Protests have spread across the United States over the last few weeks. The protestors have been registering their feelings about incidents where police have shot and killed black men. High profile recent incidents resulted in the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castle, and the protestors feel that minorities are being disproportionately targeted by the police. On top of this, at a recent protest in Dallas a gunman shot and killed five police officers. But what can the numbers tell us about the issue? How many people do police officers kill each year in the USA? And how many police officers are killed? Tim Harford investigates. Producers: Charlotte McDonald, Elizabeth Cassin

Hello babies! First things first: please donate to the families of Alton Sterling and Philando Castle if you can spare it. Links provided below: We have a lot of fun on this episode regardless of how insanely sad this week has been. I promise! Lisa is back from her book tour (Go buy her new book Hot Dog Taste Test!) and she has some kooky tales from her adventures. On Chunch Chat, we talk about how difficult it is keeping up with celeb horse news. There has to be a better way! Will somebody please create a site that aggregates all the horsey hearsay on the web? In Wiki of the Week, we dive into the German children’s book/collection of cautionary tales Struwwelpeter. Baron Vaughn joins us to teach us how to properly use ayahuasca. Timeless style icon Gary Saint Garie stops by to educate us on his involvement in the creation of fashion. It has been a really intense week here in America. From Alton Sterling and Philando Castle to the 5 police officers in Dallas-this week has been seemingly consumed with death. If there has been one thing that is shared among Americans, it's grief. On Episode 39 co-hosts Tesi and Leslie welcome one of their other sisters-in-law, Kait Klipsch. Because of Kait's unique outlook on life and their shared interests the sisters talked for more than 2 hours. In today's Part 1 the sisters deep dive into Kait's extensive experience in living and working in other countries. The women talk about how traveling for Kait, whether it be across the world to Sri Lanka or across the city to the south side of Chicago, opened her eyes to a new reality. One that wasn't even close to her experience as a white, upper-middle class woman. For more information on Part 1 of the series exploring privilege, go to our website.
On the latest show of Laughing with Cancer we talk about the craziness going on in the world with all the shootings and would like to give our condolences to the families of the five officers that were shot in Dallas. Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael Smith, Brent Thompson and Patrick Zamarripa. I would also like to give my condolences to the families of Philando Castle of Minnesota and Alton Sterling of Baton Rouge Louisiana who were both gunned down by police officers. And speaking of craziness lets not forget about the candidates running for president, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The crazy train is coming and I think they're both on board. "Life after Cancer" Everything you're feeling right now is normal for cancer survivors. Recovering from cancer treatment isn't just about your body-it's also about healing your mind. I also would like to give a shout out to my brother Rick Goeden (Lips) my concert buddy. PEACE!LOVE! and stay laughing
This week we interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to give you our opinions of the latest state of affairs between the police state and civilians of the United States of America. We are no longer taking a passive stance on this subject, as we believe that the police force are over using their power. Yet we don't believe that violent acts in retaliation is the key. We discuss a few different perspectives that have been going viral since these few police murders, as well as our own. Please let us know what you think on our social media, and we'll be sure to continue the conversation from there. Thank you again for tuning in, and we'll be back with our regular programming next week!
