Patti Smith, “the Godmother of Punk,” has lived a wild life and accumulated so much wisdom in the process. In the 1960s and '70s, Smith was a fixture of the New York City creative scene — hanging out with the likes of Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Allen Ginsberg and Robert Mapplethorpe. Merging her own poetry with an ace backing band, she became a global rock star. Then she gave it up, moved to Michigan, raised a family, and remade herself into a best-selling author. Her stunning memoir “Just Kids” won the National Book Award and is one of the books that I've kept returning to, again and again. There is clearly something unusual about Smith. People who know her have described her as “shamanistic.” But even for those of us who will never become rock stars, there's something inspiring — and oddly relatable — in how she thinks about life. So I was excited to have the opportunity to sit down with her and learn more.Smith is out with a new memoir, “Bread of Angels,” and is on tour for the 50th anniversary of her breakthrough album, “Horses.” We talk about that book and that album and so much more: the boundless curiosity that drives her; the books that shaped her; her childhood communion with a snapping turtle; what Andy Warhol was like; what color she thinks the soul is; and a lot more that's hard even to describe. This episode contains strong language.Mentioned:“Pan's Labyrinth” by Guillermo del ToroGrimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm GrimmBread of Angels by Patti SmithJust Kids by Patti Smith“The Dark Blot” by Gérard de Nerval“Genie” by Arthur Rimbaud“Guernica” by Pablo Picasso“The Last Supper” by Andy WarholBook Recommendations:The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo CollodiFrankenstein by Mary ShelleyThe Poetry of Sylvia Plath Edited by Claire Brennan2666 by Roberto BolañoThoughts? Welcome to Episode 151 of Wrestling Tonight, powered by G FUEL and Dick Lazers — use code TAVERN for 20% off. Acefield Retro is riding solo this week, and there's plenty to sort through across all three major promotions. AEW heads into Newark for Full Gear 2025, approaching the event as a marker for where the company stands heading into the new year. A steel cage world title match, a women's rivalry reaching its conclusion, the introduction of a new championship, and the lingering fallout from last week's Blood & Guts — including the first women's version of the match — give this show a lot of moving parts. AEW is promoting Full Gear as a "supercard," and the layout suggests they're aiming to steady the direction heading into 2026. In TNA, Turning Point left the company with more questions than answers. Frankie Kazarian's cash-in, the situation surrounding Mike Santana's weekend, and another NXT appearance have made the ongoing crossover angle feel increasingly unsettled. The matches were strong, but the overall perception of TNA's trajectory continues to be a topic of discussion. Over in WWE, the biggest story is straightforward: John Cena has completed the Grand Slam, and the "Last Time Is Now" tournament has begun. A mix of returning veterans, familiar rivals, NXT talent, and established stars are competing for the spot in what is expected to be Cena's final match. With three-hour SmackDowns returning and adjustments happening up and down the roster, the tournament is already influencing the company's direction. This week also brought the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame announcements, always a point of conversation regarding criteria, regional voting, and modern representation. Plus: NXT roster movement, reports of tension in AEW's locker room, Bound for Glory attendance concerns, notable returns on Raw, and even Punk and Roman Reigns appearing in upcoming Disney projects.
On this episode of P Is for Punk, we dive headfirst into the return of one of Chicago's darkest and most influential punk bands: Alkaline Trio. After a six-year gap, the Trio dropped Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, an album that's equal parts urgent, melodic, and unapologetically bleak in the best way. We break down the band's history, the era that led to this record, and why this album marks both the end of one chapter and the rebirth of another. Spin Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs wherever you get music. I'll figure out the format eventually..
Welcome to our podcast where we discuss and deliberate over memoirs and biographies found in thrift shops. This is a great way to do things as we are not choosing who to read about. We may not be fans of the person, we may never have heard of the person and we never know who we are going to find next...There are only 2 rules to this podcast. The book has to be found in a thrift shop and we are not allowed to talk about the book until we press record, which is sometimes agonising. We have lots of episodes coming up so if you find yourself enjoying our podcast, please be sure to subscribe to be among the first to hear about each episode.
Rewilding reconnects people to a regenerative relationship with the lands where we dwell. Many people live lives that are dramatically linked to technological modernity. A return to a less technologically dependent life is not possible (for them). Solar Punk offers a potential “transition” type of living that could help soften the blow of a collapsing industrial technological system–or may even represent a kind of sustainable futurism. To talk with me today about this is Andrew Sage. Andrew is a passionate writer, artist, and YouTuber hailing from the vibrant island nation of Trinidad & Tobago. As an ardent anarchist and firm believer in power to the people, Andrew has dedicated his efforts to invigorating imaginations and encouraging people to create a better world in the shell of the old.Notes:Andrew's YouTubeAndrew's WebsiteThe Problem with CivilisationWe Need To Be More Tech CriticalAnnual North American Rewilding ConferenceBeyond Civilization by Daniel QuinnMartin Prechtel InterviewPeter Gelderloos; We have all the solutionsSupport the show
WAZ UUUUUUUPPP!!!! Just like that 90's seminal ad campaign, we are the MOOOOVIES ON THE ROCKS and we are what's up!! And just on how amazing that commercial was, this movie was a turning point in the career of Jackie Chan here in the states. But not just that, it brought the beauty of Hong Kong action movies to the mainstream here in the US also. But enough of that cinephil BS, let's get to the movie. So if you are interested in listening to a few dudes wax poetically of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, give us a listen. As always, we do this with a song in our hearts and a drink in our hands. Label: Verve 10245Year: 1962Condition: M-Price: $42.00Here's a particularly beautiful copy of one of my favorite Doo Wop rarities from the early 1960's... the flip is great, too. By the way, this group made no albums, so this was a 45-only, non-album single. Note: This 45 record has Mint labels and very nearly Mint vinyl and audio. Check out the mp3 "snippet"!
Label: Philles 121Year: 1964Condition: MLast Price: $45.00. Not currently available for sale. From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy, in its original factory sleeve. One listen to this seldom-heard Ronettes tune will make clear why it ranks so highly in Dave Marsh's list of the 1001 greatest singles ever made. Pure girl group bliss! Note: These crisp copies look like they just came off the shelf in 1964! Even the audio is as close to pristine as a Philles record pressing can get.
Hard Rock/Metal Band All Sinners Release New Single "Into the Flames" + Music Video via Rat Pak Records.Massachusetts-based hard rock/metal band All Sinners are proud to announce the release of their brand-new single “Into the Flames,” along with an accompanying music video, out now via Rat Pak Records. The track serves as a preview from the band's highly anticipated new studio album, We Own the Night, set for worldwide release on November 14, 2025. “Into the Flames” embodies All Sinners' signature mix of driving riffs, powerful vocals, and emotionally charged lyricism. "'Into the Flames' is about pushing the boundaries, and tempting fate while filled with despair, and hopelessness. Get too close to the flame and you WILL get burned!!" comments Mike Golarz. The new album marks a bold step forward for the band, combining their signature heavy riffs with more complex arrangements and raw, emotional depth. This powerful new collection of tracks showcases the band's growth both musically and thematically, building on the foundation laid by their debut EP while introducing new sonic territory that will leave fans and newcomers alike in awe. We Own the Night delivers an aggressive yet melodic exploration of human struggle, resilience, and redemption, delivered with All Sinners' trademark intensity. The album reflects the band's evolution, blending classic metal influences with elements of modern hard rock, creating a sound that is both timeless and fresh.“We've put everything we have into this album,” says guitarist & singer Mike Golarz. Hey, it's James from SurvivalPunk.com. It's a crisp 47-degree morning — not too bad, especially after the 29-degree ones I've been talking through lately. Today's show comes straight from a listener story that could've ended badly but turned into a great learning moment for every prepper out there. We're talking about what to do when your car dies in the middle of nowhere, how to avoid being caught unprepared, and how a simple breakdown can expose the holes in your prepping game.
I've been prone to announce on my first set of monthly new release episodes that it's devoted to “friends of the show”. But that's not to say that part two doesn't include my rock and roll pals. No, no, no. In fact, the second episode always involves a lengthy set devoted to my super special friends at Rum Bar Records. Malibu Lou has always been so supportive of The Ledge, and has always ensured that I have copies of everything his wonderful label releases. This month's show is no different, and along with the usual lengthy set of their newest tracks I have a couple of independently-released records by artists affiliated with Rum Bar. Both Brad Marino and The Prozacs have fantastic new tracks out that I'm happy to spin tonight. There's also a plethora of female-led rock and roll this week, starting off with our friends The Silent Treatment and their new track “Repeat Catastrophe”. There's also the latest “supergroup” Snocaps, led by Katie and Allison Crutchfield, along with The Belair Lip Bombs, The High Frequencies, and many more. Oh yeah, and the long-awaited return of Thee Headcoatees! What's your favorite tune this week? For more info, including setlists, […]

Label: Tribe 8308Year: 1965Condition: M-Price: $20.00Here's a beautiful copy of the single that Dave Marsh ranks at #491 in his list of the 1,001 greatest 45s of Rock'n' Soul. And don't neglect the terrific B side... also essential Sir Douglas Quintet! By the way, this was a non-album single until Tribe released a "Greatest Hits" LP in 1966. Fortunately, that LP contains both of these great tracks. Note: This 45 record has very nearly Mint labels. The vinyl and audio grade close to Mint as well.
Typ Marc Mühlenbrock in Episode #113PattiSmith. Die Patin selbst kommt auch in Interview-Ausschnitten zu Wort.

Su visita nos permite profundizar en este nuevo proyecto, que denota la versatilidad de un artista que se ha reinventado en varias ocasiones y que ha tocado otros palos musicales muy distintos, como el punk ("Hachazo") o el indie rock ("Verano Tassotti").

Label: Gordy 7069Year: 1968Condition: MPrice: $50.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy with a drillhole, in a rare original picture sleeve. Yes, I know this is on a Motown label, but it's still in the sweet Philly style :-) The flip, incidentally, is even better than the A side and is closer to the Motown sound (have a listen to the mp3 snippet in our "jukebox"). "Fading Away" was first recorded in 1966 by The Temptations and was pressed as the B side of their classic hit "Get Ready." Note: Aside from the drillhole, this beautiful 45 record is pristine Mint. The cool picture sleeve has a drillhole as well, but that's about it's only notable flaw. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)

The goal of political art is to ask uncomfortable questions. The price was prison.Vitaly Shevchenko speaks to Maria Alyokhina, founding member of the Russian punk activist group Pussy Riot, about the power and the price of protest.Pussy Riot came to the world's attention with its Punk Prayer, an angry anti-Putin anthem performed in a Moscow church. Maria Alyokhina spent two years incarcerated in a penal colony as a result. It was worth it, she says, to show the world what life under President Putin was like. She was freed under an amnesty ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, but her ongoing activism saw her living under surveillance and then house arrest, eventually fleeing Russia in a dramatic escape. Today, she continues to challenge Putin's regime from outside her home country. Thank you to the Ukrainecast team for its help in making this programme. In this nourishing conversation, we sit down with author and creator Hannah Eko to explore what it means to choose bliss in a world that glorifies burnout. Drawing from her book Honey Is the Knife, Hannah unpacks how Black women can transform wounds into wisdom and reclaim pleasure as both a birthright and a spiritual practice. Together, they explore the beauty of softness as protection, and how embracing joy can be a radical, healing act.If you've ever felt guilty for wanting ease or joy, this episode is your permission slip to rest, feel, and return to yourself. In this episode we discuss:Why choosing bliss is not escapism, but a form of resistance and liberationThe importance of curating environments that allow Black women to stay soft and wholeHannah's journey from self-sacrifice to self-honoring — and what being a “punk spiritualist” really meansHow pleasure connects us to our ancestors and offers a pathway to healing generational painReframing wellness: moving beyond constant self-improvement toward true self-acceptanceConnect with Hannah:Website: hannaheko.comInstagram: @hannah.ekoSubstack: hannahekwrites.substack.comConnect with Be Well, Sis:Instagram – @bewellsis_podcastSubstack – bewellsis.substack.comFollow, rate, and share this episode! We're supporting St Jude's- head over to www.stjude.org/bewellsis right now and sign up to be a monthly donor. I feel that it is important that you support these bands if you like them. Punk is a wonderful weird family for all of is and we should remember we are on the same team. Buy these bands records, go see them live and tell your friends about them. You don't have to do all of those things all at once. A little here, a little there. Just do what feels right. Drink plenty of water. Be good to yourself and others. Hey, it's James from SurvivalPunk.com, and this morning we're diving into one of my favorite prepper topics: food that lasts for decades. Not the trendy freeze-dried stuff or overpriced buckets — I'm talking about the staples you can buy cheap, store easily, and forget about until you need them. These are the real long-haul preps — the ones that'll outlast your pantry, your house, and maybe even you.
Dylan was assigned the year 1992, and he selected Face to Face's debut album, Don't Turn Away. Face to Face were a skate punk band from Victorville, CA. Originally released on Dr. Strange Records, the band would later go on to sign with the majors, and become a legend of early 90's punk. Label: Elektra 47006Year: 1980Condition: MLast Price: $10.00. Not currently available for sale. This was the first release of this classic... it spent 13 weeks on the chart in this incarnation and then another 10 weeks when it was re-released on Elektra 47052 with "The Beat Goes On" on the B side. Note: This 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Island 99963 djYear: 1982Condition: MLast Price: $12.50. Not currently available for sale. This is a new, unplayed promo copy, in its original Island Records factory sleeve. There were so many really, really great funk grooves laid down in the early 1980s! Where did they come from, and where have they gone? This one was from the amazing, rarely heard followup to Jones' hit "Pull Up To The Bumper," and really socks it to ya. It's another rare example of a woman basically telling her man to take a hike, and tough if he don't like it. :-) This promo has the "Short" edit of the 5:55 album track on one side (which is what appears on retail copies) and a somewhat longer "Long" edit unique to the promo on the other. Note: This 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio). By the way, the audio is awesome... taking full advantage of the 45's ability to store so much more waveform information because of its faster spin and smaller diameter. (See our online book, "The Joy of 45 Collecting," for details.) The sound is very loud but crisp and clear as can be.
