A Fulton County Judge has delayed his order requiring Fulton County to pay $10,000 a day until two Republican nominees are appointed to the Fulton County Board of Elections. Senior Superior Court Judge David Emerson is now allowing the county to appeal. This is a story that has been developing for months. Rose talks with Fulton County Commissioners Mo Ivory and Dana Barrett, who are both being held in contempt by the court over this matter, after refusing to confirm Republican backed nominees Julie Adams and Jason Frazier. Plus, the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund is now accepting applications for its Preserving Black Churches grant program. Executive director Brent Leggs talks about the $60 million national initiative dedicated to uplifting historically Black churches and the communities that preserve them. Lastly, a newly launched initiative will eliminate $10 million in debt for families across metro Atlanta. The initiative, helping 3,500 households, is part of a partnership between the Atlanta Dream and Cash App and ForgiveCo. (The Center Square) – Building in Spokane County could become much more expensive soon, as local officials consider hiking several permitting fees for the first time in years, some by more than 1,500%. Spokane County Public Works charges a variety of fees to cover its costs, but many of those have sat stagnant for over a decade. On this episode, Feliks Banel speaks once again with Lewis County Commissioner Lindsey Pollock about the process to find a buyer, via sealed bid auction, for Claquato Church - a process which Lewis County now all but admits is tilted toward the private, non-profit Claquato Cemetery. The cemetery has had months (or perhaps even years) to ready a proposal, while other potential buyers only learned of the opportunity on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 and have until July 31, 2025 to prepare and submit something. At one point in this interview, Feliks Banel says to Commissioner Pollock, "It seems like that opportunity [of bidding on Claquato Church] should have been offered to everybody in the same time frame, with the same amount of time to prepare a decent proposal." To this statement, Commissioner Pollock responds: "I would agree with that." The Claquato Church in Lewis County, Washington was built in 1858 and is one of the oldest structures in the Evergreen State. Lewis County Commissioners approved a plan on July 15, 2025 to auction it off as surplus property; the deadline for bids is July 31, 2025. Criteria for the winning bid is described as "highest and best" - as far as who can guarantee preservation of the building - but the process and the way it's described in official documents strikes some as a little unclear. Guevara, a Gwinnett resident, was later taken into ICE custody but granted bail. Confusion arose as DeKalb’s Solicitor’s Office handled and dropped charges, while Gwinnett’s Sheriff’s Office announced unrelated charges from May, which have yet to be entered into the court system or served. Guevara was held at ICE’s Folkston detention center. The Utah County Commission is months into an attempt with the U.S Forest Service to swap some land. The move comes as the Commission is looking to update and make improvements in Bridal Veil Falls. A public hearing took place on Wednesday to address the issue. We speak to Utah County Commissioner, Amelia Powers Gardner about this swap and what happens next.

More than half of all counties in Oregon are facing budget shortfalls and cuts to programs and services. In Washington County, officials are proposing more than $25 million in reductions to the $2 billion budget that would include eliminating jobs and services. In Coos County, the sheriff’s department released some of those serving time in its jail last year. In 2024, county voters turned down two different tax levies to fund government services. Even after making cuts, Coos County still faces a gap of about $1.8 million. John Sweet is one of the three commissioners that govern Coos County. Kathryn Harrington is the chair of the Washington County Commission. They both join us to share more about the budget challenges and how they’re thinking about potential cuts to programs and services for their residents.

While state officials and legislators have positioned Texas to be “the bitcoin mining capital of the world,” in small towns like Granbury, working-class residents living next to giant, loud, environmentally destructive data centers are the ones paying the price for Texas's crypto boom. “None of us are sleeping,” Cheryl Shadden, a Granbury resident who lives across the street from a 300-megawatt bitcoin mining data center owned by Marathon Digital, tells TRNN. “We can't get rid of this alien invasion in our homes…This is like being a prisoner of war. It's like being tortured with loud sounds and bright lights and being sleep deprived.”In this episode of Working People, we dive deeper into the reality of living next to crypto mining data centers like the one in Granbury, the unseen threats they pose to human and nonhuman life, and what residents in Granbury are doing to fight back.
