Kai Hagen was elected to the Frederick County Council (At-Large) in 2018. Previously, he was elected to Frederick County Board of County Commissioners in 2006, where he served through 2010. Kai and his wife, Kirsten, have two sons, Tor, 27, and Leif, 22. After growing up in Washington DC, Kai left the area to attend St. Olaf College in Minnesota, returning east after a dozen years there and eight more in California. For most of that time, he worked with a number of environmental organizations. The family moved to the City of Frederick in 1995, and then to northern Frederick County in 2000. Since they first settled in Frederick County, Kai has been highly engaged in the community.  For the last eight years, he has served as the Director of Envision Frederick County, a non-profit organization founded on the principle that informed public discourse and active engagement of individuals and groups in our civic life are essential to our mutual well-being and prosperity.
