We recorded twenty-five short, holiday-themed stories that night and the 2016 Audio Advent Calendar was born. It was too good to hear just once, so we reissued it the following year. And now it's back again, with its cheerful silliness and heartfelt hope! We hope you enjoy it again or anew, as much as we did making it! "O, Christmas Tree" - a simple phrase that packs an emotional punch. Today's episode is by Gale Brennan Jackson, and although it's technically about her childhood Christmas tree, you may see some of your own family and traditions in this very tender story. Performed by Jenny Flack. Please visit LifeLabNotes.com for information about each date's story, its writer and performers, and the musicians who added their magic.

Well, (as Noelle discovers) getting a gift you didn't ask for and didn't want feels pretty bad. Uncomfortable feelings come flooding in when she opens the gift in question. Was she stupid for imagining Christmas could be perfect? She feels so disappointed. Fortunately Shelly knows a thing or two about disappointment and 'bad' gifts - she's even written a song about it. Former interventional cardiologist Dr. William Davis left traditional cardiology after his mother died months after a successful angioplasty. What he discovered challenges everything mainstream medicine teaches about heart disease.Standard cholesterol testing is outdated. The real drivers of cardiovascular disease are small LDL particles created by wheat, grains, and sugars, amplified by gut microbiome disruption. Coronary calcium scores predict heart attacks far better than cholesterol levels, yet conventional treatments like statins show zero impact on plaque progression.Dr. Davis reveals how antibiotic overuse has left half the US population with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, driving not just digestive issues but heart disease, obesity, autoimmune conditions, and neurological decline. Eliminating wheat and grains while restoring beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus reuteri can make dangerous particles disappear. He also exposes the dangers of conventional weight loss: calorie restriction causes 25% muscle loss, permanently slowing metabolism and leading to early death despite temporary improvements. His new book Superbody offers an alternative focused on muscle preservation and microbiome restoration. This conversation fundamentally reframes how diet, gut health, and heart disease connect.Contact Info : Dr. William Davis - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drwilliamdavishealth/ Website: williamdavismd.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drwilliamdavis/ Follow Dr. Ovadia: Twitter: @iFixHearts Website: OvadiaHeartHealth.com Metabolic Health Quiz: iFixHearts.com Send Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. When was the last time you let yourself dance — like, really dance? Not at a wedding. Not in a class. Just you, barefoot, unfiltered, hips wiggling, shoulders shaking, letting your body speak in its own beautiful language.   In this episode of I Love Me The Podcast, we dive into the wildly underrated magic of movement — how a single song can shift your mood, clear stuck emotion, calm your nervous system, and raise your frequency in minutes.   Because your body wants to heal. It knows how to release, unwind, soften, and realign — and dance is one of its fastest shortcuts. In this episode, we talk about:   How emotions get stored in the body (yes, literally) Why dancing is one of the quickest ways to release that stuck energy What happens to your brain chemistry after just one wild, uninhibited song How dance shifts your vibration and boosts manifestation How to use movement as medicine, clarity, and emotional detox Why dance helps you become more magnetic without trying.   This is your permission slip to dance your way back into your body — one song, one beat, one deep exhale at a time. Press play, my love. Your future self is already swaying.   Take a peek at the full episode show notes (and resources I refer to in the show) here:   https://gettingnaked.com.au/2025/12/17/83-the-5-minute-dance-break-that-could-change-your-life/   About me…   Hi, I'm Tamra Mercieca, a Self-Love Therapist, Women's Pelvic Health Guide, and host of I Love Me The Podcast. For 20+ years I've been teaching people worldwide how to heal depression and anxiety naturally, strengthen pelvic health, and cultivate radical self-love.   In 2011, I founded Getting Naked, an online school offering resources and programs that help people strip away limiting beliefs and childhood conditioning so they can feel confident, connected, free in their bodies and able to love and accept themselves unconditionally.   Alongside being a mum, wife, tea lover, and drummer, I'm qualified in more than a dozen holistic healing modalities. I've written two books, been published worldwide (print, TV, radio, etc), and often share my passion for self-love, mental health and pelvic wellbeing at yoga and spirituality festivals.   My own journey began when I learned how to overcome suicidal depression and anxiety without medication. From that, I created a ten-session self-love therapy program that now helps others do the same.   On the podcast, I share personal stories, tools and science-backed down-to-earth practices for emotional healing, women's health, and living with more joy and freedom. Original solo fingerstyle guitar arrangement of Winter Wonderland by Joe McMurray. One of my favorite Christmas tunes, Winter Wonderland was written in 1934 by Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard B. Smith. TABs are available for purchase through my PayPal link at https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/6ZEEQXVEQ7MFA If you are interested in purchasing the TABs, be aware that this arrangement is suitable for players with a intermediate+ skill level. Performed on my treasured 2023 Collings OM2H guitar. My books: Fingerstyle Blues Guitar: An In-Depth Study of the 12-Bar Blues in E Major – Books 1 and 2 are available in paperback or as an eBook through Amazon [https://a.co/d/g7Udsso (Book 1) and https://a.co/d/aDbh4H0 (Book 2)]. The first priority of these books is to quickly get you playing a solo instrumental 12-bar blues, and then to build on it until you can freely improvise or “jam.” You should be up and running by the end of the third chapter, and each following chapter will add icing on the cake. Arranging for Fingerstyle Guitar: go to http://joemcmurray.com/checkout/ to purchase a pdf of my eBook. Learning to arrange melodies will also help your fingerstyle songwriting and your understanding of the inner workings of fingerstyle guitar. Scott Everson didn't start the largest carnivore conference in the world just to talk about steak. After years battling chronic pelvic pain syndrome, benzodiazepine dependency, and mast cell activation syndrome, he found something more powerful than any protocol: people. In this conversation, Scott shares how social isolation preceded his illness, how carnivore helped him survive when he could only tolerate lion diet basics, and why he believes loneliness increases heart disease risk by 29% – comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes daily. He challenges common assumptions in the health space, from the heavy metals hiding in popular carnivore salts to why some people's cholesterol skyrockets on animal-based diets while others thrive. This isn't another "carnivore cures everything" story. Scott openly discusses the limits of dietary intervention, the individualized nature of metabolic response, and his conviction that true healing requires more than what's on your plate. It demands connection, purpose, and belonging.Dr. Philip Ovadia joins the discussion to explore why doctors rarely prescribe community, what happens when you're 99% carnivore versus 100%, and whether long-term carnivore is optimal or if we should consider reintroducing certain foods. They tackle lipotoxicity, microbiome misconceptions, and the danger of dogmatic thinking in any health movement.Whether you're carnivore-curious, chronically ill, or just tired of feeling alone in your health journey, this conversation cuts through the noise to address what we're really hungry for.Meat Stock Convention: meatstockconvention.com Live Salter Electrolytes: livesalter.com Use code IFIXHEARTS for Dr. Ovadia's new book with your Meat Stock ticket (first 50 attendees)BIG IDEASocial isolation is the root cause of a lot of people's problems – it causes stress, inflammation, gut issues, and a cascade of health problems that no diet alone can fix.Scott Everson Contact Infowebsite: wired4healing.comwebsite: meatstockconvention.comwebsite: LiveSaltr.comProduct Testing: mamavation.comSend Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. It was November of 2016. North Hollywood's El Portal Theatre was visited by a merry cast of talented voice actors, musicians, and audience members. There was chocolate (graciously provided by the delicious El Buen Cacao) and a wintry faerie who, with an audience volunteer, would announce each date to start off the story. If you're Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time, but you wouldn't mind spicing up your Silent Night, you need a brand new holiday vaudeville tune! Performed by Denny Siegel and Brett Bayonne, with Scott Passarella and Gary Grantham on piano and percussion. Sally Mann is a photographer and a New York Times bestselling writer. She is best known for making large-format black and white photographs of the people and places in her immediate surroundings: her children, her husband, and the rural landscape of her home state and the American South. Sally was born in Lexington, Virginia, the youngest of three children to Robert and Elizabeth Munger. Her father was a doctor and gave Sally his old Leica camera to play with. After university, she wanted to be a poet but she spent more than a decade as a commercial photographer while starting a family of her own and exhibiting her work on a small scale. She published her first book of photographs in 1984. That same year, she began taking pictures of her three children for a series called Immediate Family, which brought her both renown as well as infamy for touching on ordinary moments in their daily lives – playing, sleeping, and eating, sometimes while naked – but also speaking to larger themes such as death and cultural perceptions of childhood, rendering familiar subjects “both sublime and disquieting”. In the mid-1990s, she began to move away from the family pictures in favour of photographing the landscape around her. Much of Sally's body of work comes from observing what is closest at hand because, she says, “The things that are close to you are the things that you can photograph the best.” She has explored the identity of the American South, and her relationship with her place of origin, as well as mortality and decay, and the effects of muscular dystrophy on her husband. In her latest book, Art Work, she considers the challenges and pleasures of the creative process. Sally continues to live on the 800-acre family farm near Lexington with her husband Larry and a number of dogs. The Fat Cell Gatekeeper: How One Unknown Hormone Controls Whether You Can Actually Lose Weight - Dr. Jay Wrigley

Your gut contains more bacterial cells than human cells in your entire body. This living ecosystem either works for you or against you, and most people are unknowingly destroying it with every meal. Dr. Jay Wrigley, hormone specialist, breaks down the intricate web connecting gut microbiome health, hormonal responses, and metabolic dysfunction in ways that finally make sense. This conversation cuts through the symptom-chasing approach of conventional medicine to examine root causes. Why does adding iodine sometimes wreck thyroid function instead of helping it? What does sea salt actually contain, and why might vacation at the beach genuinely improve thyroid symptoms? How does the body's stress response literally prevent fat cells from releasing their contents, no matter how perfectly you eat?Dr. Wrigley explains hormone sensitive lipase, the enzyme-hormone that acts as gatekeeper for fat burning, and why most people have never heard of it despite its central role in weight management. He traces the cascade from dietary choices through insulin and cortisol to inflammation and arterial damage, showing how the body's hormonal response to what you eat matters more than the food itself. The discussion covers thyroid conversion problems that standard TSH testing misses entirely, the relationship between progesterone, estrogen and cellular thyroid function, and why the carnivore diet might indicate deeper gut issues rather than being a long-term solution. Learn which simple dietary modifications address iodine status without expensive testing, and how stress management connects directly to your body's willingness to release stored fat. This is functional medicine thinking applied to everyday metabolic problems, explained through the lens of a practitioner who treats hormones as the body's first responders to everything you do, eat, think, and experience.BIG IDEAYour health is much more related to the hormonal response by the choice that you just made than what you ate at all.Dr. Jay Wrigley Contact InfoSocail Media: @HormoneDietDocWebsite: DrJayWrigley.comSend Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. The Death of Cork Miller: Accident or Murder

Morbid

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 17, 2025 68:25

In the early morning hours of October 8, 1964, thirty-four-year-old housewife and mother of three Lucille Miller placed a frantic call to the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department to report that there had been a car accident on remote Banyan Street and her husband had been killed. When deputies arrived at the scene, the car was still in flames and, as Lucille had described, her husband Gordon “Cork” Miller was in the passenger seat, nearly unrecognizable from the extent of the fire damage. The evidence at the scene appeared to support Lucille's version of events; the car had gone off the road while they were driving and caught fire. Lucille managed to get out of the car, but Cork was unconscious and she was unable to get him out. Less than twelve hours later, however, Lucille's story began to fall apart and by the end of the day she was arrested for the murder of her husband. At first, the case against Lucille Miller seemed relatively straightforward; she killed her husband for the insurance money and to pursue a relationship with another man. But as the investigation unfolded and investigators began digging into the Miller's lives, the story became significantly more complicated and no one seemed able to decide whether Cork's death was in fact a murder.Want to buy our GORGEOUS Tarot Deck designed by the incredibly talented Marisa Aragón Ware?
