De installaties van kunstenaar Morena Bamberger zijn een ode aan haar Sinti roots, haar identiteit en Moeder Aarde. De Limburgse studeerde in 2018 af aan de Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Maastricht en creëert sindsdien installaties die door licht, geluid en geur een zintuiglijke reis zijn voor de toeschouwer. Bamberger won in 2018 de Gilbert de Bontridder Prijs en de Henriëtte Hustinxprijs en werd in 2022 bekroond met de Parkstad Limburg Prijs. Ze werd onder andere bekend door haar installatie ‘Sonnekaskro Djiephen', Sinti voor ‘Een Leven Van Goud'. Daarin liet zij de woonwagen als een kapel zien, waar religie en reizen samenkomen. Dit werk werd besproken in de New York Times. Nu tovert zij met haar installatie ‘Through Matter of Time' de zolder van het Stedelijk Museum Schiedam om tot een duister universum. In haar eerste solotentoonstelling buiten Limburg onderzoekt ze de overgang tussen leven en dood. De mystieke kanten van het leven en oude culturen vormen haar inspiratiebronnen. Había en cierta granja un mulo viejo que dio un paso en falso y fue a dar al fondo de un pozo. El pobre campesino, que era su dueño, oyó el desesperado y resonante rebuzno y se acercó al pozo. Sintió lástima de su mulo, pero después de pensarlo bien, decidió que no valía la pena tratar de salvar ni el mulo ni el pozo. Así que llamó a sus vecinos, les contó lo sucedido y les pidió que le ayudaran a llenar de tierra el pozo. De ese modo el pozo serviría por lo menos como tumba, y el mulo no sufriría más. Cuando comenzaron a lloverle los primeros montones de tierra, el mulo casi se muere del susto. Pero al sentir el golpe de la cuarta y la quinta palada, se le ocurrió una idea. Cayó en la cuenta de que cada vez que le caía encima un montón de tierra, debía quitársela de encima sacudiéndose, y dar un paso hacia arriba, pisoteando la tierra que caía. En efecto, eso es lo que hizo, golpe tras golpe, palada tras palada, montón tras montón. «¡Sacúdete y sube! ¡Sacúdete y sube! ¡Sacúdete y sube!», se repetía en voz alta para no perder el ánimo. Aguantó el dolor de los golpes de la tierra que caía y sofocó la angustia que sentía, y así, sacudiéndose y subiendo, venció el pánico que lo invadía. Después de mucho sacudirse y pisotear, y ante el asombro general, el viejo mulo, exhausto y maltratado, dio el último paso hacia arriba, por encima de la orilla del pozo, ¡y pisoteó triunfante la tierra firme del campo! Lo que pudo haberlo enterrado, a la postre lo desenterró. Había logrado convertir en bendición esa segura maldición, y todo porque supo enfrentarse a la adversidad. He aquí la moraleja en verso: Si al fondo llegas, y te echan tierra, en lugar de desesperarte, ¡anímate, mira hacia arriba y usa la tierra para desenterrarte! Esta simpática fábula ilustra el siguiente refrán: «Nadar río abajo no cuesta trabajo; nadar río arriba: ¡eso sí que cuesta fatiga!»1 Pensémoslo bien. Si con la sola fuerza de voluntad somos capaces de nadar contra la corriente, ¿cuánto más podremos hacer en tiempos de angustia si acudimos a Dios? Con el Señor a nuestro lado, podemos vencer los obstáculos más imponentes de la vida. Esa fue precisamente la conclusión a la que llegó David cuando el Señor lo libró del rey Saúl y de todos sus enemigos. De ahí que el salmista de Israel le dedicara al Señor los siguientes versos: Me enredaron los lazos del sepulcro,             y me encontré ante las trampas de la muerte. En mi angustia... clamé a mi Dios,             y... ¡mi clamor llegó a sus oídos!... Daughter of printmakers and painters – an English Romany father and Scottish-English-Irish mother – Lynn Hutchinson Lee is a multidisciplinary artist and writer based in Toronto, Canada. Lynn spent her childhood summers in a forest surrounded by marshes and bogs, and their lush beauty and magic haunt her writing. She was first place winner of the 2022 Joy Kogawa Award for Fiction. Her writing is published in Room; Weird Horror; Northern Nights; KIN: An Anthology of Poetry, Story and Art by Women from Romani, Traveller and Nomadic Communities; Prairie Fire's 50 Over 50; Wagtail: The Romani Women's Poetry Anthology; Guernica's This Will Only Take a Minute (winning the Editor's Choice Award); and elsewhere. En este mensaje tratamos el caso de un hombre que «descargó su conciencia» de manera anónima en nuestro sitio www.conciencia.net y nos autorizó a que lo citáramos, como sigue: «Después de diez años de casados, mi esposa se sintió muy atraída por un muchacho atractivo y mucho más joven, que llegaba a la casa para vendernos pan. Pasaban a veces hasta cuarenta minutos platicando en frente de nuestra casa. Yo le decía a mi esposa que no era correcto lo que hacía, pero ella me respondía que era sólo una amistad inofensiva. Se lo advertí muchas veces, hasta que llegaron al punto de que se veían afuera y, según me comentó, se besaban.... No sé qué hacer.» Este es el consejo que le dio mi esposa: «Estimado amigo: »... Es importante reconocer que su esposa sí optó por contarle a usted acerca del beso. Ella pudo haber guardado el secreto y haber seguido la relación amistosa con el joven, pero decidió más bien contárselo a usted. Como ella se lo confesó, vamos a suponer que está arrepentida y que quiere reparar la relación entre ustedes dos. »Es posible que usted esté enojado con ella debido a que no acató su advertencia en cuanto a lo inapropiadas que eran las largas conversaciones que tenía con el joven. ¿Acaso estaba ella tratando de desquitarse por algo que usted hizo, tal como una relación que usted tuvo o está sosteniendo con otra mujer? ¿O estaba procurando que usted se pusiera celoso porque ella siente que usted no le está prestando suficiente atención? Ella bien pudiera sentirse insegura por estar envejeciendo o por su apariencia física, y la atención que le estaba prestando el joven la hizo sentirse más segura de sí misma.   »No hay duda alguna de que lo que hizo su esposa no fue lo correcto y que esa brecha en la confianza pudiera destruir su matrimonio, si usted lo permite. Orhan Tahir is a Romani lawyer, scholar and journalist, originally from Bulgaria, who has lived in Western Europe for the past 10 years. He is currently engaged as a PhD researcher in Political Science at the Heidelberg University in Germany. Orhan's focus is on the construction of "Gypsies" as an outcast "Pariah people" in European imagination in line with the Orientalist narratives of colonial India, and the impact of this concept on modern perceptions of Roma.
