The debate over horse dentistry needs to be resolved before it escalates into an all-out war, leaving horses without the dental care they need. The two main issues fueling this conflict—hand floating versus power equipment, and the debate over whether only veterinarians or non-veterinarians should perform dental work—have been ongoing since the 1960s. I know this history well, as I began my own journey into equine dentistry in 1983. Like many forgotten histories, this discussion often pits people against one another without understanding past mistakes and solutions. Those involved focus solely on their own perspectives, turning the debate into a personal battle in which the horses are caught in the middle, suffering as their needs are misrepresented or ignored. As this conflict continues to play out on social media and in veterinary meetings, an increasing number of horse owners are opting not to have their horses' teeth cared for. Consequently, horses are left chewing in pain or struggling with the bit, only to see a dentist when the dental issues become severe, rather than receiving preventive maintenance. In this podcast, I will discuss this dilemma by examining the various schools of thought, which often rest on unproven theories and distorted facts. It's time for all parties to cease fighting and for veterinarians to expand their scope of care, offering more options for horse owners. By doing so, we can ensure that more horses receive the dental care they need, which is essential to Help Horses Thrive In A Human World™. ********** Community.TheHorsesAdvocate.com is a place to learn about horses, horse barns, and farms. Its information is free, and there is a membership side that allows horse owners to attend live meetings to ask questions and deepen their understanding of what they have learned on the site. Membership helps support this message and spread it to everyone worldwide who works with horses. The Equine Practice, Inc. website discusses how and why I perform equine dentistry without immobilization or the automatic use of drugs. I only accept new clients in Florida. Click here to make an appointment. The Horsemanship Dentistry School is a place for those interested in learning how to perform equine dentistry without drugs on 97% of horses. Please give a thumbs-up or a 5-star review and share these everywhere. I know horse owners worldwide listen, and the horses need every one of you in "Helping Horses Thrive In A Human World."

What happens when a heart surgeon who's performed over 3,300 operations decides the healthcare system is fundamentally broken? Dr. Philip Ovadia built a medical practice where the goal is making patients healthy enough that they don't need doctors anymore. This conversation reveals how Ovadia Heart Health operates across all 50 states, why they celebrate when patients leave, and the uncomfortable truth about why your doctor can't tell you certain diseases are reversible. Chief Operating Officer Brian Keith joins Dr. Ovadia to explain the financial incentives trapping physicians and their roadmap for doctors to reclaim autonomy.Send Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. This is this January's bonus episode of Short Stories of Hope. In this story, Aaron shares a quiet and unexpected moment centered on a woman on the edge of hunger and a small restaurant in New Jersey that becomes an unlikely turning point. What makes the moment even more surprising is the person who helps set it in motion, someone you'd expect to see under arena lights at a rock concert, not connected to an act of everyday generosity. It is a story about dignity, timing, and the small human gestures that can restore hope when it feels nearly out of reach. Created, Performed & Produced by Aaron Calafato *Learn more about the person or place embodying this month's Short Story of Hope *Additional sounds on cleared list and used with paid license via artlist.io

Bach's music turns up everywhere from cigar ads to horror films. You can probably hum bits of Bach even if you're not a classical fan. But what makes his music so popular and why is he still so influential 300 years on? To celebrate The Bach Choir's 150th Anniversary, we've made three special episodes all about Bach and his best-known compositions. This time our host and Musical Director, David Hill, is joined by BBC Radio 3's Linton Stephens to talk about six of Bach's most famous pieces. Along the way they tackle musical taboos (why can't most classical musicians improvise?), classical music wrangles (did Bach actually write the Toccata and Fugue?), and great stories (why did Bach once threaten a bassoonist with a sword?). Plus, we hear from some of our friends - including superstar organist and broadcaster Anna Lapwood - about their favourite Bach pieces.Want to see the video version of this podcast? Lee Child is a writer who is best known for his series of bestselling novels featuring Jack Reacher. Reacher is an enigmatic 6ft 5in, 17-stone ex-military police major who rights wrongs before disappearing off into the sunset. The books have sold in their millions around the world and have inspired two films starring Tom Cruise and a television series.Lee Child was born James - Jim - Grant in 1954 and grew up in Birmingham. He studied Law at the University of Sheffield and then joined the presentation department at Granada Television where he was a shop steward and became a thorn in the side of the management. At 40 he was made redundant and sat down to write his first Reacher novel Killing Floor. He found himself an agent and the novel was published in March 1997 - the franchise was up and running. In the UK Lee outsells both Stephen King and John Grisham and worldwide he sells between 12 and 15 million copies a year.In 2020 Lee announced that he was handing over the Reacher franchise to his younger brother Andrew Grant. The two brothers have worked on several novels since then and the thirtieth Reacher title features both brothers' names on the cover.Lee Child was appointed CBE in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours. He lives in the Lake District with his wife Jane. At the Threshold is a short arts–health monologue that explores Alzheimer's through time, pause, and listening. Drawing on lived observation, personhood thinking, and the experience of apraxia, the piece focuses not on loss of memory, but on moments where action, recognition, and agreement arrive out of sequence — and sometimes return. Structured around the sound of wind moving through a room, the monologue invites the listener to stand in the space before decisions are made: where consent is not refusal, stillness is not absence, and waiting becomes a form of care. This work sits between theatre, medical humanities, and sound piece. It is an invitation to imagine the other — not as someone disappearing, but as someone navigating changing thresholds of access, timing, and recognition. Listeners are invited, at the end, to close the door if they wish.

Order NOW to get exclusive signed editions from BN.com AND the Special Edition from Target! In the winter of 1980, wealthy socialite Martha “Sunny” von Bulow was found unconscious in the bathroom of the mansion she shared with her husband, Claus, in Newport, Rhode Island. An ambulance was called and Sunny was rushed to the nearest emergency room, but paramedics and doctors were unable to revive her and Sunny would remain in a coma until her death in 2008. At first, Sunny's coma was a mystery to doctors, but soon suspicion fell on her husband, Claus, who appeared indifferent to her condition and was openly carrying on an affair with another woman. The family launched a private investigation and eventually turned up strong evidence they believed implicated Claus in the attempted murder of Sunny, but, as they soon learned, believing it and proving it were two very different things.ReferencesAssociated Press. 1985. Margaret Atwood is a Canadian writer. She has published more than sixty books spanning novels, poetry, short stories, non-fiction, children's literature, and graphic novels, and has been called “one of the sharpest and most imaginative novelists writing in English”. She is one of only four writers to have won the Booker Prize twice: for The Blind Assassin in 2000 and for her 2019 follow-up to The Handmaid's Tale, The Testaments.Margaret was born in Ottawa in November 1939, shortly after the outbreak of World War II, the second of three children to Carl Atwood, an entomologist. During her early life, she would spend the warmer months in the remote forests of northern Quebec and Ontario where her father tracked insect infestations, and the winters in the city (first Ottawa, later Toronto). She didn't attend school for a full year until the age of twelve. Her childhood scribblings – a “novel” about an ant called Annie, a volume of rhyming poems about cats, and a play about a giant – turned into a more serious ambition to become a writer when Margaret was sixteen. After studying English at the University of Toronto, where she began publishing poems in the college magazine, her first novel, The Edible Woman, came out in 1969, following five collections of poetry. Her most famous work, The Handmaid's Tale, was published in 1985 and depicted a dystopian vision of the United States as a patriarchal and totalitarian place called Gilead. Although it was written during the Reagan era, it has become eerily relevant again in the wake of the election of Donald Trump. Margaret lost her life partner, the writer Graeme Gibson, in 2019. She lives in Toronto.DISC ONE: Anchors Aweigh - US Navy Band DISC TWO: Hearts of Stone - The Charms DISC THREE: Offenbach: Les contes d'Hoffmann, Giulietta Act: Barcarolle. When firefighters discovered the body of forty-year-old Terry King inside the charred remains of his Cantonment, Florida home in November 2001, they assumed the man had been asleep when the fire broke out and died as a result. Upon further inspection, investigators found that King hadn't died as a result of the fire, but from severe blunt force trauma to his head. And even more alarming than that was the fact that King's two boys, thirteen-year-old Derek and twelve-year-old Alex, were missing.Having occurred immediately in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Terry King's murder could have easily been one of many tragedies lost in the fog of national trauma and grief; however, when King's killers were arrested and identified in the days that followed, the story was so shocking, and the motive so heartbreaking, that it managed to break through the wall-to-wall coverage of the attacks.
