This last week has been incredible for me. After almost 5 years of being connected to different aspects of the work at the farm in La Junquera, first through my connection with Silvia Quarta the leader of Camp Altiplano, the first in the global Ecosystem Restoration Communities network back when I worked at the restoration coordinator, then through collaborations with Alfonzo and Yanniek through the Climate farming community, and also with their incredible staff of Clara, Jeronimo, and Jacobo in coordination and organizing, I was finally able to visit them in person. In the first few days we did some course planning and taught a two day intensive on water resource management for farmers. I stayed a few days to talk about their new collective project to restore the watershed of the Quipar river, and then represented Climate Farmers in a Benchmarks soil health program. It has been surreal to meet the heroes who are working tirelessly to pioneer regenerative management in their semi arid location and to build friendships that go far beyond the occasional zoom call. That brings me to our interview today with Silvia Quarta.

There's assuredly a good newsletter post in this, but too bad, because the ol' brain is rattled by being reminded that Edgardo Alfonzo played 12 games for the 2006 Blue Jays (after he'd already been released that year by the Angels)… and after three weeks, got released from Toronto. Fonzie then went to Bridgeport, had his contract purchased by the Mets… and never made it back to Queens, playing 42 games for Triple-A Norfolk. The way Alfonzo went after that? He played for the 2007 and 2008 Long Island Ducks, the 2008 Tigres de Quintana Roo, the 2009 Yomiuri Giants, and finally the Newark Bears in their last season, 2010 — a team managed by Tim Raines that included Elijah Dukes, Carl Everett, Nook Logan, Scott Spiezio, and Daryle Ward. And they had Armando Benitez striking out 52 hitters in 34.2 innings for the best K/9 rate in the Atlantic League. How the heck did that team finish in last place? This is a public episode. Today on the podcast I am talking to Alfonzo. Mapper for a wide variety of community projects such as Doom the Way Id Did 1 & 2, Abyssal Speedmapping Sessions, and more, provider of midis to Mutiny and the Alfonzone and the host of Doom Radio, the Doom podcast that started it all. We discuss Alfonzo's early wad reviewing days, single player and multiplayer mapping, his process for midi making, and of course, Doom Radio.
Alfonzo is one of my favorite content creators, but that title doesn't give him the credit of the power of what he gets out on his platforms. He is very talented, funny, faithful, and smart on how to un-weave the narratives out of politics and show them for what they are... diversions from the truth. This interview is sure to please and shines some light on some topics to talk about them in a very unique way. And while there is a doughnut story, everything cirlces back to faith, funny, and politics just like a doughnut.
Leticia says her husband is a cheater after finding evidence in his car. Alfonzo says he's made mistakes in the past but desperately wants to save his marriage.

Hi #smartcommunity friends! In this episode of the Smart Community Podcast I have a very interesting conversation with Dr. Mariela Alfonzo. Mariela is the Founder and CEO of State of Place, an AI-driven, urban design data and predictive analytics software that helps citymakers create more thriving communities more effectively, cost-efficiently, and inclusively. Mariela then tells us how she began her startup, State of Place, a bit about what they do, and the range of clients Mariela works with. Mariela then shares with us a use case where her work has made a real impact and she explains how the built environment is actually formed in the world from a cultural context. We finish our chat discussing the emerging trends of addressing the issue of equality and how our environments can predetermine how well we live.
