“The Killing Cell” is an awesome found footage film that's been tearing up the festival circuit with awards and nominations! Writer/director/producer and actor Karsen Schovajsa and his crew pulled together a nostalgic horror flick that captures the same eerie energy as “Hell House LLC” and “Grave Encounters.” I was lucky enough to check out a screener, absolutely loved it, and had to bring Karsen onto the podcast to talk all about the making of this soon-to-be cult hit! Make sure to follow TheKillingCellMovie, DeadRenegadeFilms, ScreenSanctity (James Bessey, co-director)and Karsen_Thomas3 for updates on the film. The trench coat is back, the mask is on, and Ben Reilly is officially back in the web-slinging saddle—even if his superhero rust just accidentally saved a mob boss. This week, we are breaking down a massive double-header: Episode 2 ("Tread Lightly") and Episode 3 ("Double Cross") of Spider-Noir.We dive deep into the expanding, gritty landscape of 1930s New York, tracking the clues from Flint Marko's ransacked apartment all the way to the Hooverville raids.Inside This Week's Briefing:The Relapsed Hero: Ben poses as a spectacled plumber to get his gear back, puts Silvermane on notice, and then... completely ruins a police stakeout. We break down that glorious, chaotic car-surfing action sequence and Nic Cage's peak Bogart voice.Sympathy for the "Villains": Spider-Noir is flipping the script on classic Spidey rogues. We react to the live-action debuts of a deteriorating Flint Marko (Sandman) and Lonnie Lincoln (Tombstone) being portrayed as tragic, protective figures rather than outright monsters.Robbie Robertson on the Beat: Robbie gets a firsthand look at the corruption plaguing the city, only for the Daily Bugle to twist the narrative into anti-powered propaganda. We discuss how deep Mayor Morris and Silvermane's ties really go.Cat Hardy's Double Game: Is she a client, a victim, or the mastermind who leaked the liquor transfer in the first place? We map out the clues pointing directly back to The Alcove.Listener Question of the Week: How do you feel about the show turning Sandman and Tombstone's comic book reputations into in-universe political propaganda? Hit us up in the comments or drop us a review with your theories!Don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe to the feed. Tread lightly out there, listeners.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

And Hug From A Happy Boy”. Playliste: Katinka - Bare rolig Zar Paulo - I ærmet Ulige Numre - Du skal ikke gå alene mere Michael Jackson - Workin' day and night Editors - Call it in Addison Rae - Fame is a gun Lars H.U.G. & Lisa Ekdahl - Backwards Lars H.U.G. - Happy boy Lars H.U.G. - Waterfall The Rolling Stones - Harlem shuffle Janet Jackson - What have you done for me lately Whitney Houston - Greatest love of all Robert Palmer - Addicted to love Pet Shop Boys - West End girls Zar Paulo - Klap for fædrelandet
Send us Fan MailIt's calm seas and second helpings of strawberries this week as the TGTPTU boys cover their third of four curated Edward Dmytryk films, the multiple Oscar-nominated picture THE CAINE MUTINY (1954). Saving its then “issues” producer (and subsequent to this movie an issues director) Stanley Kramer's bacon, Dmytryk delivered a bona fide hit picture adapting the already popular book by Herman Wouk about a fictional mutiny during WWII among American seaman upon the titular Caine. Deviating from the Broadway courtroom play starring Henry Fonda (who'll show up in next week's Dmytryk film), the movie hews closer to the novel depicting on screen and in glorious Technicolor events aboard the ship leading to the mutiny, leaving the theatrical adaptation's courtroom drama for the third act. The movie would also add Yosemite National Park as a romantic getaway between its Ivy League, very mid, blonde protagonist and POV character Ensign Willie Keith played by a now relatively unknown Robert Francis who died tragically at age 25 after a plane crash and his character's fiancée May Wynn played by May Wynn who changed her stage name to that of her character on the recommendation of Kramer. And for more on the plot, there's IMDB, Wikipedia, and further resources on the World Wide Web if you don't have a great-grandpa around to ask. The film would have seven Academy Awards nominations and no wins, with Bogart losing out to Brando (and Kramer to Spiegel) for On the Waterfront. This episode Ken and his metaphor get sweaty towards the ep's end; Ryan reveals the thuggish life of Joan Didion; and Gen Z'ers Jack and Thomas settle the TGTPTU style guide dispute over how to pronounce “gif.” And now for an important announcement:Despite what your lying ears have heard, there has never been a recorded mutiny on TGTPTU. The truths of each episode lie not in their incidents, but in the way these three hosts in the battle for the Pacific Northwest meet the crisis of their lives. Now sound the Star Trek Original Series whistle, we're coming onboard. As renovations are nearing their end, I figured I would release another un-cut episode! Arguably one the biggest name in zombie history, John A Russo is one of the last people alive who co-created “Night of the Living Dead.” I was head over heels listening to his stories, and I could have gone on for hours, but sadly, John only gave me 30 mins. This interview took a political turn that didn't make the original cut, and listeners have noted that out convo ends abruptly. But, that's how it was! Although the story of “Night” has been told thousands of times, this is the first time I have ever heard it first hand and I'll cherish this memory forever. Check out some uncut Classics, and soon I'll be dropping new episodes. If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. Title: Navigating the Latest in Sci-Fi: Insights from Episode 503 of the Podcast4Sci-Fi In the latest episode of the Podcast4Sci-Fi, hosts Moose and Gamegod dive into a range of exciting topics, from the latest developments in streaming to the intriguing world of comic book adaptations. This episode is packed with insights and entertaining banter that sci-fi fans won’t want to miss. IntroductionAs the landscape of entertainment continues to evolve, the Podcast4Sci-Fi keeps listeners updated with the latest news and opinions in the world of science fiction and fantasy. In episode 503, Moose and Gamegod tackle everything from corporate maneuvers in streaming to the unique takes on iconic characters like Spider-Man. If you’re a lover of all things sci-fi, this episode is sure to resonate with your interests. Corporate Drama in StreamingOne of the major topics discussed is Paramount’s aggressive strategy in acquiring Warner Bros. properties. Gamegod shares insights about the staggering $108.4 billion cash deal, along with additional fees that have raised eyebrows across the industry. “They’re paying everything. There’s something here. Paramount might be onto something,” he remarks, highlighting the urgency and scale of this acquisition. Moose agrees, emphasizing that Netflix’s reluctance to accept such a deal is puzzling. The conversation reveals not only the financial stakes involved but also the competitive nature of the streaming wars. The hosts dissect what this could mean for future content and subscriber engagement, providing a vivid picture of the current state of the industry. Nicholas Cage’s Unique Take on Spider-Man NoirThe episode takes a fascinating turn as the hosts discuss Nicholas Cage’s upcoming role in the live-action adaptation of Spider-Man Noir. Cage describes his character as a blend of “70% Bogart and 30% Bugs Bunny,” which raises eyebrows from both Moose and Gamegod. Moose questions the effectiveness of such a unique combination, stating, “I mean, if that’s how he sees it and that’s how he’s portraying it, okay. But do you see Spider-Man Noir as like that?” Gamegod expresses skepticism, wondering if this direction will resonate with fans who are more accustomed to traditional superhero narratives. The hosts collectively contemplate the challenges of translating animated styles into live-action formats, making this discussion not only relevant but also thought-provoking for listeners who are keen on superhero films. Steam Machine TroublesShifting gears, the duo discusses the challenges faced by Valve’s Steam Machine, a new gaming console that aims to bridge the gap between PC gaming and console accessibility. Gamegod shares his enthusiasm for the Steam Deck, while Moose admits his device has become more of a bookshelf accessory than a gaming console. Their light-hearted banter about their experiences with the Steam Deck adds a relatable touch to the conversation, reminding listeners that not all tech innovations fulfill their promises. Conclusion and Key TakeawaysIn episode 503 of the Podcast for Sci-Fi, Moose and Gamegod provide an engaging blend of industry analysis, character exploration, and personal anecdotes. Key takeaways from this episode include: The intense competition in the streaming industry, as exemplified by Paramount’s aggressive financial strategies. The potential challenges faced by adaptations of beloved characters and how creative interpretations can sometimes lead to skepticism. The ongoing evolution of gaming technology and its reception by consumers. Listeners are left with plenty to ponder, making this episode a must-listen for sci-fi enthusiasts who want to stay informed about the latest trends and discussions in their favorite genre. EPISODE 129 - “FRANK LOVEJOY: CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH” - 3/02/2026 I think many people know that one of our favorite films is In a Lonely Place (1950). Directed by NICHOLAS RAY, this film noir is the tragic story of a love affair unraveling at the hands of doubt and distrust. It stars HUMPHREY BOGART and GLORIA GRAHAME in roles that would be career-defining. However, adding quiet strength to the film is FRANK LOVEJOY, who played Brub Nicolai, Bogart's ex-army buddy turned private investigator. In the film, Lovejoy is not flashy, nor does he attempt to steal scenes, but he is so solid, so decent — he becomes the moral compass and Greek Chorus that helps define the narrative. What was so wonderful about Lovejoy was just how ordinary he was. He was Everyman. Square-jawed, no-nonsense, he looked like your Dad, or your uncle, or your local butcher. He wouldn't stand out in a crowd, but he brought such humanity and decency to every role he performed. You may not know his name, but you certainly know his face. So this week, we are going to dive into the life and career of FRANK LOVEJOY, an unsung hero of classic cinema, and our Star of the Month SHOW NOTES: Sources: Wikipedia.com; TCM.com; IBDB.com; IMDBPro.com; Movies Mentioned: Black Bart (1948), starring Yvonne DeCarlo & Dan Duryea; Home of the Brave (1949), starring James Edwards & Lloyd Bridges; In A Lonely Place (1950), starring Humphrey Bogart & Gloria Grahame; South Sea Sinner (1950), starring MacDonald Carey & Shelley Winters; Three Secrets (1950), starring Eleanor Parker, Patricia Neal, and Ruth Roman; Breakthrough (1950), starring John Agar & David Brian; The Sound of Fury (1950), starring Frank Lovejoy, Kathleen Ryan, & Richard Carlson' Goodbye My Fancy (1951), starring Joan Crawford & Robert Young; Force of Arms (1951), starring Wiliam Holden & Nancy Olson; I'll See You In My Dreams (1951), starring Doris Day & Danny Thomas; Starlift (1951), starring Gary Cooper & Doris Day; I Was A Communist For The FBI (1951), starring Frank Lovejoy & Dorothy Hart; Retreat, Hell! Three years ago I interviewed my friend and occasional ACL contributor Gabe Bogart for Episode 29, our anniversary episode. We had such a good time we talked about doing a podcast called SLEPT ON IT, and so I sat on this episode for years, waiting for us to get off our asses and make it happen. No one ever asked why episode 30 was missing, so it feels right for an episode with this title to turn up years later. We discuss adventurous listening, the dangers of nostalgia, the hip hop renaissance of the 2020s, and much more. Illuminating and captivating, New York Times bestselling author of Tinseltown and Bogart offers the first definitive account of the Black Dahlia murder—the most famous unsolved true crime case in American history—which humanizes the victim and situates the notorious case within an anxious, postwar country grappling with new ideas, demographics, and technologies. The brutal murder of Elizabeth Short—better known as the Black Dahlia—in 1947 has been in the public consciousness for nearly eighty years, yet no serious study of the crime has ever been published.Short has been mischaracterized as a wayward sex worker or vagabond, and—like the seductive femme fatales of film noir—responsible for and perhaps deserving of her fate. William J. Mann, however, is interested in the truth. His extensive research reveals her as a young woman with curiosity and drive, who leveraged what little agency postwar society gave her to explore the world, defying draconian postwar gender expectations to settle down, marry, and have children. It's time to reexamine the woman who became known as the Black Dahlia.Using a 21st-century lens, Mann connects Short's story to the anxious era after World War II, when the nation was grappling with new ideas, new demographics, new technologies, and old fears dressed up as new ones. Only by situating the Black Dahlia case within this changing world can we understand the tragedy of this young woman, whose life and death offer surprising mirrors on today.Mann has strong opinions on who might've killed her, and even stronger ones on who did not. He spent five years sifting through the evidence and has found unknown connections by cross-referencing police reports, District Attorney investigations, FBI files, court documents, military records, and more, using the deep, intense research skills that have become his trademark. He also spoke with the families of the original detectives, of Short's friends, and even of suspects, and relied on advice from experienced physicians and homicide detectives.Mann deftly sifts through the sensationalized journalism, preconceived notions, myths, and misunderstandings surrounding the case to uncover the truth about Elizabeth Short like no book before. The Black Dahlia promises to be the definitive study about the most famous unsolved case in American history.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Hosted on Acast. We continue this episode with To Have and Have Not, a 1944 production directed by Howard Hawks. In this film, Bogart plays a sport tourism fisherman who's asked to use his boat to assist the French Resistance in Martinique. He meets up with Marie "Slim" Browning (Lauren Bacall) and that's where the fireworks started, both on and off screen. If you don't know how to whistle, Bacall offers up a fine lesson for you. COMING ATTRACTIONS: Next time, we take our first foray into silent films, with DW Griffith's Intolerance, from 1916, and Liberty Heights, from 1999, directed by Barry Levinson. These films were made in response to criticisms of earlier films from those directors. Join us, won't you?
Casablanca is a film that Sean and I have wanted to cover for a long time, but there was a little bit of a struggle to find a good film to pair it with. Not because there were so few, but because there were so MANY. Finally we came up with focusing on Humphrey Bogart himself rather than on the overall theme of the film. And then there was the realization that Bogart had a couple of films where he was a reluctant hero in a World War Two setting, with the key word being "reluctant." So we open with Casablanca, from 1942, directed by Michael Curtiz. Hal Wallis got the rights to the play just a few weeks after Pearl Harbor, so it wound up having a much bigger impact than it might have had before we entered the war. In Part Two, we see how Howard Hawks would handle a reluctant hero.
Luke, Matt, and Westy are on the case as we head to 1940s San Francisco for John Huston's genre-defining noir. We're talking Bogart at his most iconic, a directorial debut that shouldn't have worked, and one of the great Hollywood MacGuffins. We dig into how a first-time director got the best out of Hollywood's most difficult star, why this third adaptation finally cracked it, and the ensemble cast that made every scene crackle. My next short, “The Dinner” has approved for crowdfunding at Seed&Spark! Check out the link here to learn how you can be a part of the film. Since I'm building my podcast studio, I've decided to unearth some old interviews and release them unedited. The Chiodo Bro's were interviewed on June 23, 2020 and it truly was a lot of fun. Like a lot of people in their 40's and older, I grew up watching “Klowns,” “Ernest Scared Stupid” and “Critters,” so this was like interviewing my childhood icons. The brothers talk in-depth about the history of the Klowns, and where all their inspirations come from. I had a lot of technical difficulties recording this episode, so I had to hack out the first 10 mins, but eventually it all worked out. At the time, there was no talk about a “KIller Klowns” reboot or sequel. So some of the information which is stated has changed. If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. I do free movie giveaways, mini movie reviews and more! Also, I decided to dabble in making my own slasher film called “Bishop's Day”. Check out the Instagram page for updates. We continue our spotlight series of Hollywood heavy hitters who put in time as radio detectives. This week, it's a legend of classic cinema - Humphrey Bogart, star of Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, and so many more iconic films. Bogart headlined Bold Venture, a syndicated mystery-adventure series set in the tropics. His co-star was no less than his real-life wife, Lauren Bacall. We'll hear a pair of syndicated Bold Venture mysteries - "The Tears of Siva," "The Mystery of the Mary K." Plus, Bogie stars in the audition for what would have been his own anthology drama Humphrey Bogart Presents. In this audition recording, Bogart hosts and appears in an adaptation of James M. Cain's story "Dead Man."
Artspeak Radio, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, 9am -10am CST, 90.1fm KKFI Kansas City Community Radio, streaming live audio www.kkfi.org Producer/host Maria Vasquez Boyd welcomes Miller Bogart, curator/gallery owner Gallery Bogart and artists Garry Noland and Lily Madden. Drawing inspiration from the legendary collecting ethos of Herb and Dorothy Vogel, who amassed a world-class collection within the confines of a 450-square-foot Manhattan apartment, this exhibition challenges the assumption that monumentality equates to significance. The presentation features apartment-sized works by nine distinct emerging and mid-career voices: Napoleón Aguilera, Amanda Banker, Madeline Brice, Hector Dorantes, Monica Figueroa, Juan Diego Gaucin, Lily Madden, Gibran Mendoza, and Garry Noland. A Note for Collectors: Unlike a static exhibition, The Second Installment is designed to take a living form. Works are available for immediate acquisition and release, allowing the installation to evolve in real-time throughout the run. As pieces are collected and depart, the gallery environment will shift to reflect the fluidity of a true domestic space. Gallery Bogart 1400 Union Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64101 Exhibition Dates now through January 31, 2026 GARRY NOLAND-My studio practice is multi-disciplinary. The one constant is an openness to rough patches, glitches or mistakes. The presence of edges or boundaries between mistakes establishes immediate contextual and formal relationships. Those abutments mime our interaction with art and with each other. What goes with what? What happens on either side of the line? What's good and who decides? Sometimes I am the boss of the material but just as often the material, by virtue of a chance arrangement, for example, will tell me what needs to be done. These particular works are made of found and reclaimed materials from alleys, side street, thrifts and dumps. The base materials are combined with new materials. The resulting combination sets up the inevitable dialogue between the new/old: purposeful/accidental and play/toil. Art puns and mimes the systems and appearances we experience in both the non-human and human parts of nature. The oft-quoted role of the free press is "to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted". Art's first cousin role then is to find the mundane in the grand and the grand in the mundane.
