We were delighted to speak to Chris Carr for our latest International Relations episode, when we feature a non-Romani guest doing great things we think the Romani community should know about. Chris Carr is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary conceptual artist, photographer, emcee, educator and instrumentalist. In 2010, he founded Brooklyn Wildlife, a creative arts incubator specializing in independent art and music. He hosts podcasts and interview series, and has organized hundreds of live events and performances. He's spent twenty years playing music and has toured more than half the country. Along with Melissa Hunter Gurney, he co-founded the art space Gamba, the GAMBAZine publication, and Black Land Ownership. He leads Diversity and Inclusion workshops and developed Curating the Classroom to help schools deactivate systemic oppression. He is intrigued by the history of cultural expression, power relationships, semiotics, post-modern sociological theory, and interpersonal dynamics. His work takes on themes of normalcy vs. deviancy, alternative culture, social inequality, and the metaphysically interstellar. You can learn more about him and Black Land Ownership at https://www.chrisbankscarr.com/This episode features samples from Chris Carr's music, including "Rose on the Veil" by Low Wave featuring Concetta Abbate, and "Gravitational" by Stonehenge ParnhashnakovskyThank you for listening to Romanistan podcast. You can find us on Instagram @romanistanpodcast, and on Facebook under the same name, and on Twitter @romanistanpodWe started a Ko-fi fundraiser to help us expand. Chris Carr is a multi-faceted conceptual artist who has many talents, and wears many hats. He co-founded Brooklyn Wildlife with Keith Lay www.facebook.com/brooklynwildlife and throws a huge summer festival every year, which attracts musicians and fans from all over the world. He also co-runs the Greenpoint Brooklyn arts space and zine, Gamba Forest and Gamba Zine. He is a photographer, an emcee, producer, musician and many other things that I could list, but the point is, he is an amazing, multifaceted creative force. He is a very important voice in Brooklyn, and I believe the world should here his voice too.

In its latest podcast, Beyond the Margin introduces you to the exciting and eclectic world of GAMBA. GAMBA stands for Generating Authentic Momentary Boundless Art, and is the brainchild of founders Melissa Hunter Gurney and Christopher Carr. Melissa is a Brooklyn-based independent writer who dabbles in painting when the characters she creates in her novels and stories drive her to the brush. Her written work (which she describes as “fiction because there is no truth”) explores the multi-faceted aspects of being a woman and an artist in today’s world. Chris is the quintessential Brooklyn indie artist. He’s a photographer, an emcee, and the founder of Brooklyn Wildlife (an event planning/creative firm specializing in indie/alternative art and music). As a creative partnership Melissa and Chris founded GAMBA Magazine, GAMBA Z’s Artist Residency and GAMBA Forest (an art gallery and event space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn). In this podcast host Michael Shields makes a visit to the GAMBA Forest to learn more about Melissa and Chris’s art and inspirations, as well as the bountiful and diverse events held in the Greenpoint, Brooklyn art space. Michael, Melissa and Chris dive into the early days of GAMBA Magazine (including the charming story of how the founders met!), the challenges of combating norms in art and life, motivations and process in creating, Chris’s recent life-altering bike accident and much, much more. So come along and join us for another trip Beyond the Margin and into the heart of GAMBA.Subscribe to Across the Margin: The PodcastCheck out Across the Margin for further amazing stories & much, much more! Burlesque. Hip-hop. Performance art, dance troupes. Heavy metal, DJs. Fire spinners. Punk rock, indie rock. “Nudity is unity.” To catch a Brooklyn Wildlife production is to surrender to a single concept — freedom — and the platform reflects the artist behind it, Chris Carr. Chris started Brooklyn Wildlife with his longtime musical collaborator Keith Lay in 2011 as a way to promote artistic expression outside of conventional, often commercial channels. His current hip-hop project — he performs under the name Stonehenge Parnhashnakovsky — operates under similar assumptions. As a result, Chris takes care not to label himself as a certain style of rapper. This episode features one of his recent tracks, "Live From The Bottomless Pit," plus two songs from one of his earliest recording efforts (circa 1999), and a live in-studio freestyle.
