On the show today we remember two important dates from the past, December 7th 1941 and December 15th 1944. The former was the day that Japan attacked the US Naval Fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor and the latter was the day that Glenn Miller disappeared while flying over the English Channel. I decided to play some assorted songs and clips associated with Pearl Harbor and I also have two broadcasts from Glenn Miller's "I Sustain The Wings" radio show. The first is from December 11, 1943 and is about 30 minutes and then the next one is a 15 Miller broadcast. I hope you enjoy the music as we pay a tribute to the men and women who lost their lives on December 7, 1941 and also as we remember Major Glenn Miller. The disappearance of Glenn Miller 75 years ago has been the subject of many theories over the years. We will take a look at some of the theories and listen to some more of those great sides recorded by Glenn and the Army Air Force orchestra. Also, I have a live radio program from July of 1944 which is a little different than his I Sustain The Wings series.  I hope you'll find something enjoyable in this second of two parts on The Disappearance of Glenn Miller. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com

This coming Thursday is the Fourth of July which for us in the United States is celebrated as a day of independence. I don't have a lot of patriotic songs in my collection that I haven't presented at one time or another. So to celebrate July 4th I thought I would present some radio programs that Major Glenn Miller was in charge of. They are called "I Sustain The Wings" and were broadcast in 1944 in the latter part of World War II. The first two are about 15 minutes in length and the last one is about 26 minutes. There are some Miller favorites in the mix and Glenn, himself, does the announcing. I hope you have a safe and happy July 4th this Thursday as we celebrate Independence day. I even threw in a few facts about why we celebrate independence on July 4th. I hope you enjoy the music. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com

75 years ago today (May 27, 1944), Glenn Miller's Army Air Force orchestra performed on it's legendary series "I Sustain The Wings" on NBC Radio. Captain Miller was not with the band - they are conducted by Sgt. Jerry Gray, Glenn's top arranger. Miller was on leave, taking care of business interests in California and visiting his mother in Colorado. He was doing so for a reason that wasn't public yet - he and the band were going to Britain to perform for the Allied forces, as the invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe was upon us. The Miller band would be the last music many men and women would hear. RIP to those who gave all.

When Major Glenn Miller disappeared over the English Channel in December of 1944, his Army-Air Force Orchestra continued to perform. On the show today, I will be presenting the last two performances by that great orchestra. The first is the last program of "I Sustain The Wings" from October 1945 and the final performance is from November of 1945 before a live audience. Sgt. Jerry Gray is the conductor for these two performances. There is some fantastic music in the set done in the Miller style. I hope you enjoy this look back at the end of World War Two and some memories of the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Overseas Orchestra. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com

This June 6th, 2017 is the anniversary of the invasion of Normandy better known as D-Day. It was a day that many American service men lost their lives. To pay tribute to those who served during that fateful time I would like to present some music from Glenn Miller and his Army Air-Force Orchestra. In order to get the timing right I've picked four numbers and two live radio remotes. Glenn's show was called "I Sustain The Wings". We'll be hearing a 13 minute show and a 29 minute show. There is some great music in these shows and I hope you enjoy it as we remember the many events that happened on June 6th, 1944. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com

This past March 1st was the birthday of the late Glenn Miller. We are continuing our birthday celebration by rerunning a 4 part series on Glenn that I put together that originally aired during October of 2014. This series was one I produced to remember the 70th anniversary of his disappearance. On the show today, which is part 3 of the series, I'll be playing some of the songs that I didn't get to play last time. The songs from today are all studio recordings as well as a 15 minute radio broadcast from Glenn's I Sustain The Wings series. I hope you enjoy the recordings from one of the top bandleaders from this era, the late Glenn Miller. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbash.libsyn.com
