Mark Haddon might be best known for his 2003 breakout novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. But it's only the tip of a body of work that stretches across genres and artforms. He's the author of three other adult novels, including The Porpoise and two collections of short stories. Dogs and Monsters came out last year. He's also written poetry and plays. Before The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Mark wrote over a dozen children's books. He's also an illustrator and visual artist. Out this month is Leaving Home: A Memoir in Full Colour, which gives us access to his amazing mind and provides one roadmap into the creative process (recognizing there are an infinite number of roads). He joins Marrie Stone to talk about his insights into the craft including using constraints to enhance creativity, why he no longer uses flowcharts to map his work, how the flow state in writing differs from visual art, how writers' childhoods are different, and how he leaned into his writing weaknesses to produce The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Reena Shah is a writer, editor, and teacher. She has been awarded fellowships and residencies from the Millay Arts, Tin House, and the Fulbright Foundation. What does it really mean to shape European policy? From 5–8 February 2026, students in Košice experienced it firsthand. Model European Union brought together 60 high school students from across Slovakia for an immersive, English-language simulation of EU decision-making. Stepping into the roles of Members of the European Parliament, EU Commissioners, and national representatives, they debated pressing topics such as the EU–Mercosur trade agreement and the Green Claims Directive tackling greenwashing. Organised by BETA Slovakia in cooperation with FUTURUM Bilingual High School, and supported by the European Parliament Liaison Office in Slovakia, the event blended dynamic debate with real-world insight. We spoke with participating students, as well as Veronica Anna Lacová, President of BETA Slovakia, and Ján Haraslín, Community Manager at the EP Liaison Office in Bratislava. The programme was further enriched by the opening address of the Vice Mayor of Košice and by discussions with MEPs Katarína Roth Neveďalová and Michal Wiezik, who engaged directly with students about the work of the European Parliament and the importance of youth participation in European democracy.

What does it really mean to shape European policy? From 5–8 February 2026, students in Košice experienced it firsthand. Model European Union brought together 60 high school students from across Slovakia for an immersive, English-language simulation of EU decision-making. Stepping into the roles of Members of the European Parliament, EU Commissioners, and national representatives, they debated pressing topics such as the EU–Mercosur trade agreement and the Green Claims Directive tackling greenwashing. Organised by BETA Slovakia in cooperation with FUTURUM Bilingual High School, and supported by the European Parliament Liaison Office in Slovakia, the event blended dynamic debate with real-world insight. We spoke with participating students, as well as Veronica Anna Lacová, President of BETA Slovakia, and Ján Haraslín, Community Manager at the EP Liaison Office in Bratislava. The programme was further enriched by the opening address of the Vice Mayor of Košice and by discussions with MEPs Katarína Roth Neveďalová and Michal Wiezik, who engaged directly with students about the work of the European Parliament and the importance of youth participation in European democracy.

Nečakaný a o to cennejší triumf našich reprezentantov nad favorizovaným Fínskom hneď v úvode turnaja vyvolal v krajine obrovskú vlnu eufórie. Práve táto hokejová horúčka bola ideálnym impulzom, aby si Julo a Muťo do novej časti podcastu Striedame! pozvali hosťa, ktorý o emóciách, národnej hrdosti a tvrdej hokejovej drine vie svoje - Michal Hudec.Michal Hudec, ktorý je štvornásobný majster republiky a ikona bratislavského Slovana, prináša pohľad človeka, ktorý zažil hokej v jeho najrýdzejšej podobe.Výsledkom je strhujúca jazda jeho kariérou, ktorá vás zoberie priamo do útrob šatne počas slávnej výlukovej sezóny, ale aj k mantinelom, kde lietali päste a emócie ďaleko za hranicu pravidiel. Michal Hudec v rozhovore s ľahkosťou a jemu vlastným vtipom spomína na časy, kedy sa hokej na Slovane „rezal a mlel” od prvej minúty a súperi chodili do Bratislavy s rešpektom už len kvôli menu domáceho tímu.Ústrednou témou, ktorá dodnes rezonuje medzi fanúšikmi, je jeho legendárny konflikt s košickým brankárom Miroslavom Šimonovičom. Michal Hudec v podcaste detailne opisuje genézu tejto rivality, ktorá nevyvrcholila len na ľade, ale mala dohru aj v chodbách štadióna. „Zrazu, keď dostane ‚kraula' od Šimonoviča po hlave, tak... Ja nemám rád nespravodlivosť,” spomínal Michal Hudec na momenty, kedy emócie definitívne pretiekli.S úsmevom však dodal, že po zisku titulu v Košiciach ho museli k autobusu sprevádzať policajti: „Došli štyria po mňa, odprevadili ma k autobusu, lebo som vedel, že ma ľudia čakajú vonku.”Rozhovor sa však netočí len okolo bitiek. Michal Hudec s obrovským rešpektom vyzdvihuje osobnosti ako Zdeno Cíger či Richard Kapuš, ktorí formovali jeho hokejovú identitu. Pripomína nezabudnuteľnú éru, kedy sa hviezdy z NHL vracali na slovenské klziská a priniesli so sebou moderný hokej, ktorý fanúšikov dvíhal zo sedadiel.Dnes sa Michal Hudec nachádza v úplne inej pozícii – ako regionálny manažér buduje hokejové zázemie v Malackách. S rovnakou vášňou, s akou kedysi strieľal góly, teraz bojuje za správnu výchovu mládeže a snaží sa vrátiť hokeju komunitný rozmer. „Chcem, aby sa moje deti hrali,” hovorí o svojej filozofii, pričom otvorene kritizuje nezdravý tlak niektorých rodičov na výsledky.Ak chcete vedieť, ako sa z „gangstra z Ameriky” stal vizionár, ktorý chce zmeniť mentalitu slovenského športu, tento rozhovor si nemôžete nechať ujsť.
