A poluição do ar tem um efeito mais devastador na expectativa de vida do que o fumo e a guerra. Você já ouviu falar em emissões atmosféricas? Está ciente que deve ser controlado, e o que pode acontecer se você não ajudar nesse controle? O termo emissões atmosféricas se refere à liberação de qualquer matéria líquida, sólida ou gasosa na atmosfera, podendo ser tanto de fontes móveis (carros, trens, navios, aviões) quanto de fontes estacionárias ou fixas (como as que são liberadas durante um processo de produção, por exemplo, por uma chaminé industrial). Também pode ser feita a classificação quanto à natureza da emissão, sendo chamadas de emissões pontuais quando há algum controle do seu fluxo (através de chaminés e dutos), e emissões fugitivas, quando ocorre a simples liberação dos poluentes na atmosfera sem nenhum direcionamento, como no caso de abertura de recipientes com substâncias voláteis ou em vazamentos de conexões. Essas emissões podem afetar diretamente o seu negócio, no momento em que geram uma responsabilidade social a respeito da gestão ambiental dos efluentes da sua produção. Além disso, as emissões atmosféricas também apresentam uma responsabilidade perante a legislação, pois, se as mesmas não forem monitoradas, a sua empresa pode estar ultrapassando os limites estabelecidos legalmente. Nesse caso, você estaria cometendo um crime ambiental, sujeito a penalidades como multas ou até mesmo suspensão total das atividades. [...] A poluição do ar é a maior responsável por mortes do que AIDS, tuberculose e malária juntos, de acordo com um relatório recente do Índice de Qualidade de Vida do Ar. A poluição por partículas no ar tem um impacto mais devastador na expectativa de vida do que fumar ou mesmo a guerra, dizem os cientistas. Está encurtando a vida de bilhões de pessoas, com o cidadão global médio perdendo 2,2 anos de sua vida para os níveis atuais de poluição do ar. O problema está sendo agravado pela crise climática, com altas temperaturas levando a incêndios florestais que aumentam a poluição do ar. Isso cria um ciclo perigoso, dizem os pesquisadores. A queima de combustíveis fósseis - em particular o carvão - está alimentando o problema. A poluição do ar é a maior ameaça externa à saúde humana no planeta e isso não é amplamente reconhecido, ou não é reconhecido com a força e o vigor que se poderia esperar. [...] Os formuladores de políticas realmente precisam priorizar a saúde respiratória na luta contra as mudanças climáticas e as empresas precisam tomar ações significativas, mensuráveis e verificadas de acordo com a legislação ambiental local. Só assim poderemos encorajar e acompanhar o progresso rumo a uma sociedade mais verde e saudável. Importante também prover recursos financeiros adequados no orçamento da União para a fiscalização ambiental, que são ações de controle, exercida pelo Poder Público, para proteger os recursos ambientais, manter a integridade do meio ambiente, bem como assegurar o uso racional dos recursos naturais, coibindo as ações prejudiciais do homem sobre a natureza. A fiscalização ambiental está prevista na legislação ambiental como o exercício, o poder de polícia, onde o poder público tem o dever de buscar garantir a preservação do meio ambiente e da coletividade, fiscalizando atividades potencialmente poluidoras e utilizadoras de recursos naturais.   LONG SYNOPSIS: Playing in a park or on a street corner isn’t new for musician Johnny Franco. Franco and his brother Domenico are buskers, and during the pandemic they started taking requests from people who wanted to be serenaded from outside their windows with concerts. Now, with Curbside Serenade, the two have teamed up with other musicians to organize regular outdoor concerts around the city during the summer. The goal, they say, is for audiences to stumble across music wherever they happen to be. We talk to Johnny and Domenico Franco, along with Dave Pollack, one of the founders of Curbside Serenade.
