We are a group of instructors within our fields of fire, EMS, law enforcement, medical, and military. As a close circle of friends that predates our careers, we began working to bring better quality training, awareness, and sensibility to our fields in the areas we saw lacking and thus our companies were born. At the helm of this podcast is the owner of ARES; Robert Roy. The team is rounded out by High Risk Rescue owner and fire/EMS/law enforcement extraordinaire, Justin Miller, as well as Fire Chief and paramedic Chase Edwards. We have collectively accumulated over 50 years of experience across all aspects of first response, both in the military and civilian worlds, and are here to mentor, train, and help guide both new and old first responders as the world continues to change around us and new equipment, technology, and tactics become mainstream. We have special guests from all walks of life that intersect with that of the first responder, including agencies such as FEMA, the FBI, and other experts such as medical directors, emergency medicine physicians, medical scientists, nursing scientists, and more!
Moving on from our segments on resiliency and stress management, the new EMS career field climate survey was just released and there is actually a good amount of information to dissect! Join us as we talk about some of the findings straight from the streets themselves! Chase Edwards joins us again to talk about some of the successes and failures we're seeing in the field, as well as some ideas on what can be done to fix some present issues. Some of these topics are hot! So feel free to comment to us or reach out on social media, email, etc with your thoughts and opinions! You can find the climate survey on the National Association of EMTs website at https://www.naemt.org
Concluding our coverage of the four pillars of resiliency, we're finishing up with the spiritual pillar! This pillar can be one of the hardest to understand and apply in ways other than religion, because that's how it's so often viewed. So tonight we're going to (try) to stay on topic and discuss ways you can apply the spiritual pillar to your life, even if you don't happen to be a religious type. #GivingTuesday is today! We tried to get the podcast out before today so we could get the announcements out but if you have any ability to help with donations or exposure (by sharing our podcast and social media posts!) we greatly appreciate anything! Our fundraising is going to continue from today until the end of the year so if you didn't get a donation in on the designated Tuesday, we are still very happy for anything you can do! This may be our only podcast before the Christmas holidays so if we don't publish again before then, please enjoy your holiday season spending time with family and loved ones!
Continuing our coverage of the four pillars of resiliency, we're moving on with the mental pillar! Typically, we teach this pillar with an emphasis on learning new skills and such to keep your mind sharp and occupied, but there's more to it than that. So tonight we have special guest Mrs. Bonnie Miller! (Some possible relation to Justin from what I hear). We did have some connection issues during the recording of this podcast and so some of Mrs. Miller's responses get choppy and unclear but ultimately we felt that the information in the episode was too good to risk losing in a retake so we kept it as originally recorded. Please keep an eye out for Mrs. Miller's upcoming podcast, Mind Matters! Her extensive background in topics like tonight's episode can be a huge benefit to anyone who may need help with the struggles of life. Some other things mentioned in the podcast include a book recommendation from Mrs. Miller on the subject that can be a fantastic read, and we will post the link to it here in the description shortly!
In today's episode of the ARES After Hours Podcast, we continue our discussion of the pillars of resiliency with the second pillar; the social pillar! This one had to be recorded twice due to microphone difficulties on the first take, but in the new and improved version, we have guest speaker William "Joey" Seal! Updates and announcements in this episode bring attention to the new nonprofit, the ARES Responder Relief Project! This organization is brand new and will raise money to provide scholarship opportunities for public safety training, financial relief for injured first responders, and assistance to underfunded organizations such as fire departments for safety equipment and supplies. Join in and let's continue to try and bring light and awareness to ways we as first responders (and people in general) can stay resilient when life tries to knock us down.
Episode 1 of 4 for the Pillar of Resiliency. We discuss ways we have found throughout our career to be able to focus on various aspects of resiliency in order to keep pushing forward when life tries to get us down. This episode is all about the physical pillar! Exercise, active lifestyles, and good nutrition can be difficult in our career field, but not impossible!
Chase Edwards comes on board with us tonight to talk about his progress through the fire service and military, and how technology has shaped the way we learn and access training in the 21st century.
Uncensored and uncut! (mostly because we don't yet know how!) The first episode is just Justin and I going unscrypted to talk about who we are, how we got into the career field, and what led us to where we are with our companies today. We hope you enjoy and stick around!
