Locked On Gators - Daily Podcast On Florida Gators Football & Basketball
The Florida Gators football team had a player robbed of an All-American, or at least All-SEC bid last season when Safety Rashad Torrence II wasn't named to the teams, depending on who you asked. Under new Florida Gators football head coach Billy Napier and co-defensive coordinators Patrick Toney and Sean Spencer, we could see Safety Rashad Torrence II finally reach that elite status. Arizona State transfer wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has named his final three of the Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers, and Oregon Ducks. Could the Florida Gators land a commitment from Ricky Pearsall and add him to the weapons list for QB Anthony Richardson alongside Justin Shorter, Xzavier Henderson, Trent Whittemore, and Keon Zipperer? With Oregon Football's spring game coming up this Saturday, April 23rd, Spencer McLaughlin will be doing a full preview of each position group and everyone who might play this week in Autzen Stadium. On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, the quarterbacks are up first--and an official starter is yet to be named by Dan Lanning and OC Kenny Dillingham. Auburn transfer Bo Nix has a chance to show Oregon Duck fans that he's worthy of being the starting quarterback in 2022, and a strong performance could lock him in as Oregon's starting quarterback. Dan Lanning picked up another highly-rated recruit when 4-star WR Kyler Kasper surprised many by committing to the Ducks over Tennessee. The Gilbert, AZ native becomes the latest recruit from the Grand Canyon state to decide to play his college ball in Eugene, joining a list of rock solid players Oregon has had come through the program in past years. His commitment demonstrates another encouraging sign on the recruiting trail, as Oregon landed him despite not having a major QB commit in 2022 or the Class of 2023. Oregon Basketball and Dana Altman still have roster questions going into the 2022-23 season. With the team's leading scorer from this past year, Will Richardson, still undecided on his future, it's logical to be exploring potential roster additions. In recent weeks, former Oregon State PG Jarod Lucas and Colorado G Keeshawn Barthelemy entered the transfer portal. Both averaged 10+ppg last year, and the Ducks would be wise to keep an eye on the off-season recruitment of both. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Auburn - Daily Podcast On Auburn Tigers Football & Basketball
Auburn football fans have had a fascination with mobile and athletic backup quarterbacks on the roster for the better part of a decade. Auburn Tiger fans have been interested in the upside that they bring to an offense after seeing what Cam Newton and Nick Marshall did to opposing defenses during their time on The Plains. We have seen the latest version of this trend with Robby Ashford after the athletic quarterback transferred from the Oregon Ducks. Before Auburn fans ever saw him in action, they were ready to pounce on all of the potential that he brought to the offense even though what Bryan Harsin wants in a quarterback is different than the previous regime. On today's Locked On Auburn, Zac Blackerby is joined by Auburn message board legend Charlie5 as they discuss this trend with Auburn football fans and interest in the backup quarterback. They also discuss the latest news regarding Bruce Pearl and his ability to navigate the roster management side of the job with big transfers visiting Auburn. 5-star offensive lineman Josh Connerly Jr. was the highest-rated recruit in the Class of 2022 who had not yet committed. Down to a list of 6 schools including USC, Michigan, Washington, Miami, Oklahoma, and Oregon, Connerly was expected to choose Lincoln Riley and USC. Instead, the #15 overall recruit (and #2 OL) chose Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks. At 6'5" and 283lbs, Connerly has the physical traits to be an elite, NFL-caliber offensive lineman. He is one of the 10 highest-rated recruits in Oregon Football history, coming in as the 13th 5-star recruit to come to Eugene. For the fourth year in a row, the Ducks have the highest-rated recruiting class in the Pac-12 and now have Josh Connerly Jr. as the headliner recruit. De'Vion Harmon, who transferred from Oklahoma last season to play for Oregon Basketball, announced he will return to Dana Altman's team for the 2022-23 season. Harmon started 34 of 35 games last year for the Ducks, averaging 10.8ppg and shooting just under 37% from 3pt range. This is good news for Oregon Basketball, both because of Harmon's talent and because nowadays it can be difficult to keep productive players around in College Basketball. It's likely Harmon starts again next year for the Ducks, but there could be a situation where he is Dana Altman's first player off the bench. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Nebraska men's tennis team (4-11, 0-0 Big Ten) fell to the No. 44 Oregon Ducks (9-6, 0-1 Pac 12) 4-3 at the Dillon Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
After weeks of debate, rumors, crystal balls, and a reported NIL deal worth up to $8 million, 5-star QB Nico Iamaleava has committed to the Tennessee Volunteers over the Oregon Ducks. Many Oregon fans were excited about the prospect of landing one of the highest-rated quarterbacks in the Class of 2023, but it appears it wasn't meant to be. Despite missing on this big-time recruit, Oregon Football is going to be just fine on the recruiting trail. Oregon Basketball's season didn't end the way Duck fans had hoped after a strong stretch in the middle of the year, and leading scorer Will Richardson struggled down the stretch.
