When firefighters discovered the body of forty-year-old Terry King inside the charred remains of his Cantonment, Florida home in November 2001, they assumed the man had been asleep when the fire broke out and died as a result. Upon further inspection, investigators found that King hadn't died as a result of the fire, but from severe blunt force trauma to his head. And even more alarming than that was the fact that King's two boys, thirteen-year-old Derek and twelve-year-old Alex, were missing.Having occurred immediately in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Terry King's murder could have easily been one of many tragedies lost in the fog of national trauma and grief; however, when King's killers were arrested and identified in the days that followed, the story was so shocking, and the motive so heartbreaking, that it managed to break through the wall-to-wall coverage of the attacks. A reading of reflections and poems of Saint Symeon taken from various sources and translations including:~ The Book of Mystical Chapters: Meditations on the Soul's Ascent from the Desert Fathers and Other Early Christian Contemplatives, Translated by John Anthony McGuckin~ The Enlightened Heart: An Anthology of Sacred Poetry, by Stephen Mitchell~ The Fire rises in Me - English version by Ivan M. GrangerSaint Symeon the New Theologian (949 -1022 AD) was an Eastern Orthodox monk and poet who was one of the three saints canonized by the Eastern Orthodox Church and given the title of "Theologian." "Theologian" was not applied to Symeon in the modern academic sense of theological study; the title was intended only to recognise someone who spoke from personal experience of the vision of God. One of his principal teachings was that humans could and should experience theoria (literally "contemplation," or direct experience of God).Symeon was born into the Byzantine nobility and given a traditional education. At age fourteen, he met Symeon the Studite, a renowned monk of the Monastery of Stoudios in Constantinople, who convinced him to give his own life to prayer and asceticism under the elder Symeon's guidance. By the time he was thirty, Symeon the New Theologian became the abbot of the Monastery of Saint Mamas, a position he held for twenty-five years. He attracted many monks and clergy with his reputation for sanctity, though his teachings brought him into conflict with church authorities, who would eventually send him into exile. Symeon is recognized as the first Eastern Christian mystic to share his own mystical experiences freely. Some of his writings are included in the Philokalia, a collection of texts by early Christian mystics on contemplative prayer and hesychast teachings. Symeon wrote and spoke frequently about the importance of experiencing directly the grace of God, often talking about his own experiences of God as divine light. Another common subject in his writings was the need of putting oneself under the guidance of a spiritual father. The authority for many of his teachings derived from the traditions of the Desert Fathers, early Christian monks and ascetics. Symeon's writings include Hymns of Divine Love, Ethical Discourses, and The Catechetical Discourses.Photography: George Digalakis ~ The Sound of Silence / georgedigalakisphotography https://www.digalakisphotography.com/Music: "Let My Love Be Heard" by Jake Runestad. The day after Christmas can feel hollow—muddy streets, drooping lights, long return lines, and a nagging sense that the moment slipped through our fingers. Glenn shares in a moving dramatic monologue authored by Doug Brendel about an elderly department store clerk who faces that familiar scene and quietly re-centers what matters. Between a counter stacked with refunds and a chorus of frayed tempers, he serves with patience and prayer, offering a living reminder that the heart of Christmas isn't found in a receipt, a sale tag, or a perfect photo. As the crowd presses in, small stories reveal a larger truth: a Bible traded for a toy, a holiday unraveled by mishaps, and a watch that won't keep time. Then a woman drops a broken nativity on the counter. Piece by piece, the clerk restores the scene—until he finds the Christ child stuck to a price label, hidden under glue. That single image captures the tension of modern Christmas: the sacred buried under the urgent, the essential masked by the marketed. With gentleness, he returns Jesus to the manger, and something shifts. The woman softens. The store quiets, if only for a moment. And a city, through one ordinary act, sees what it has been missing. We reflect on how easily meaning gets displaced by noise and how hope returns when we put Jesus back at the center—of our schedules, our spending, our serving, and our celebrations. This is a story for anyone who's felt the post‑holiday slump, who's wrestled with consumer culture, or who's longing for faith that feels near and real. Walk with Glenn as he recites this tender tale and into a new year with hearts reset on what lasts: love, presence, and the joy that outlives the season. If this resonated, share it with a friend, subscribe for our verse‑by‑verse studies, and leave a review to help others find the message. Send us a textThis Christmas tale isn't just a story; it's a mirror. In The Redemption of Mrs. Scrooge, you'll meet Jade, a mom quietly shaped by fear, control, and scarcity, doing her best to manage life, relationships, and expectations… until grace gently interrupts her story with unexpected generosity and hope. This modern retelling explores what happens when our patterns are exposed, not to shame us, but to free us.Performed as a dramatic reading by my mom, Paula West, this story captures the heart of the Wholehearted Enneagram:How fear shapes our coping strategies,How control can masquerade as wisdom,And how Christ lovingly rewrites our stories with truth, tenderness, and joy.As you listen, I invite you not to analyze, but to notice. What feels familiar. What stirs resistance? What invites release?Because peace isn't found in what you can control…it's found in what you're willing to lay down.RESOURCES FOR YOU: Book a High-Value Clarity Call with Amy Wicks https://www.simplywholehearted.com/callamywicks Not sure about your Enneagram Type? Today, we're unwrapping a topic that feels extra close to my heart this time of year… and no, it's not about what's under the tree. It's all about Christmas Presence—yep, you heard that right… presence, not presents. Because while gifts wrapped up in shiny paper are lovely, the most powerful gift you can offer your loved ones this holiday season isn't something you can buy in a shop or pop in a gift bag. It's you. Your attention. Your presence. That's why today on I Love Me The Podcast, we're going to explore why presence is the ultimate gift—especially for our kids and family—and how you can bring more of it into your holiday season… in a really simple, human, and joyful way. Take a peek at the full episode show notes (and resources I refer to in the show) here: https://gettingnaked.com.au/2025/12/24/84-the-best-gift-to-give-this-christmas-presence-not-presents/ About me… Hi, I'm Tamra Mercieca, a Self-Love Therapist, Women's Pelvic Health Guide, and host of I Love Me The Podcast. For 20+ years I've been teaching people worldwide how to heal depression and anxiety naturally, strengthen pelvic health, and cultivate radical self-love. In 2011, I founded Getting Naked, an online school offering resources and programs that help people strip away limiting beliefs and childhood conditioning so they can feel confident, connected, free in their bodies and able to love and accept themselves unconditionally. Alongside being a mum, wife, tea lover, and drummer, I'm qualified in more than a dozen holistic healing modalities. I've written two books, been published worldwide (print, TV, radio, etc), and often share my passion for self-love, mental health and pelvic wellbeing at yoga and spirituality festivals. My own journey began when I learned how to overcome suicidal depression and anxiety without medication. From that, I created a ten-session self-love therapy program that now helps others do the same. On the podcast, I share personal stories, tools and science-backed down-to-earth practices for emotional healing, women's health, and living with more joy and freedom. It was November of 2016. North Hollywood's El Portal Theatre was visited by a merry cast of talented voice actors, musicians, and audience members. There was chocolate (graciously provided by the delicious El Buen Cacao) and a wintry faerie who, with an audience volunteer, would announce each date to start off the story. We recorded twenty-five short, holiday-themed stories that night and the 2016 Audio Advent Calendar was born. It was too good to hear just once, so we reissued it the following year. And now it's back again, with its cheerful silliness and heartfelt hope! We hope you enjoy it again or anew, as much as we did making it! "O, Christmas Tree" - a simple phrase that packs an emotional punch. Today's episode is by Gale Brennan Jackson, and although it's technically about her childhood Christmas tree, you may see some of your own family and traditions in this very tender story. Performed by Jenny Flack. Please visit LifeLabNotes.com for information about each date's story, its writer and performers, and the musicians who added their magic.
Set to the familiar melody of Jingle Bells, this special version features homeopathy-inspired lyrics, lovingly rewritten and performed by members of the Homeopathy247 community. Noelle loves Christmas ... time with family, delicious food and gifts under the tree! What's not to love? Well, (as Noelle discovers) getting a gift you didn't ask for and didn't want feels pretty bad. Uncomfortable feelings come flooding in when she opens the gift in question. Was she stupid for imagining Christmas could be perfect? She feels so disappointed. Fortunately Shelly knows a thing or two about disappointment and 'bad' gifts - she's even written a song about it. Does getting a gift you didn't want, ruin Christmas? Is there a way to deal with disappointment? What even is a 'bad' gift? Listen to find out.DISCLAIMER: Shelly gets carried away singing about her teeth in the song "full enough cup", but tortoises don't in fact have teeth. Can't blame an ancient tortoise for letting the truth get in the way of a good narrative drive in a song!! Highlights include – cute stings from the coolest toys in town, the frogs participating in a re-enactment of receiving a terrible gift and Shelly saving the day, with her insatiable appetite for performance! Former interventional cardiologist Dr. William Davis left traditional cardiology after his mother died months after a successful angioplasty. What he discovered challenges everything mainstream medicine teaches about heart disease.Standard cholesterol testing is outdated. The real drivers of cardiovascular disease are small LDL particles created by wheat, grains, and sugars, amplified by gut microbiome disruption. Coronary calcium scores predict heart attacks far better than cholesterol levels, yet conventional treatments like statins show zero impact on plaque progression.Dr. Davis reveals how antibiotic overuse has left half the US population with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, driving not just digestive issues but heart disease, obesity, autoimmune conditions, and neurological decline. Eliminating wheat and grains while restoring beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus reuteri can make dangerous particles disappear. He also exposes the dangers of conventional weight loss: calorie restriction causes 25% muscle loss, permanently slowing metabolism and leading to early death despite temporary improvements. His new book Superbody offers an alternative focused on muscle preservation and microbiome restoration. This conversation fundamentally reframes how diet, gut health, and heart disease connect.Contact Info : Dr. William Davis - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drwilliamdavishealth/ Website: williamdavismd.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drwilliamdavis/ Follow Dr. Ovadia: Twitter: @iFixHearts Website: OvadiaHeartHealth.com Metabolic Health Quiz: iFixHearts.com Send Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. Original solo fingerstyle guitar arrangement of Winter Wonderland by Joe McMurray. One of my favorite Christmas tunes, Winter Wonderland was written in 1934 by Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard B. Smith. TABs are available for purchase through my PayPal link at https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/6ZEEQXVEQ7MFA If you are interested in purchasing the TABs, be aware that this arrangement is suitable for players with a intermediate+ skill level. Performed on my treasured 2023 Collings OM2H guitar. My books: Fingerstyle Blues Guitar: An In-Depth Study of the 12-Bar Blues in E Major – Books 1 and 2 are available in paperback or as an eBook through Amazon [https://a.co/d/g7Udsso (Book 1) and https://a.co/d/aDbh4H0 (Book 2)]. The first priority of these books is to quickly get you playing a solo instrumental 12-bar blues, and then to build on it until you can freely improvise or “jam.” You should be up and running by the end of the third chapter, and each following chapter will add icing on the cake. Arranging for Fingerstyle Guitar: go to http://joemcmurray.com/checkout/ to purchase a pdf of my eBook. Sally Mann is a photographer and a New York Times bestselling writer. She is best known for making large-format black and white photographs of the people and places in her immediate surroundings: her children, her husband, and the rural landscape of her home state and the American South. Sally was born in Lexington, Virginia, the youngest of three children to Robert and Elizabeth Munger. Her father was a doctor and gave Sally his old Leica camera to play with. After university, she wanted to be a poet but she spent more than a decade as a commercial photographer while starting a family of her own and exhibiting her work on a small scale. She published her first book of photographs in 1984. That same year, she began taking pictures of her three children for a series called Immediate Family, which brought her both renown as well as infamy for touching on ordinary moments in their daily lives – playing, sleeping, and eating, sometimes while naked – but also speaking to larger themes such as death and cultural perceptions of childhood, rendering familiar subjects “both sublime and disquieting”. In the mid-1990s, she began to move away from the family pictures in favour of photographing the landscape around her. Much of Sally's body of work comes from observing what is closest at hand because, she says, “The things that are close to you are the things that you can photograph the best.” She has explored the identity of the American South, and her relationship with her place of origin, as well as mortality and decay, and the effects of muscular dystrophy on her husband. In her latest book, Art Work, she considers the challenges and pleasures of the creative process. Sally continues to live on the 800-acre family farm near Lexington with her husband Larry and a number of dogs.
