A kid…in a costume. It had to be. Still, it was frightening. To think I almost hit the poor little guy. Maybe it was a good thing that the costume was so good, so convincing. The sickly yellow glow-in-the-dark contacts. The pro-quality fang fixtures. That tail that almost looked as if it were whipping back and forth on its own. I thought it was some animal I'd almost hit. That would have been bad enough. If I'd known it was a kid, I might have panicked and lost control of the car. Maybe I would have hit him. A homeowner is haunted and harassed by sightings of a demonic little creature. If you have spent a good chunk of your life studying and working like a robot, how would you know to wake up one day, and say “I am not a robot!” That’s Kou Aizhe’s story. A former librarian and TV journalist, he was inspired by "This American Life" podcast to create his own show “Gushi FM.” The idea is to give voice to real people with real-life experiences and struggles. It’s now one of the most popular podcasts in China since it was launched in 2017, reaching 600,000 listeners and counting. “Leaving a robotic life to create my own show” is about his thinking at various turning points and crossroads. The gate swung open with a high wail. Razim swapped curious looks with Sidregar. They paced into the city, scanning the streets for an open inn. The streets were empty. We called them the Gildenfaere. The golden horse-birds. Once there were thousands upon the earth and in the skies. On the earth they galloped and in the skies they soared. And always they were wild. It's round two for everyone's favorite (only?) Geatish hero, as he bravely takes on...his former adversary's mother. Really, it's way more interesting than it sounds. Also she's not Angelina Jolie, but a terrifying, demonic swamp hag. The creature this week is so cute you won't even mind that it watches you sleep.
