry the source of a medical trauma with you? 05:35 — What is acceptance and commitment therapy? 06:37 — How can you be fine right now? 07:09 — Why did Dr. Aimie leave general surgery residency? 08:17 — What happens when you ask a patient what their diagnosis means to them? 11:40 — Why should no one else decide what counts as a big trauma? 13:33 — Why is overselling recovery a problem? 14:46 — What does a rich recovery actually look like? 15:32 — What are the objective markers that recovery is happening? 17:02 — How should we talk about post-traumatic growth? 20:22 — Why can no one recover from medical trauma alone? "If the trauma happened in your body, you're carrying that around. You're carrying it around, and you can't avoid it. It's always there." — Dr. James Jackson If you have quietly decided you are not recovering because something still hurts, this episode is for you. In this episode of Behind the Bite, Dr. Cristina Castagnini sits down with therapist, educator, and author Tamie Gangloff to explore the profound intersection of chronic illness, eating disorders, and substance use. After being diagnosed with scoliosis as a child and struggling with the shame of being told she had a "deformity," Tamie developed a deeply distorted relationship with her body and food, eventually turning to alcohol as a way to cope with severe self-consciousness. Through an open and honest conversation about her non-linear journey—which involved medical trauma, multiple spinal surgeries, and navigating inadequate insurance coverage—Tamie shares how identifying her underlying medical PTSD was the key to unlocking true recovery. This episode serves as an insightful resource for anyone seeking to understand how physical ailments shape identity and why professional, trauma-informed support is essential on the path to healing. In Day 190 of The Ways of the Righteous (Gate of Fear of Heaven), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe continues exploring the three dimensions of the human soul: the nefesh, ruach, and neshamah. While animals possess the drives of the nefesh and ruach, only human beings are endowed with the neshamah—the uniquely Divine intellect that enables us to discern truth from falsehood, develop wisdom, and elevate ourselves spiritually. Unlike the physical body, the wisdom acquired by the neshamah accompanies a person beyond this world. The central message of the lesson is that our lives are shaped by whichever part of ourselves we choose to nourish. Rabbi Wolbe compares the neshamah to a vacuum cleaner that is constantly searching to be filled. If we fail to satisfy it with holiness, Torah, mitzvot, and acts of kindness, it will desperately seek fulfillment elsewhere through material pursuits that can never truly satisfy. Wealth, pleasure, fame, and possessions may entertain the body, but only closeness to Hashem nourishes the soul.Rabbi Wolbe also explains that although the neshamah originates in the intellect, its goal is to transform the heart. The heart is the source of both positive and negative inclinations, and every person chooses which side to strengthen. By allowing the mind and the neshamah to guide the heart, a person redirects powerful emotions and desires toward holiness rather than selfish gratification. The same passion that can drive destructive behavior can also become the engine for tremendous righteousness. Finally, the lesson teaches that wisdom is the key to understanding both the physical and spiritual worlds. Torah enables a person to distinguish between what merely appears attractive and what genuinely brings eternal value. Every advancement, talent, and technology can be used either for holiness or for destruction. The responsibility lies with us to allow our neshamah to lead our choices so that, when we ultimately stand before Hashem, we can answer that we invested our lives in what truly mattered._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on February 23, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on August 13, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! You can do everything right on paper — track perfectly, cut the calories, white-knuckle your way through the week — and your body will still hold onto weight if your nervous system doesn't feel safe. In this episode, the final S in the SUCCESS method, we're talking about stress. Because safety gets decided in your body before your brain ever gets a say, and when your nervous system perceives danger, willpower and discipline become nearly impossible. I'm walking you through why this shows up hardest in the evenings, what's really happening when you reach for the Cheez-Its in the car, and the one tool that shifts your nervous system more than any breath work class ever will. This is the last episode of the 6S method series. If you're just joining, go back through the previous episodes where I cover each of the S's and the whole weight loss resistance series.IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:Why "stress" and "nervous system dysregulation" are the same thing — and why the label matters less than what it's doing to your bodyHow safety gets decided in your body before your brain gets a say, and why that makes willpower feel impossibleWhy dysregulation shows up hardest in the evenings, when your capacity is lowestThe classic dysregulation pattern: undereating all day, then munching your way through the evening on comfort foodMy definition of stress: too much energy going out, not enough coming in — and why dieting always reads as stressful to the bodyHow you can be in a calorie deficit and still have your body feel safer than beforeWhat chronic stress does to your hormones — cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone — and why that leaves you exhausted and unable to build muscleWhy breath work, meditation, and journaling are tools to feel regulation, not long-term fixes on their ownWhy awareness is the single most effective nervous system practiceWhy strategic nutrition is still the one thing that helps your body feel safe most consistentlyHow stress is actually the S you have the most control overTIMESTAMPS:00:00 Welcome back — the final S in the SUCCESS method00:30 Why I use "stress" and "nervous system dysregulation" interchangeably01:30 How stress connects to your body feeling safe or unsafe03:41 Why willpower becomes impossible when your nervous system feels unsafe04:35 Why dysregulation hits hardest in the evenings05:30 The Cheez-Its-in-the-car pattern, explained07:00 The classic cycle: undereating by day, munching by night10:00 My definition of stress: energy in vs. energy out11:00 Why you can feel better in a nutrient-dense deficit12:24 What chronic stress does to your hormones and energy14:52 Breath work, somatics, and meditation: what they're actually for16:00 Why awareness is the most effective nervous system tool19:00 Bridging the mind and the body (and why neither works alone)19:51 Why strategic nutrition is the most consistent path to safety22:11 The S you have the most control over23:04 How stress ties every other S together23:40 Inside Well Nourished and getting on the waitlistTHE TAKEAWAY:Every S in the SUCCESS method feeds one thing: your nervous system's perception of safety. Stress isn't the S that takes control over you — it's the one you have the most control over, because it becomes manageable when you give your body what it needs. So much of the stress we carry comes from living out of alignment with who we actually are: saying yes when we mean no, performing wellness instead of being well. When your body feels safe, it stops holding onto body fat. It really is that simple.GET ON THE WELL NOURISHED WAITLIST:Everything in this series comes together inside Well Nourished, my six-month body recomposition program. We take all six S's and build them into your actual life — with coaching, personalized plans, and awareness work so your body finally feels safe enough to let go. We stop performing wellness and actually become well.Enrollment opens in September, and the waitlist is open right now. Get your name on it, and you'll be able to schedule a consultation right away so you know exactly what the timeline looks like and how to come in fully ready:
When your body begins changing during perimenopause and menopause, the fitness industry's answer is usually predictable:Eat less.Cut the carbs.Skip breakfast.Fast longer.Do more cardio. But what if eating less isn't actually the strategy your body needs? In Part 3 of Menopause in the Light, Coach Alex Van Houten turns to nutrition—and challenges the idea that midlife health is simply about making the number on the scale smaller.Menopause changes physiology, but it doesn't erase physiology. Energy balance still matters. But so do muscle mass, protein intake, sleep, training, insulin sensitivity, food quality, recovery, and the hormonal changes influencing where and how your body stores fat.The goal isn't just weight loss. The goal is to build and maintain a woman who is strong, capable, metabolically healthy, resilient, well-nourished, and ready to serve. In this episode, Coach Alex breaks down:Why dramatically cutting calories can backfire during menopauseThe difference between weight loss and improving body compositionWhy protein becomes increasingly important as women ageA practical strategy for getting enough protein throughout the dayWhy carbohydrates aren't the enemyThe difference between food and fuelHow whole, nutrient-dense foods can simplify your nutritionFiber, calcium, vitamin D, healthy fats, and bone healthIntermittent fasting and when it may—or may not—serve youWhy breakfast can be a powerful opportunity for better nutritionAlcohol, sleep, and taking an honest inventory of your habitsCreatine and supplements during menopauseIron considerations during perimenopauseWhy you should be skeptical of products promising to “balance your hormones”How husbands and families can support women without becoming the “food police”A biblical perspective on food, gratitude, self-control, and stewardshipCoach Alex also offers a simple framework for building meals:Start with protein. Add plants. Add fuel according to your activity. Pay attention to your fats.Nothing exotic. Nothing magical.Just a repeatable strategy that can still work next year.As 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us: “Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God.”Food isn't God.Food isn't the enemy. It's provision—and something we are called to receive with gratitude and steward with wisdom.TAKE THE NEXT STEPIf you're navigating perimenopause or menopause and know it's time to make a change, Coach Alex wants to help you identify where you are now and what deserves your attention first.Go to: faithfulfitness.co/menopauseComplete the Faithful Fitness Assessment and claim your seat for the upcoming live seminar. You'll learn how to take your current starting point and build a practical plan for getting meaningful results over the next 30 days—without miracle supplements, crash diets, or internet gimmicks.Take the assessment and reserve your seat: faithfulfitness.co/menopauseNext week: Menopause in the Light, Part 4 — hormone replacement therapy, sleep, sexual health, supplements, peptides, medical care, and how to know when it's time to ask for more help.Train hard. In this episode, I explore a recent paper published in Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience titled "The Body Does Not Keep Score: Trauma, Predictive Coding, and the Restoration of Metastability." I break down how this research challenges Bessel van der Kolk's famous metaphor that the body "stores" trauma, offering instead a neuroscience lens focused on prediction error and brain flexibility. Rather than viewing trauma as something physically trapped in fascia or muscle, we look at how the brain becomes rigidly fixed in predicting danger—and what it actually takes to update those predictions. I also connect these scientific concepts directly to what I see clinically in my biomechanics and yoga therapy practice. I share how introducing small, objective movement changes creates a "prediction interruption" that helps clients break out of binary thinking around pain and relief. By acting as a movement detective and tuning into the body's subtle "yellow lights" and "whispers," you can create novel sensorimotor experiences that give the nervous system the concrete evidence it needs to move from persistent pain into real possibility.
We live in a world where we're more connected than ever before, yet so many people feel profoundly disconnected. We text instead of talk. We scroll instead of connect. We consume endless information, but often struggle to simply be present with another human being. What does it really mean to be human? In this episode of Cacao Conversations, we explore the subtle ways we've drifted away from the very experiences that make us feel alive—eye contact, touch, presence, curiosity, wonder, and authentic connection. We talk about: * why so many people feel disconnected despite being constantly connected * the hidden cost of screens, busyness, and constant stimulation * what we're losing when we stop being fully present with one another * the difference between gathering information and experiencing life * why loneliness isn't just about being alone * simple ways to reconnect with yourself and the people around you Maybe the answer isn't becoming more productive, more successful, or even more spiritual. Maybe it's remembering what it means to be fully human. New episodes of Cacao Conversations drop weekly. Sip. Connect. Awaken. Hey! Thanks for listening! Redefining Love, Long Distance, and Returning to the Nest (Season 6 | Episode 251) When Amir and I sat down with Jennifer and Chris for this episode, I knew we were in for something special. There is a quiet, profound sweetness in the way these two understand each other—a connection honed not by daily routines in the same living room, but through years of intentional presence across continents. As open nesters, so many of us are searching for ways to rewrite our stories once our kids begin to fly, and Jennifer and Chris offer a breathtaking map of what happens when you dare to choose an unconventional path. Open Nesters Podcast Ethical Non-Monogamy in Midlife Long-Distance Polyamory Relationships Navigating Relationships with Adult Children Redefining Intimacy and Relationship Design Their story began decades ago as high school sweethearts who eventually went their separate ways, traveled the world, and reconnected later in life via long-distance emails and letters. What struck me immediately was how they built a foundation of compersion—that rare, beautiful feeling of genuine joy for your partner's happiness outside of yourself—long before they even attached a label to their relationship. By the time they officially stepped into an adult relationship together, they had already learned how to cheer each other on from afar, establishing a deep sense of trust that would soon be tested and expanded in ways neither expected. When Jennifer brought up the idea of exploring ethical non-monogamy, it wasn’t a reckless leap; it was a conscious invitation to growth. For Chris, taking those first steps into polyamory while separated by an ocean was a radical, challenging shift that required deliberate inner work. They immersed themselves in books, attended meetup groups, and established dedicated two-hour check-ins to hold space for the hard, uncomfortable conversations. Through navigating long-distance dating, time zone hurdles, and emotional friction, they discovered that opening their relationship didn’t pull them apart—it built an indestructible framework for radical honesty and deep self-awareness. What I love most about their dynamic is how fluidly they allowed their relationship to evolve. After several years of practicing polyamory, both Jennifer and Chris found themselves naturally transitioning back toward a committed, monogamous bond. Their time exploring open relationships wasn’t a “failed experiment”—it was a transformative bridge that taught them how to express their desires, set healthy boundaries, and bring a renewed sense of erotic novelty and intimacy back to each other. It's a powerful reminder that we have full permission to design our relationships in seasons, choosing what serves our growth at any given stage of life. This spirit of openness inevitably ripples into our homes and how we show up for our adult children. Both Jennifer and Chris recently experienced the unexpected gift of having their adult daughters move back home—Jennifer's 26-year-old daughter for ten months, and Chris's daughter while pursuing her PhD in Germany. As parents, watching our children navigate their own adult transitions allows us to model a life of continuous self-discovery. By letting go of traditional expectations in our own lives, we create a supportive, judgment-free space where our children feel safe to grow, return, and eventually take flight again. As we move through midlife, there is so much grace in giving ourselves permission to ask for what we need, whether that's in the bedroom, in our careers, or in our living arrangements. Aging doesn’t mean settling into static routines; it's an invitation to step out of the “vanilla” defaults society hands us and try something new from the menu. When we embrace the pauses, practice active listening, and give ourselves grace, we realize that midlife isn’t about holding onto control—it’s about opening our hearts to whatever rich experiences are waiting for us next. Reframing “Addiction” If there's one takeaway from my conversation with Jennifer and Chris, it's that there is no single right way to be an open nester. Whether you are navigating long-distance longing, rethinking your relationship design, or welcoming adult kids back into your spare room, the secret lies in savoring every season for what it is. I encourage you to pause, listen closely to your partner and yourself, and step boldly into your next chapter. What is one area in your relationship or life where you could give yourself more permission to grow this week? Recorded live at SOMA 26Dr. Emily Johnston (Cascadia Mountain Institute) and SFC Ezequiel Mendoza (Arctic Dustoff, Fairbanks) deliver a hard-hitting, field-validated look at how standard tactical medical gear and medications actually perform—and fail—in true Arctic and extreme cold conditions. Drawing from cold-soak testing, simulated combat exercises, and real operational experience, they break down battery and fluid-warmer failures, rapid freezing of IV tubing and blood sets, medication storage realities, tourniquet performance, and the critical need for early frostbite interventions like ibuprofen and iloprost far forward. Practical fieldcraft solutions, insulation strategies, and clear calls for better-designed cold-weather medical systems are front and center.Key TakeawaysNo electronic or mechanical medical device (IV pumps, Buddy Lite warmers, etc.) can be trusted to operate unprotected in Arctic conditions—insulate everything, including fluids and tubing.Fluids and tubing freeze extremely quickly and become brittle; passive warming solutions using insulated containers + chemical heat packs can keep fluids viable for many hours even at –20°F to –30°F.Body heat (base-layer transport systems worn against the skin) is the only reliably consistent way to prevent medication freezing during multi-day cold operations; outer pockets, med boxes, and sling packs routinely fail.Current blood administration sets create major clotting and failure points in the cold; shorter, fully insulated, or redesigned kits are needed. Most common tourniquets performed adequately after freeze-thaw cycles; metal windlasses held up better than plastic ones under extreme cold.Reperfusion injury is the dominant mechanism of tissue loss in frostbite. Early NSAID (ibuprofen) loading and rapid iloprost administration dramatically improve outcomes, yet cold-chain and far-forward delivery of iloprost remain unsolved problems.Manufacturer claims about extreme-cold performance often do not match real-world Arctic testing. Independent field validation is essential before relying on any device or medication in these environments.Chapters00:00 – Introduction & Arctic strategic context04:45 – Operational realities: long evacuation times and limited cold-weather experience06:00 – Battery and device cold-soak testing (IV pump & Buddy Lite)09:20 – Functional testing: frozen pumps, ruptured warmer cartridges, and fluid output11:40 – Practical insulation and pre-warming techniques for fluids13:40 – Medication transport failures vs. base-layer body-heat solutions18:50 – Blood product challenges and call for redesigned cold-weather kits20:20 – Tourniquet performance after freeze-thaw cycles21:15 – Frostbite pathophysiology and the critical role of early ibuprofen + iloprost27:20 – Path forward: needed research, device redesign, and medication stability after freezing29:40 – Closing remarks and Q&A discussionFor more content, go to www.prolongedfieldcare.orgConsider supporting us: patreon.com/ProlongedFieldCareCollective or www.lobocoffeeco.com/product-page/prolonged-field-care

I'm officially 41, so I'm sitting down for a solo episode to talk about everything that has changed—and everything I know now—when it comes to looking and feeling my best.I'm sharing how my approach to beauty has changed in my 40s, the treatments I'll never stop doing, the one in-office treatment I'd choose if I could only do one, and the beauty trends I'm officially over (plus one you will absolutely never catch me participating in). I also get into how completely different my approach to fitness is now, why I'm working out less, how I've changed my body composition without dieting, and some of my more controversial fitness opinions.Plus, I'm getting into the wellness trends I can't do anymore, the advice I personally don't follow, what we were all doing to stay skinny in the early 2000s, and the things I know to be true now that I'm in my 40s. Basically: what's actually worth doing, what I've stopped wasting my time on, and what makes me look and feel better at 41 than I did a decade ago. Thanks to my sponsors:Visit ProlonLife.com/BLONDE to get 15% sitewide.Get 15% off at BON CHARGE by using code BLONDE at www.boncharge.com.Head to Nutrafol.com and use code BLONDE for $10 off your first subscription and free shipping.Head to paleovalley.com/well, or use code well at checkout for 15% off your first purchase.Visit www.Sarahcrealbeauty.com/well to get 15% off your first order.Go to ladder.fit/WELL for a 7-day free trial and $10 off your first month.Visit resortpass.com/well to get $20 off your first booking of $100 or more. This episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. It's never been easier to do ministry alone. With AI, social media, and endless platforms, we can build an audience without ever building the Body. But that's not the vision we find in Scripture. In this Staff Talk, Francis reflects on the growing pull toward independence and why followers of Jesus are called to something far more difficult: depending on one another. God's Kingdom isn't built by isolated individuals, but by a people who choose unity over personal influence.
How do you invent a human being from scratch to fool an enemy's intelligence apparatus? Operation Mincemeat wasn't just a military distraction, it was a masterclass in psychological manipulation. MI5 and Naval Intelligence meticulously crafted "Major William Martin," creating a paper trail of love letters, theater stubs, overdue bills, and fabricated top-secret memos attached to a dead man's wrist. --For early, ad free episodes and monthly exclusive bonus content, join our Patreon! In this special DanceSpeak x No Starving Artists crossover episode, we sit down with Moncell Durden for a candid conversation about the International Dance League and some of the bigger questions its inception brings to the dance community. Through Moncell's perspective, we dig into what dancers can consider when new professional opportunities emerge, from sustainability and understanding contracts to asking better questions before signing on the dotted line. This isn't legal advice, but rather an invitation for dancers to think critically, stay curious, and better understand the opportunities in front of them. A thoughtful conversation about IDL that ultimately asks a bigger question: how can dancers become more informed participants in their own careers? Stay tuned and subscribe, as this is the first in a series! Learn more about the No Starving Artists Podcast https://nsadance.com/ Learn more about Moncell https://www.moncelldurden.com/
We're quick to blame genetics for our health and wellness issues, but the reality is that genetics only makes up 18% of our health destiny. That means the rest is up to us. Our guest today, Dr. Grant Zarzour, has seen that first hand in his own family. When his son was diagnosed with moderate autism, he and his wife refused to accept the predictions for his future. They dove head first into the data and in so doing, revolutionized not just their son's life, but their own. Now a relentless proponent of diet, sleep, and exercise for physical and mental health, Dr. Zarzour feels like we all have a hand in our own destiny. We just have to commit. Dr. Zarzour is a practicing hip and knee surgeon in Mobile, AL. He is the president of the largest orthopaedic practice in Alabama. While treating thousands of patients a year, Grant has developed a passion for preventive medicine. In 2024, he founded Sperity Health, which offers personalized longevity coaching to help its members improve their diet, exercise, and sleep with expert MD guidance. Sperity Health's mission is to lower its member's risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and dementia by up to 50% based on data and science.
Many people dream of hunting in the Alaska wilderness, and for most, it is the adventure of a lifetime. However, a few unlucky hunters never return from their adventure. As I've said many times, Alaska is big, rugged, and beautiful but also dangerous, from raging rivers to high seas to rugged mountains and ice fields marred by deep crevasses. Moose, bears, and wolves all present risks, and the extreme cold in the winter can cause frostbite or hypothermia in a matter of minutes. What Trading Can Learn From The Body Keeps the Scorewith Steven Goldstein and Mark RandallA trader knows the right move — and physically can't make it. This episode is about why, and what trauma research reveals about performing under financial risk.Bessel van der Kolk's The Body Keeps the Score has become required reading in trading circles — not because trading is trauma, but because the same nervous system mechanics trauma research has mapped in detail also govern how traders behave under pressure. Steven Goldstein and Mark Randall break down five lessons from the book and translate each one directly into the language of risk, drawdowns, and decision-making under threat. What you'll learn• Why the rational, decision-making part of the brain goes offline under perceived threat — and why “just follow the plan” fails in the moment• How neuroception, the nervous system's unconscious scanning for danger, shows up as physical sensation before a trade goes wrong• Why a single catastrophic loss can fragment a trader's whole sense of self, not just their P&L• Why journaling and post-mortem analysis alone rarely change behavior — and what bottom-up, body-based work adds• Why co-regulation with another person, not solo reflection, is often what lets a dysregulated nervous system reset“The market doesn't care about your story, but your body is keeping score whether you're listening to it or not.”Timestamps0:07 — Cold open — welcome back1:00 — Setting up the book & Lesson 1: The rational brain goes offline under threat13:38 — Lesson 2: The body knows before you do30:13 — Lesson 3: One bad hit can fragment the whole story41:20 — Lesson 4: Talking about it isn't enough on its own50:53 — Lesson 5: Safety in relationship is what lets the system recalibrate1:02:54 — Close & sign-offResources mentioned• The Body Keeps the Score: Mind, Brain and Body in the Transformation of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk• thealphamindpodcast.com — full back catalog and where to subscribeThe AlphaMind Podcast explores the behavioral and human side of taking and managing risk, hosted by Steven Goldstein with Mark Randall. Signature Style Systems ~ Certified Personal Stylist, Image & Color Consultant, True Colour Expert
Every system in the style world is built to sort you into something. None of them are built to actually see you. There's a quote from stylist Kimberly Parry worth sitting with: when image is done right, it becomes your three second resume. People form an idea of who you are before you open your mouth. Most systems answer that with a type. Body type, color season, archetype. Stack enough of them and the read gets closer. It rarely gets exact. There's a different way archetypes get used, one built to dissolve a complex rather than assign a category. I share my own story with this one, moving from a Cinderella kind of role in someone else's story to something entirely outside that hierarchy. Discovering your Signature Style is the most effective way to be read accurately before you ever speak. This episode walks through three different ways archetypes function, and what it looks like to build a read that comes from you specifically, not a system built for thousands of people at once. Let's connect! Book your profiling session: The Congruence Code. Want to learn more about how to discover your Style DNA? Visit my website. What happens when we stop accepting the stories we've been taught about sex, gender, bodies, desire, and pleasure—and start questioning who those stories actually serve? In this episode, we're joined by Ericka Hart, M.Ed. (she/they), a trauma-informed, consent- and pleasure-based sex educator who has spent the past 15 years teaching comprehensive sex education at the elementary, high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Ericka is the founder of Sex Ed as Resistance, author of Nasty Work: Resist Systems, Explore Desire and Liberate Yourself, and co-host, alongside her partner Ebony, of the critically acclaimed podcast Hoodrat to Headwrap. Ericka's work challenges us to think differently about sexuality—not simply as something we learn about, but as something deeply connected to power, culture, history, identity, and liberation. Together, we explore how traditional sex education has failed to give many of us the tools to understand our bodies and desires, and how societal and colonial ideas about sex and gender continue to shape who is allowed to experience pleasure. We unpack the history of consent and what it means to define consent beyond a simple “yes” or “no,” particularly when it comes to access, agency, and pleasure. We also talk about reclaiming desire on our own terms, body positivity and the people left out of mainstream beauty and sex-appeal standards, and practical ways we can begin to challenge the messages we've internalized about our bodies. This is a conversation about unlearning, resisting, exploring, and imagining something better—a world where sexuality education isn't about shame or fear, but about agency, pleasure, consent, and liberation. In this episode, we explore:• Why “education meets agitation” is at the heart of Ericka's work• Rethinking traditional sex education through Nasty Work• The impact of societal and colonial views on sex, gender, and pleasure• Consent, its history, and its relationship to access and agency• How to reclaim desire on your own terms• Body positivity, beauty standards, and who gets left out• Tools for reconnecting with your body and pleasure• What a radically different future for sexuality could look like• Ericka's work, Sex Ed as Resistance, and Nasty Work Learn more about Ericka and her work at ihartericka.com. Wabi Sabi - The Perfectly Imperfect Podcast with Candice Kumai
What actually keeps your body fit for decades? In this episode of the Wabi Sabi Podcast, I'm sharing the workouts and wellness practices I have returned to for nearly 30 years, from barre, Pilates, cycling, yoga, surfing, swimming and strength training to the practice I now consider my special sauce: meditation. I break down the science behind what really helps your body stay strong, mobile and resilient over time, why consistency matters more than quick fixes, and why training your nervous system may be just as important as training your muscles. After nearly three decades in modeling, fitness, food and wellness, I have seen trends come and go, but the practices that truly last are usually the simplest ones. This is a candid conversation about movement, longevity, body image, recovery, meditation and what it really means to take care of yourself for the long haul. Thank you for listening! Please share with two best friends. x Candice

In this episode the guys break down exactly how women over 30 can lose fat and build the body they actually want. They cover why the methods that worked in your 20s are no longer effective, why life stress is actually the biggest enemy (not age), and why building muscle and getting stronger is the single thing that changes everything. They walk through the three key steps — feeding the gains with whole foods and enough calories, making strength the goal rather than the scale or the mirror, and replacing cardio with walking — and back it all up with real client stories including a woman running 25 miles a week and lifting 5 days a week who was stuck at 24% body fat, and how Adam helped Katrina achieve the best body of her life eating 700-800 more calories than ever while doing zero cardio.
