From Al Jazeera to Al Aqsa TV, state- or organization-run media outlets dominate Middle Eastern news, with the effect of promoting extremism, denying press freedoms, compromising journalistic objectivity, and covering up human rights abuses. More, they have expanded their operations beyond the region, finding receptivity to their messages around the world. What is the trend of these media conglomerates? What are their outstanding successes and failures? What can be done to counter them?
Recently, the Middle East Forum came into possession of tens of thousands of leaked documents from a self-admitted “semi-government” charity in Qatar founded by a U.S.-designated terrorist. The documents reveals that Eid Charity has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to Islamists and jihadis around the world. With other organizations, MEF has researched the use of these funds. What has been found so far? What does it mean? MEF's Washington Project Director Cliff Smith will discuss these issues with Martha Lee of Islamist Watch, Abhinav Pandya of the Usanas Foundation, and Jordan Cope of Stand With Us.

Wouldn't it be cool to make money from your podcast? Not a lot, just enough to pay your monthly hosting fees. Or maybe you want to pay your contributors or buy some new microphones or just get a cup of coffee for your effort. It's All Journalism host Michael O'Connell interviewed Jordan Cope of Patreon at the 2016 Podcast Movement conference in Chicago. He explained how Patreon works and the simple way it can provide sustainability for a growing podcast.
My pal Jordan Cope joins us in the tavern for SCIENCE FICTION tales of time travel and phoenixes!
