The Texas Longhorns head into the bye week coming off of yet another collapse - this time at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. However, instead of the defense collapsing under the offensive pressure, the Oklahoma State defense shut down the Texas offense - allowing the defense to slowly bleed until one big play sealed the deal. What happened to the Longhorns' offense on Saturday and what can Steve Sarkisian do about it with two weeks off? How does the defense limit gash plays and keep opponents from ending up in short-yardage situations? Quarterback Casey Thompson had his worst outing of his five starts as he nurses an injury to his throwing hand. So Texas has to take advantage of the week off to get healthy and get ready for a tough Baylor Bears squad. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. As the Bears regroup from their first loss, Brice Cherry and John Werner are ready to talk some college football: • The Baylor Bears will not go undefeated as the dream fizzled in Stillwater. Let's glance into John Werner's Dave Campbell-esque crystal ball — will the Bears be ranked in the Top 25 at the end of the season? • Offensively, Baylor has regressed in its last two games against Oklahoma State and Iowa State. Admittedly, those are pretty good defenses. But what's most concerning for the Bears right now? And do you agree with Dave Aranda that these issues are fixable? • Who is Baylor's MVP through the first 5 games? How about JT Woods? • Texas has (sort of) righted the ship and Oklahoma hasn't been a world-beater, to say the least. Could the Red River Shootout be another close one, even an instant classic after a 4 OT game last year? • An all-Texas Big 12 tussle is on tap as TCU travels to Lubbock — which teams needs it more, who's likely to win this one, and are those the same team? Paul Mills is the men's head basketball coach at Oral Roberts University. For fourteen years from 2003-2017, Mills was an assistant coach with the Baylor Bears under head coach Scott Drew before taking the job with Oral Roberts on April 28, 2017. In the 2020-2021 season, Mills led Oral Roberts on an improbable March Madness run that saw them defeat No. 2 seed Ohio State and No. 7 seed Florida to advance to the Sweet Sixteen before losing to Arkansas 72-70. They were just the second 15 seed to ever advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the history of the NCAA Tournament. Today on the podcast, we talk to coach Paul Mills about his incredible March Madness run, the lessons learned from success and defeat, using the national platform as an opportunity to share the Gospel and his love for the movie Hoosiers. --- Receive our 10-day Sports Spectrum Devotional written by professional athletes for FREE when you sign up for our Sports Spectrum Weekly Email Newsletter. In spite of the current drama with the SEC, the Texas Longhorns have at least one more season to play in the Big 12, which means our conference preview series continues. One of the teams that is currently trying to figure out what their fate is - both on the field and off the field - are the Baylor Bears, who are coming off of a season of struggle in 2020. New head coach Dave Aranda was put in the unenviable position of trying to implement new systems on both sides of the ball after losing the entirety of spring practice due to COVID-19 closures. They struggled with consistency on both sides of the ball, starting with Charlie Brewer - who took the opportunity to transfer to the Utah Utes in the offseason. How will offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes turn that unit around, in an effort to take some pressure off of the defense in the process? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. On today's episode of Barstool Bench Mob, The Baylor Bears are National Champions. Rico, Jake and Marty break down the disappointing beat down in Indy (02:59). How many more times are we going to hear "Gonzaga's Year"? The Bulldogs looked lost right from the tip and Marty wants the world to know - He Was Right. The game was a letdown but we can still appreciate the effort from Baylor. If it weren't for the Bears' midseason COVID pause, could they have gone undefeated? Was Baylor too under the radar all year? And for the Zags, while it wasn't a choke-job, how much blame does Mark Few get for his game plan? And we wrap things up with a quick recap of the Women's National Championship (32:40) which saw Stanford raising the trophy for the first time in 29 years. And finally, we give our reviews of One Shining Moment. Rico had some critiques but overall, it still delivered (34:20). Thank you for listening all year long with us! Make sure to subscribe, rate, and review Barstool Bench Mob. We'll be back every Thursday of the offseason.
The Final Four is here, and Gonzaga is poised to make history. The Zags are set to be the first men's team to go undefeated for an entire season since the Indiana Hoosiers pulled off the feat in 1976. So the question is: Who can stop Mark Few's team from making history? Today, The Athletic's Brian Hamilton joins us to talk about Gonzaga's quest for immortality, UCLA's cinderella run, Houston's tough as gravel mentality, and the Baylor Bears' dynamic backcourt. On today's episode of Barstool Bench Mob, the guys recap an action-packed Sweet 16 that featured some blowouts, three 1-seeds advancing, and one stunning upset. In the West Region (03:13), we had two blowouts with Gonzaga and USC set to meet in the Elite Eight. Can anybody stop the Bulldogs and if so, is it Evan Mobley and the Trojans? Is this the toughest matchup the Zags will have faced all season? Marty and Rico both believe in the Trojans chances for an upset. In the East Region (11:48) we saw the major upset of the weekend with UCLA outlasting Alabama in overtime. The Crimson Tide's struggles at the foul line probably cost them the game and the Bench Mob some money. Mick Cronin's squad is heading to the Elite Eight in a matchup against 1-seed Michigan. The Wolverines smoked Florida State and are poised for another trip to the Final Four. Is Michigan the most underrated team left in the field?
