Chilling Tales for Dark Nights: A Horror Anthology and Scary Stories Series Podcast
In this unforgettable episode of Chilling Tales for Dark Nights, we invite you into a world where survival depends on obedience—and disobedience invites something far worse than death. One man finds himself trapped in a waking nightmare, bound to a set of rules he doesn't remember agreeing to… and stalked by a presence that always seems to know when he's about to slip. Performed by the master of modern horror narration, Jay of Horror on the Rocks, this episode is a haunting descent into isolation, obsession, and the quiet, creeping horror that waits just outside the light. If you've ever felt something watching from the corner of the room—or whispering behind your name—this one's for you. Turn off the lights. Follow the rules. And whatever you do… don't break the last one. Stephen Sol is an indie musician based in Washington, D.C. His music blends classic rock, folk, and indie influences, drawing inspiration from the likes of Mac DeMarco, My Morning Jacket, and The Beatles. His latest single, Eternal Peace, a deeply introspective track that explores life, the beyond, and the serenity that awaits us all.Blending classic rock, folk, and contemporary indie influences, Sol delivers his signature soulful vocals and intricate guitar work, crafting a song that meditates on the unseen forces that guide us. The chorus—“The sound of nothing calls to me, the sound of eternal peace”—resonates as a soothing mantra, embracing the beauty of silence and the vast unknown. Through evocative lyrics like “Now I can breathe, life runs in me, my body feels vibrations, baby, and my spirit is free”, the track channels the essence of a spiritual awakening.“Eternal Peace is about the connection to something greater than ourselves—the timeless energy that binds us all,” says Sol. “I wanted to create a song that feels like a bridge between this world and the next, offering a sense of peace that never fades.”His musical journey began at 14, inspired by his grandfather "Boots," a fan of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. Lately, he's drawn inspiration from Zach Bryan's raw storytelling, especially with a personal connection—his cousin, Read Connolly, plays banjo and pedal steel in Bryan's band. Stephen's recent performance highlights include two sold-out headlining shows at Galactic Panther in August and October 2024. He's also played at SoFar Sounds shows alongside acts such as LB199X and Dreemy Alpha. Looking forward, Stephen is set to release a string of singles, including "Hum of Love," "Toxic," "Águila, "and "Eternal Peace," with his debut album released in 2025.Website stephensol.comwww.youtube.com/@StephenSolmusic

Vietnam Veterans and writers Bruce “Doc” Norton and Harry Kantrovich join us to talk about their new book and stage production, Voices From Vietnam: Interviews, Letters, Vignettes, and Reflections, 1964–1982. This unique conversation will explore their collaborative journey in bringing the Vietnam War's deeply personal stories to life—both on the page and on the stage. Voices From Vietnam is a powerful tribute to those who lived through the Vietnam War, drawing together 67 firsthand accounts from soldiers, Marines, sailors, airmen, nurses, prisoners of war, family members, a Vietnamese refugee, and others whose lives were forever changed by the conflict. Originally envisioned as a stage play, the project evolved into a published book and a moving stage production. Through interviews, letters, poems, and vignettes, Norton and Kantrovich offer a wide-ranging, authentic portrait of the war's human cost and enduring impact. Their stage adaptation premiered in November 2024 at the Journey Theater in Warrenton, Virginia, earning praise for its raw and emotional storytelling. Performed as a series of intimate monologues and readings, the play draws audiences into the lived experiences of those who served, struggled, and sacrificed during one of America's most divisive wars. In this livestream conversation, Doc Norton and Dr. Kantrovich will share behind-the-scenes insights about creating Voices From Vietnam, the process of gathering stories, and the challenges of translating wartime experiences into both written and dramatic form. They will also reflect on their own military careers—Norton's as a Marine Corps Force Recon veteran and historian, and Kantrovich's as a Navy Command Master Chief—and how their service shaped their commitment to honoring the voices of Vietnam. Whether you're a veteran, a student of military history, or simply interested in the personal narratives of war, this is an opportunity to hear directly from two remarkable storytellers and veterans dedicated to preserving memory and truth. We're grateful to UPMC for Life for sponsoring this event!
The main idea is that a carnivore diet can resolve chronic inflammation and health issues that conventional approaches like calorie restriction cannot, as demonstrated by JT's personal experience and experiments.KISMETJT discovered that while on a carnivore diet, he could consume up to 4,500 calories daily without gaining weight, contradicting conventional weight management theories that focus primarily on calorie counts rather than food quality.EPISODE SUMMARYIn this episode, Dr. Philip Ovadia interviews Carnivore JT, a former sports medicine professional and fitness trainer who once firmly believed that weight management was simply about "calories in, calories out." JT shares how his health declined in his thirties despite following conventional dietary advice, then dramatically improved after adopting a carnivore diet. His personal transformation included the elimination of lifelong eczema, psoriasis, acne, and joint pain from previous sports injuries.JT discusses his self-experiments comparing carnivore eating with standard American diet consumption, finding he could eat far more calories on carnivore without weight gain. He addresses how scientific research is often influenced by industry funding, making it difficult for consumers to find unbiased information. The main idea that emerges is that food quality matters more than calorie counting, and a meat-based diet can resolve chronic inflammation issues that conventional approaches cannot address.NOTABLE QUOTE"I had aches and pains since I was in my twenties... And since going carnivore, I feel better than when I was 21. I don't hurt when I get out of bed in the morning, which is pretty remarkable given what I have put my body through over the years."Carnivore JT Contact InfoWebsite: https://theinnercarnivore.com/X: carnivore_jtInstagram: carnivore_jtYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@carnivorejt/featuredSend Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. If there's one thing that intimate relationships do exceptionally well, it's holding up a mirror to who we are. They can be the most beautiful, heart-opening experiences, yet they can also challenge us in ways that nothing else can. And the biggest challenge of all? Staying true to yourself while being deeply connected to someone else. Today on I Love Me The Podcast, we're exploring how to maintain your sense of self inside an intimate relationship. Because real love doesn't mean losing yourself - it means bringing your full, authentic self to the table, every single day. Take a peek at the full episode show notes (and resources I refer to in the show) here: https://gettingnaked.com.au/2025/05/21/ep-57-staying-true-to-yourself-inside-an-intimate-relationship/ About me… My name is Tamra Mercieca and I've been studying and teaching self-love worldwide for 20+ years now. In 2011 I launched my online school Getting Naked where I offer programs to help people strip off the stories and childhood conditioning, so they can fall in love with themselves. While I go by many labels - mumma, wife, tea lover, drummer - professionally I'm known as a Self-Love Therapist, Writer and Women's Pelvic Health Guide, qualified in over a dozen physical and mental health modalities. I'm the author of two books, have been published in dozens of print and online publications, appeared on TV many times, and love to share the teachings of self-love at yoga and spirituality festivals. Personally, my journey began when I worked out how to overcome suicidal depression and anxiety (and get off my meds). I then went on to create a ten-session program where I now help others do the same. The primary idea is that changing your nutrition can heal both physical and mental health issues by removing interferences that block the body's natural ability to heal itself.KISMETWhile many people associate obesity with visible weight gain, Ben shares that although he was clinically obese at 34% body fat, most people wouldn't have recognized him as such due to his height and body type—suggesting that "hidden obesity" may be more common than we realize.EPISODE SUMMARYBen Azadi shares his journey from being obese, depressed, and suicidal to achieving optimal health by changing his nutrition and mindset. He explains how his severe depression lifted as a side effect of improving his physical health. Ben discusses the concept that our bodies have an innate ability to heal if we remove interferences like high insulin levels, seed oils, and environmental toxins. He emphasizes that changing your self-image is crucial for sustainable health improvements, as "you will never outperform your self-image." Ben reveals how insulin resistance develops 6-14 years before blood sugar problems appear, making fasting insulin testing critical for early detection. He also discusses how restaurants are beginning to return to cooking with natural fats instead of seed oils. The conversation highlights how symptoms are simply the body's "check engine light" signaling something needs attention, rather than problems requiring medication to suppress.NOTABLE QUOTE"God built my body and all of our bodies to heal itself. The healthcare system is complex and challenging to navigate, especially for seniors and their caregivers, but preparation and knowledge can help you maintain control, advocate effectively, and achieve better outcomes during healthcare transitions.KISMETWhile most assume senior care facilities and nursing homes operate based on modern nutritional science, many still follow outdated dietary guidelines based on the food pyramid, which may negatively impact metabolic health when seniors need more protein and healthy fats for optimal recovery and function.EPISODE SUMMARYIn this episode, master's prepared nurse Cheryl Field shares insights from her 36 years of experience in senior care. She discusses how understanding the healthcare system can help aging adults maintain control during transitions like emergency room visits and hospital stays. Field explains the critical differences between traditional Medicare and managed care options that seniors must navigate when turning 65. She offers practical advice on preparing for healthcare events, including what to bring to the emergency room and how to approach rehabilitation stays positively. Field emphasizes the importance of advance directives, creating a supportive home environment, and embracing a mindset that accepts assistance when needed. The conversation also explores how improved nutrition and metabolic health can benefit both seniors and their caregivers, potentially reducing medication dependence and improving quality of life.NOTABLE QUOTE"A hundred percent of us will experience a sudden change in health. It's often said that we become like the people we spend the most time with… and in my experience this is true… But it's not just the people - it's everything around us. The books we read. The content we absorb while online. The conversations we engage with. The spaces we work and live in. Our environment is either lifting us up, or holding us back. And the wildest past? Most of us don't even realise it! That's why on today's episode of I Love Me The Podcast, we'll be exploring how you can tweak your environment for success and greater self-love: - How to surround yourself with people who expand you into your potential… - Why your physical space influences your mindset more than you might think… - And how small shifts - like the content you consume and the habits you build - can create massive change in your life. For when you change your environment, you change your reality. Take a peek at the full episode show notes (and resources I refer to in the show) here: https://gettingnaked.com.au/2025/05/14/ep-56-upgrade-your-environment-upgrade-your-life/ About me… My name is Tamra Mercieca and I've been studying and teaching self-love worldwide for 20+ years now. In October 2001, the dismembered remains of seventy-one-year-old Morris Black were found floating in Galveston Bay. A few days later, Black's neighbor, Robert Durst, was arrested on suspicion of murder and released on $250,000 bail. After posting bail, Durst jumped bail and disappeared for six weeks, before being arrested by Pennsylvania authorities at the end of November. In the years that followed, investigators and prosecutors began combing through Durst's life, discovering disturbing connections between the excentric millionaire and the mysterious disappearances and deaths of several people who were once close to Durst. Robert Durst had been a suspect in the murder of Morris Black, but was it possible he was in fact a multiple murderer who'd evaded detection for decades?Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 2001. Courtney Luna's personal transformation from a lifelong yo-yo dieter to a healthier person through a carnivore diet has not only helped her lose 55 pounds but also significantly improved her mental health, allowing her to discontinue anxiety medication.KISMETDespite facing intense criticism online only after removing vegetables from her diet (not when sharing her previous diets), Courtney's carnivore cookbook has found unexpected success among non-carnivore households, where picky eaters are enjoying her meat-centric recipes.EPISODE SUMMARYIn this episode, Dr. Philip Ovadia and Jack Heald talk with Courtney Luna, author of "Carnivore in the Kitchen." Courtney shares her journey from being a yo-yo dieter since age 13 to finding success with a carnivore diet. After trying numerous diets including paleo and keto, she gained 40 pounds in four months when attempting to eat "everything in moderation." Her switch to a carnivore diet led to a 55-pound weight loss, improved mental health, and freedom from anxiety medication. Courtney discusses how she manages this way of eating with her family, teaching her children about nutrition while giving them some freedom with food choices. She explains how her cooking background as a yacht chef helped her create her cookbook, which includes creative recipes using ingredients like pork panko (ground pork rinds) to make everything from chicken nuggets to cinnamon rolls. Courtney also addresses the surprising online backlash she received only after removing vegetables from her diet.NOTABLE QUOTE"For me, food freedom is not mentally obsessing about these foods. 2001. Silas Farley, former New York City Ballet dancer and current Dean of the Colburn School's Trudl Zipper Dance Institute, explores the profound connections between classical ballet, Christian worship, and embodied spirituality. From his early exposure to liturgical dance in a charismatic Lutheran church to his career as a professional dancer and choreographer, Farley illuminates how the physicality of ballet can express deep spiritual truths and serve as an act of worship.Episode Highlights from Silas Farley“The physicality of ballet is cruciform. The dancer stands in a turned-out position... the body becomes the intersection of the vertical and the horizontal plane.”“Sin makes the soul curve in on itself, whereas holiness or wholeness in God opens us up.”“We are Christian humanists. We don't need to be intimidated by beauty.”“There's knowledge and insight in all the different parts of our bodies, not just in our brain.”“The mystery of the incarnation is that when the creator of all things wanted to make himself known to his creation, he didn't come as a vapor or as a mountain or as a bird. But he came as a man.”Resources for Ballet EngagementLocal community ballet companies/schools“B is for Ballet” (ABT children's book)“My Daddy Can Fly” (ABT)Celestial Bodies, by Laura JacobsApollo's Angels, by Jennifer HomansSilas Farley's Podcast: Hear the Dance (NYC Ballet)The Nutcracker (NYC Ballet/Balanchine)Jewels (1967, Balanchine)Agon (Balanchine/Stravinsky)About Silas FarleySilas Farley is a professional ballet dancer and choreographer. Dean of the Trudl Zipper Dance Institute at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, Silas is a former New York City Ballet dancer, choreographer, and educator. He also currently serves as Armstrong Artist in Residence in Ballet in the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University. His work includes choreography for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Houston Ballet, and the New York City Ballet. He hosts the Hear the Dance podcast and creates works that integrate classical ballet with spiritual themes.Silas also serves on the board of The George Balanchine Foundation.Show NotesSilas Farley's Early Dance Background & FormationSilas Farley: Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina; youngest of 7 children (4 brothers, 2 sisters); multiracial family (white father, Black mother)First exposure through charismatic Lutheran church's liturgical dance ministrySaw formal ballet at age 6 when Christian ballet company Ballet Magnifica performedDance initially experienced as form of worship before performanceLiturgical vs Classical BalletLiturgical dance:Amplifies worshipFunctions as embodied prayerNot primarily performativeHistorical examples: David with Ark of Covenant, Miriam after Red Sea crossingClassical ballet:Performed on proscenium stageRequires specific trainingFocuses on virtuosic movementsExplicitly performativeBoth forms serve as offerings/vessels for transmitting energy to audienceTechnical Elements of Ballet: Turnout, Spiritual Turnout, and Opening UpFoundational concept of “turnout”—rotation of feet/hips outward“That idea of turnout makes the body more expressive in a way. Because if our toes are straightforward, like the way we're designed, you only see a certain amount of the leg. Whereas if the body stands turned out, you see the whole inside of the musculature of the leg. It's a more complete revelation of the body.”Creates more complete revelation of body's musculaturePhysicality conveys “spiritual turnout” - openness/receptiveness“Spiritual turnout: that you are open and receptive and generous. And that's embodied in the physicality of ballet.”“So much of what developed as ballet as we know, it happened at the court of Louis the XIV in the 1660-1670s.”“It's not artificial, it's actually supernatural.”Physical & Spiritual Connections in Ballet“Our walk with God is that he's defining us so that we are becoming open. We're open to him. We're open to receive his love. We're open to be vessels of his love. We're open to receiving and exchanging love with other people.”Freedom within the constraints movements and positionsSwan Lake: “They're so free. They're almost like birds. But that's come through a lifestyle of discipline.”“You get a hyper awareness of your own body.”Develops hyper-awareness of bodyLinks to incarnational theology—Christ as God-manFreedom through discipline and submissionMovement vocabulary builds from simple elements (plié, tendu)Plie: Mama and Dada“As a dancer grows up in ballet, the dancer then develops this enormous vocabulary of movement that are all reducible back to the microcosm of the plié and the tendu.”Creates infinite lines suggesting eternityCombines circular power with eternal linesTheological Dimensions of BalletSilas's choreographed interpretation of C.S. Lewis's The Four Loves, as a balletBallet and the Art of Choreography“The music and choreography were like brothers.”“Songs from the Spirit”“The music becomes my map.”Choreographing in silenceThe Role of the Audience and Their ExperienceIdeas to dialogue withA set of ideas to gather together and embodyArvo Part, The Genealogy of Jesus in Luke 3Uniting my heart with JesusI'm never didactic about it.An embodied musical experience“If I say ‘family, friendship, romance, divine love,' you all instantly have associations, beauty, pain, trauma, consolation that are associated with those four loves.”“ I'm not writing a sermon about any of these ideas. I'm choreographing a ballet. I'm assembling these classical steps with this music to create a visceral, embodied musical experience.”The audience: “They come to it with their experiences, their own eyes and ears and their own bodies. And that's enough.”Arvo Part: “Music is white light, and the prism is the soul of the listener.”“The musical ideas are refracted through the hearer.”“The audience is always in my heart and mind.”“I always think of the artwork as an act of hospitality. … I'm just setting the table.”What's Unique about Ballet as a Physical ArtformBeautiful interconnectednessAsking the body to reach to its limits“The Infinite Line” in BalletRadiating out into multiple eternal lines at the same timeConstant reaching in many directions at onceCruciform positioning: intersection of vertical and horizontal planes“The body becomes radiant”Use of “épaulement”—spiraling of body around spine's axisReveals pulse points (neck, wrists) creating vulnerable energy exchange with audienceOpening up the life force of the dancerNo separation between dancer and instrument (“I am the work of art”)Cruciform physicalityContemporary Cultural ContextModern culture increasingly disembodied due to screens/digital media“We live in an increasingly disembodied culture, we are absorbed with screens two dimensional, uh, highly edited and curated, mediated self presentation as opposed to like visceral nitty gritty blood, sweat, tears, good, bad, and ugly of life itself. So we get insulated from the step that makes life what it is.”Education often treats people as “brains on sticks”“The Christian life is a lifestyle of in embodied discipleship to the God man, Jesus Christ. And he's not a brain on a stick. He's the God man. He has a jawbone and he went through puberty and he has wounds like the beautiful hymn. It says, rich wounds, yet visible and beauty glorified. The mystery of the incarnation is that when the creator of all things wanted to make himself known to his creation, he didn't come as a vapor or as a mountain or as a bird, but he came as a man. And so he sublimates and affirms the glory of his creation, the materiality of his creation and the body as the crown of his creation by coming as a man.”Church needs more embodied practicesBallet offers counterpoint to disembodied tendenciesImportance of physical discipline in spiritual formationRomans 12:1 and making our bodies as living sacrificesHow to Experience Ballet“There's nothing you need to know before going to experience ballet. You have a body, you have eyes, you have ears. That's all you need. Just let it wash over you.Let it work on you in its own kind of visceral way, and let that be an entry point to not be intimidated by the, the music, or the wordlessness or the tutu's or the point shoes or whatever. There's so many different stylistic manifestations of ballet. But just go experience it.And if you can, I would really encourage people almost as much or more than watching it go see if like your local YMCA or something has an adult ballet class, or if you're a kid, maybe ask your parents to sign you up to go try a class and just feel what that turned-out physicality feels like in your own body. It's so beautiful. It's very empowering.”Production NotesThis podcast featured Silas Farley and Macie BridgeEdited and Produced by Evan RosaHosted by Evan RosaProduction Assistance by Macie Bridge, Alexa Rollow, Zoë Halaban, Kacie Barrett & Emily BrookfieldA Production of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture at Yale Divinity School https://faith.yale.edu/aboutSupport For the Life of the World podcast by giving to the Yale Center for Faith & Culture: https://faith.yale.edu/give
