With Cole in New Zealand for the next few weeks, and Marchie preparing to return to Dallas Cowboys training camp on Monday, Levi decided to sit down with former 1st-Team All-Big 12 nose tackle Jake McDonough.to talk all things Cyclone football. First we talked about what Jake's been up to since he left Iowa State, including a stint in the Arena Football League. Jake says playing in the Arena League is actually more difficult than playing on the grass field. Also, Jake's contemplating a return to the NFL, so he walks us through the process of trying to make that comeback, including showing teams his recent 225 lb bench press set of 47 REPS. Then, Jake gave his persepective on Joel Lanning and how incredible his double duty at linebacker and quarterback last season was. After our brief discussion about Joel, we talked about how the impressive 2017 recruiting class is already pushing their way into the gameplan, and what the new redshirt rule means for their development. Even true freshman offensive lineman Trevor Downing has already forced his way into the deep of a position that traditionally redshirts every single offensive lineman for the first season. So how is Matt Campbell building this depth? Jake says one of the main reasons that Iowa State is now competing for recruits with some of the larger schools, is because he can sell one of the most passionate fanbases in the country. We talk more about Matt Campbell's love affair with the Iowa State fanbase, and why he we think he turned down larger schools to not only come to Ames, but to stay after seeing interest from some blue-blood programs. Before we wrapped things, we played Buy or Sell, and Jake suckered Levi into telling his embarassing story about his first time playing "flippy/flip cup."

Joseph Hoyt, recently hired at the Ames Tribune, stopped by to discuss his first impressions of Iowa and Ames specifically. Hoyt previously covered the Oregon Ducks football team so we talked about uniform combinations, tailgating and just how far away ISU really is on the football field. In the upset of the centruy, Jospeh has been in Ames for about a month and has yet to eat at Hickory Park. We talked about local Ames watering holes and he helped Austin pronounce Deutches IPA (Not the IPA part). As a first time Iowa, we asked Joseph what he thought Iowa State could sell recruits on and where their focus will be over the next two months on the recruiting trail. Finally, Joseph gave us some hope for things we might see in the 2017 football season. Don't forget to subscribe and leave us a review on iTunes. Also, special thanks to Jake McDonough for allowing us to use his Cyclone tune throughout the show. You can follow Joseph on Twitter: @JoeJHoyt

Iowa State continued to show improvement after the San Jose State game, putting up one hell of a fight against the 13th ranked Baylor Bears before eventually losing a game in which they never trailed. The offense continued to gel as Joel Lanning played his best game of the season, and Mike Warren again rushed for more than 100 yards. The defense, however, was not as successful as Shock Linwood ran his way up and down the field at will. This week the Cyclones head to Stillwater where they take on a really solid Oklahoma State Cowboys team.  What did we learn about the progress of the process, and just how much improvement have we seen from ISU in the first five weeks? What should we as fans reasonably expect as the Cyclones head into a tough road contest? What would indicate continued progress against the Pokes? Find all that and more in this week's We Still Booze podcast. Brought to you by Wide Right & Natty Lite. Iowa State's SBNation blog. Special thanks to former Cyclone, Jake McDonough, for letting us use the track, "816 Boyz Comin Thru 2" for the intro and outro. Give him a follow on Soundcloud.

Jay and Matthias are BACK for week two of the We Still Booze Podcast and this time they bring in the reinforcements of Josh to help preview the TCU Horned Frogs. The crew tries to take as brief a look as possible at the CyHawk massacre without just completely forgetting that, yes, it actually did happen. They talk about what went wrong offensively, what happened on the blown coverage TD's and what actually looked a little improved from week one against UNI. Then Josh comes along as the conversation switches to the upcoming game against TCU. Jay and Matthias take a look at how Iowa State can contain Kenny 'the thrill' Hill after struggling with Bailey from UNI in week one.  Josh provides some insight on the other TCU weapons offensively before taking a look at the vaunted TCU defense that has been stout against the run and a little vulnerable against the pass. Finally the crew makes their predictions as we look forward to Saturday's game! Special shoutout to former Cyclone, Jake McDonough for letting us use his dope track, "816 Boyz Comin Thru 2" for our bumper music. Check him out and give him a follow on Soundcloud at JMacTracks.
